The 3rd generation Apple TV launched in March of 2012 and supports 1080p video. Thanks to a recent software update, it also now supported Bluetooth keyboards. Other than that, it's very similar to the 2nd Generation Apple TV, which launched in September of 2010 and supported only 720p video.

The tiny box packs a wallop, however, with easy HDMI connectivity for your living room LCD or Plasma HD TV, and super simple, rent-only access to the iTunes Store, streaming-only access to your home iTunes library, and Internet access to podcasts, YouTube, Netflix, and other "channels" including news and sports like MLB. With AirPlay you can also stream media and mirror the screen right from your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad!

Best Buy online survey asks customers for feedback on a potential Apple HDTV

Best Buy is currently running an online survey asking for its customers views on a potential Apple HDTV. The survey suggests that the Apple TV could be available as a 42” 1080p LED Flat Panel set that will run iOS applications, stream movies and deliver other entertainment programs from the internet. The cost could be as much as $1499.00.

Fullscreen app demonstrated on the Apple TV [Jailbreak]

 

Following the hack that allows fullscreen apps to run on the Apple TV, developer Jack Perry, known as @Jackoplane on Twitter, decided to try porting his own apps to the bigger screen.

A quick preview of Frequencies for AppleTV... Waiting for @stroughtonsmith to test it on a real device.

The tweet was followed up by Steven Troughton-Smith showing the app running at full 720p on an actual Apple TV.

Rumor: 50-inch Apple television already in Jonathan Ive's design lab

USA Today, based on sources who have previously worked at Apple, is contributing some more information to the increasingly large Apple Television rumor pile.

Apple is said to be looking at a 42-inch or larger LCD TV with built-in Wi-Fi. Inside the locked-down studio of Jonathan Ive, senior vice president of industrial design at Apple, there's a slick 50-inch TV, according to the source who worked at Apple.

A5 chip in AppleTV! Wow, just wow! My mid-2012 AppleTV is fast and reliable as it is. Why would it need anymore power than that??? (the billion dollar question)
