waste of time.
I will personally be downloading all the Beatles MP3's from Amazon just because of the way Apple did this, and I am not even a big Beatles fan. I think this is self-serving hype over nothing, Apple's ego is now in the same realm as Kanye West. Most people have either ripped their CD's into their iTunes by now, or gotten the MP3's by other means.
Agreed
would be more interesting to see who was going to buy said new music......
This is hilarious if you ask me. The media and fans overhyped this "event."
WTF?! That's it? I want 5 minutes of my life back!
Good luck with that, Bob. If you could get the Beatles' mp3's from Amazon it wouldn't be a big deal. iTunes is the ONLY place you can purchase digital Beatles music. This is why it's such a big deal.
"Most people" have purchased their cd's...not most people in the age bracket (the majority of the population) that listened to the Beatles live - and own all their vinyl. We have been waiting for this day. Of course, Steve Jobs is one of us - a baby boomer who grew up listening to the Beatles.
I'm finally going to replace my vinyl. Hallelujah!
Oh yea, and I just bought Rubber Soul, my personal favorite.
WTF?!?!?!
For the love of God and all that is holy just GIVE ME 4.2!!!!
I think everybody that likes Beatles has all their musics in mp3 files already.
Bs
Yoko must be low on dough. Either that or her contract with the devil expired...
Over-hyped, over-blown waste of time. Nice marketing campaign - pretty much reaffirms why I get my music elsewhere than from iTunes.
Talk about underwhelming...
Ringo's quote makes me sooo happy.
Tune in for next week's surprise!
Steve Jobs gets a haircut! Oooooo! Ahhhhhh!
Im new to all this apple stuff, but I must say this has to be one the WORST announcements they have ever made. You should be working on getting out IOS 4.2. I wasn't even born when the BEETLES where even relevant so why would I care. COME ON APPLE!!!!!
Pretty underwhelming.
that was the WORST APPLE release EVER!!!!! WTF do i care about the beatles? is it really that big a deal? NO! i am going to restore and rejailbreak my phone cause apple doesn't like it!
APPLE Today = many NOT happy!
I wasted part of my brain being excited all day yesterday and today only to be disappointed by an announcement of iTunes serving the music of a 40 year old band that everyone already has thier records, tapes, and CDs anyways.
Glad I didn't waste my time with this. If you love the Beatles that much then you should already have their music.
LEGENDARY fail
Epic fail!
i never knew ill hate Steve Jobs for 5 minutes!
Why wouldn't Apple hype this? This fills a huge hole in their iTunes lineup, and is certainly worth an announcement. It's not like they strung us along waiting for weeks and weeks, it was a 24 hours thing. Quite appropriate if you ask me.
seriously interested on the haircut news tho... could this be a weekly feature ?
@Alli I am not a baby boomer, but my father is (went to Woodstock and everything). He agreed that this is bull too. Why rebuy something that you could already own, in better quality? Amazon has the entire box set on CD for $154. $4 more for far better audio quality? Sounds good to me (pun intended). Afaik, iTunes doesn't do wav/lossless downloads, but Amazon has the physical media.
I am not disputing the value of this for people who don't want/don't have the CD's, I am disputing and disgusted by the way Apple hyped this. Adding to it by making the whole front page of the Music Store in iTunes 100% Beatles.
Steve Jobs = Douche Bag
Always loved apple products and announcements but this is Major FAIL
I don't think this is even important enough to be the "one more thing" in a typical Steve Jobs presentation. It's a great follow up to the massive wave of public euphoria for Ping, though. lol.
You have to be s**ting me... The "Big News" from iTunes was The Beatles finally coming to iTunes... Really?.. That's the big news?.. Why on earth would that be "big news"? If you were a true Beatles fan you'd already have all of their CDs, records, 8-tracks and tapes and it would matter if there was downloadable content via iTunes. That was a complete waste of excitement ha ha.
wouldn't matter not would ha ha... Sorry about that.
I mean it is no doubt that this is a very momentous occasion just because of the way the Beatles have shaped music since their existence. Now everyone has access to the tunes that might defines themselves or the current music that they listen to now.
Personally, I don't like the Beatles (except for the iconic songs, Blackbird and stuff) but the part that I appreciate the most is the front page. Its a really dope picture, the simplicity of it really defines the essence of the fusion between Apple and the Beatles.
But i do agree that if you like the Beatles, then they exist in your itunes library already (heck, I have every song they ever made and I only like about 5 in total). This is what happens when you are a media junkie and you have a few huge hard drives, lol.
reality distortion failed
next week isnt gonna be steve jobs' haircut event, it will be, get this
a day.. unlike any other day.. a day which changes history... steve jobs doesnt wear a turtle neck.
Although I couldn't really care less... of the the 64 tracks on the blue and red albums, I will admit that I know at least 54 of the songs. That is pretty amazing when I wasn't even born for another 10 years after they'd split.
WOW I cant believe how all of you are reacting! GET A LIFE! It was an announcement..did this really ruin your day?! LMAO at all of you fools that are so mad. Its a BIG deal for Apple hence the BIG announcement....get a clue people
iTunes needs more than Beatles IMO. http://canadu.posterous.com/going-for-broke-itunes-needs-more-than-beatle
I'm happy for the 100 people or so out there in the world that actually care I guess...
You people are so affected
If your dream in life is world domination great knock yourself out! Steve Jobs has had a few dreams, Would you agree? I would and I am thankful for them, they make my life easier.
So what .... Steve wanted to have the Beatles in his store, bravo to Steve! Oh and to the Sell out comment we have all sold out.
Really!? Who give a rats A$$ about the Beatles!
Obvious generation gap here on what's unique and meaningful. The Beatles were one of the best bands of the previous generation and whether or not you like them you should respect their movement. Digital rights is a big deal
By Apple's standards, there was very little hype, just a cryptic home page takeover, and a short dog-and-pony-show announcement. No event, no sustained media splash. Marco Arment speculates that perhaps this level or promotion was a requirement or carrot to the get the Beatles to commit. In any case, given the proven, durable revenue stream the Beatles catalog will provide Apple if customers are aware of it, Apple played it about right. It was the legions of Apple fans who quiver with excitement every time Apple.com shows a maintenance sign who turned this into something more.
Perhaps there is a lesson for Apple in all the wounded fanbois today, that customer expectations have officially run amok, and that they should never change the Apple.com front page for anything short of an iPad that slices, dices, and makes a tasty dessert topping.
I think the bigger news here is that people still buy music.
BFD. If this was meant to appease the masses because 4.2 has been pushed back to 2011, I don't think it worked Steve.
People say it was "us", not Apple, that over hyped this. But Apple should have said, tomorrow something cool is coming to iTunes, not, this day will forever be remembered as Beatles day.
Happy. I have the LPs, but have held off buying the CDs expecting them to be released in a digital format. On the iTunes Beatles page, there is also a video of their first US show, well worth checking out.
I thought it was lame to hype up the Beatles... but then again good for Apple for praying on all the bloggers hopes and dreams - its not Apples fault things went viral. Also, the majority of people are consumers, not tech nerds... so while we'd all love for Apple to cater to the nerds its really good business to cater to their biggest customer base. Let Google and Android cater to the uber nerds that never see the light of day.
I would have liked to see iTunes in the cloud or something like that.. maybe soon... but I'd think that kind of event would be presented by Jobs himself, not on a web site.
Windows 7 has "The Cloud" commercials. Apple came out with the worst hype of the century with this crap. I was really hoping for a cloud, or some great tech update, but no dumb, and dummer just got plain stupid. As you can see from the votes, we are non to happy. Wonder how much money was paid out for the Beatles? I thought nothing could be worse than "The Trunk" hype from Evernote. I was wrong. What a waste of time.
P.S. 4.2 will be here soon enough.. nobody promised a date, so don't get your panties in a bunch.
they spelt beetles wrong...
Compared to most Apple hype this was nothing. It was the tech blogs and commenters that over-hyped this thing. Did people really think that Apple would announce cloud iTunes like that and not as part of a media event? Really? From the reaction you'd think Jobs shot kittens in the head. I don't get the hate, other than it's apparently cool to hate on Apple these days.
Here is the problem, apple didn't even make that big of deal out of the release. The media is responsible for making this into more then what it was intended to be. So the group of people who are pissed off should know better by now, something as big as a iTunes cloud release, or something of that nature, will obv be incorporated into a keynote.
@freddy kruger You think it's spelled "Beetles"..?
@Glenn
Dumb and Dumber....got it? LOL
Yawn
I think one thing that is lost in all of this is that these are the remastered releases. If you don't have a copy of an album from last fall then you do not have this music. I personally will not buy any beatles until the remastered vinyl comes out, I already have the remastered box set in digital from last September.
Well maybe since that's out of the way they can get some of the other artist they have left of iTunes ( AC/DC ), and I can quit hearing about how the Beatles are not on iTunes.
I think many expected to much. (and they always expect too much when it comes to Apple announcements) on the blog, where were multiple comments on how Apple only caters to the "young people". You want to tell that to my 66 year old aunt who owns a macbook? Apple carters to ALL generations, not just spoiled 13 year old boys and girls.
Just remember kids. Look at whos running Apple. Yes, its STEVE JOBS. Not you, not me. Not Antoine Dodson and not Mel Gibson (we know how that would be) but Steve Jobs. He's been tring for years to get the beatles on iTunes, and remember, before today there was no way to get The Beatles digitally. You keep telling people to rip and such. Thats not how a business works. You can be a fan of something and stil not own everything about them.
I'm 20, but I never got in to todays kind of music. (seriously, whats the point of them? They have no meaning. Songs are ment to have meaning!) I do like the beatles and may be downloading some of their songs.
Kind of a big deal for the older generation and of coarse apple and iTunes to bridge the gap , I think iTunes is most utilized from the younger, my mother and father don't even know what iTunes is??? Crap they are still hitting Walmart looking for cassettes. Apple is targeting the older generation and that would mean more$$$$ for them. (Sorry about typos)
@fidelio, where did I come up with dummer? Spell check thinks it's ok. Go figure. Maybe I should have said dim, and dimmer. Do not get me wrong. The Beatles are great. Right place, right time in 1964, but the hype now, guess I was wanting more on the technological side.
What's even more hysterical than this news is that TWSJ was correct.
@Ken. Cassettes? He'll, I'm still looking for 8-tracks.
He'll = hell
The problem is that most people actually wanted something this morning, be it cloud service, a new device, but something. Sure the Beatles news made a few people happy, but the majority don't really care. It was like getting a sweater on Christmas when you were a kid. Sure some people LOVE sweaters, but most of us wanted a shiny new bike...
I'm happy for apple that means they are one step closer to world domination and one step closer to all of us wearing black turtle necks with jeans our whole lives (=
Like any Beatles fan hasn't already copied them into iTunes years ago from their CD's. And Freddy K., you make me sad.
All I can hear coming through most of the comments is
"I, Me, Mine, I, Me, Mine, I, Me, Mine"
I voted, "Totally justified the Hype" because it did.
It's not like they called a press conference, had a keynote, and invited journalists to Cupertino. They simply splashed the main page on their website.
Seems like all the "hype" was created by everyone else. If you don't think they lived up to the hype, then stop reading into everything so much. That hype was user generated, not Apple generated.
I was disappointed in this. I had a bad feeling about it when so many sites were saying this would be about the Beatles. I have nothing against the Beatles, but I'm not a fan. I'm happy for the Beatles fans that this matters to.
wow its magical and revolutionary. yeah right. what a let down.
Wow...if you expect miracles from Steve every time he's about to say something the hype is really in your head. You have the right to scream that you don't care or the right to remain silent.
how about adding another option up there? name it LAME! The Beatles are not from my generation and just because people like The Beatles so much doesn't mean that everytime I say I don't like the music, people have a heart attack. I just don't think it's fair that just because Steve Jobs likes the Beatles, they make it hyped up so much. (For thos of you saying it wasn't hyped, it WAS!. They freaking made ads for it, that's so lame. yeah promote a band from the 60's just because Jobs likes it. It's not even worth the splash page on Apple.com. They made it sound as if it was the biggest thing in the world. They put so much detail into the splash page announcing that it would be a day we would never forget, guess what Jobs? Nobody cares! instead of spending so much time on crappy marketing ploys to rob people, how about you get a move on iOS 4.2 and the 2nd gen iPad and THINGS THAT ACTUALLY MATTER! Geez, got me so angry. Apple is quickly becoming one of those companies that cries wolf until no one pays attention to anything anymore. It's only a matter of time!
My vote is Other: Glad I didn't wake up early for this.
@ K
No, YOU felt that way. YOU made it sound bigger then it actually was. The world does not revolve around you K.
God, people are so damn selfish here.
@Chris, Most people felt that way. Check out every blog and news site on the net. Most people feel let down because very few people care about the Beatles on iTunes. Its great for the small handful of people that both are a fan of the Beatles and dont have digital copies of their music, but for the rest of us that are waiting for things like cloud service, we are annoyed. Rightfully so.
Like no one had Beatles songs already. I have the complete discography in my pocket since I bought my first iPhone.
Farbod21, thats because most of thsoe sites are filled with kids and such.Like Jobs said "Don't believe everything you read"
Apple NEVER comfirmed there will be cloud, and frankly you DON'T NEED cloud service at the moment. (its just one of those things you kids think is "cool" because you don't put your brains to work and think, what would the FUNCTIONALITY be of this service.
Only positive out of this announcement: Not having to put up with Beatles on iTunes rumours anymore! There are still some blaring omissions from iTunes still. AC/DC comes to mind. The band HATE online music.
@Chris Condescending much? First of all, Im not a kid. I do have real FUNCTIONALITY in mind for cloud service, as my media library is way too large to fit on any current iPad/iPhone. Just check out the results of the TiPb poll: 17% care, while 50%+ are actually angry. So apart from name calling you havent added anything to the conversation. Please stop telling us what we NEED or DONT NEED. Thanks.
Most of the musicians that aren't on iTunes have one major complaint, that they can't put their music on as album only purchases. A lot of artists like Tool feel that their albums are put together in a certain way where purchasing individual songs greatly diminishes their work. I don't see why Apple won't give them that option...
Farbod21 you need to remember that Stewve Jobs runs Apple. NOT YOU. You need to cut the attitude. No one is liking it.
anmd I find those who get offended by someone calling them a kid, are kids themselves.
Most of these kids just want clooud service because "all other cloud services suck. This will would be cool because it has a shinny apple logo on it man!"
Just give it up kid,.
@Chris Huh? Who said I run Apple? They made a decision and as a consumer I dont like that decision and I am making my opinion heard. Because you dont like that opinion you call it childish and selfish, which is a tad ironic...
BTW, people want an integrated cloud service not for a "shiny logo", but so they dont have to run independent servers on their computer and so that you don't have to use their own upload stream.
You can make a point without being disrespectful. Give it a try sometime...
Do you people really think that Apple played it up all that much? It's not like there was a press conference or anything, just posted it on THEIR website and on THEIR application. Not like they sent out invitations or posted it weeks before, it was a day before post. I don't really care about the Beatles but it's good to see that they have finally been added to the biggest online music retailer in the world.
I think apple did use its teaser to make too much attention for something so tiny. i mean come on. I could just buy it off amazon. I mean, sure they said for itunes. But having cloud WOULD be a day we wouldn't forget. I think Steve Jobs is overreacting with this one because he is of that generation but the buyers of apples products ARE NOT from that generation. They are the kids and college kids with ipod touchs and macbooks for school. Its plain pathetic what Jobs did this time. AND, apple doesn't have STUPID announcements... well... I guess they have now officially had their first stupid unnecessary announcement.
hum... it looks like only 16% are actually happy :P lol, I guess the other 74% hated apple for their pathetic announcement. :P
This is a huge achievement for both Apple and Steve Jobs, but I already showed the Beatles my support last September when the Beatles remasters came out on 09/09/09. It's been on my iPod ever since, in digital form. So, to me, it's not THAT big of an announcement...
@K, a perfect reply from an obvious Ke$ha fan. Put your earbuds back in and keep filling your head with meaningless crap music.
Don't bother me until
AC/DC is on iTunes....
The Beatles in iTunes is definitely a big deal and certainly welcome, but "another day that I'll never forget"? Not so much. Apple has themselves to blame for the overhype, not the media. "Another day that you'll never forget" may be true for a select few mega Beatles fans, but certainly not for the vast majority of people. They could have gone with something like "a day we've long awaited". But in the end, Apple is right - I will never forget this day because it was way overhyped by Apple, even by their own standards.
Is it just me that I can't see the poll results on my iPhone or do others have the same problem...
Is it just me that I can’t see the poll results on my iPhone or do others have the same problem…
I am totally with SJ on this. It's a generational thing. Like a joke you're not privy to, you had to be there. It is very groovy. It means something big. F*** the naysayers.
As if we didn't already rip all of the Beatles stuff back in the Pirate Days earlier this decade. Arrrgg!! Day late and a $1.29 short.
This is such big news for all iTunes owners over 90 years old!
Damned hippies.
When I see evidence at how dumb society is it makes me want to not be apart of it. Maybe it is just this blog though. I need a new blog related to iPhone I think.
