Best MagSafe car mounts in 2024: drive and charge

Snap up one of the best MagSafe car mounts and you won't have to worry if your car isn't equipped with CarPlay

Having an iPhone strapped to your dashboard is extremely useful, letting you use Apple Maps, answer calls and texts hands-free, and change your playlist on Apple Music. A MagSafe car mount keeps your phone securely in place, so you don't have to watch your beloved iPhone tumble to the floor upon taking a sharp corner. Some will even allow you to change your phone, using the wireless charging coils on the back of your phone.

MagSafe, Apple's magnetic wireless charging standard, uses a ring of magnets around a wireless charging coil to keep the phone in place while charging. This combo means it's great for stands as it props your phone up, while keeping your iPhone securely locked in place, and even charged.

The MagSafe car mounts below all fix to your car and phone in different ways. You're bound to find one that fits your car and needs. MagSafe only works with the most recent iPhones from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 14, so you'll need one of those to make these mounts work.

The list in brief

1. Belkin MagSafe Car Vent Mount PRO

The best mount for most cars

Specifications

Connection: AC vent
Size: 10.16 x 7.62 x 15.24 cm
Charging: Yes

Reasons to buy

+
Adjustable
+
Built in cable management

Reasons to avoid

-
Expensive

This is the one that Apple wants you to buy — and there's good reason for it. It's a sturdy, useful car mount that fixes into the air vents of your car, and then keeps potential cable mess all tidy with the addition of dedicated cable management.

There's a heavy duty ball joint on the back as well so that you can swing the dock around and get a different orientation for your phone, which is extremely useful for reading maps or controlling Apple Music. It's not cheap this one, but it is definitely the best.

Most Compact

2. ESR HaloLock Magnetic Wireless Car Charger

The best mount to save space

Specifications

Connection: AC vent
Size: 8 x 8 x 3.2 cm
Charging: Yes

Reasons to buy

+
Swivels on the Magsafe puck
+
Adjustable angle

Reasons to avoid

-
Only one mounting option

This ESR option is similar to the Belkin above, only only it relies on the MagSafe puck to swing the phone into a vertical position. It clips securely onto the cars air vents, and then you can change the angle using the ball joint on the back.

The MagSafe charging area is going to be super sturdy as well, because ESR has covered it with tempered glass. That means it's going to look nice without a phone on it, and stay scratch and crack free for longer.

Best budget

3. SUPERONE Mag Safe Car Mount

Best mount on a budget

Specifications

Connection: Adhesive panel/AC vent
Size: 8.41 x 8.2 x 6.4 cm
Charging: Yes

Reasons to buy

+
Inexpensive
+
Different mounting options

Reasons to avoid

-
No charging

This is the first MagSafe car mount that doesn't feature charging, and it's perfect if you're just looking to clip your phone to your dashboard. It's super lightweight and easy to fit, with a couple of options to choose from. The first features a sticky panel that can stick to your dashboard, and the second is the more conventional car vent mount.

If you need something that charges your phone, then this isn't the mount for you. If you just need to place your phone conveniently, however, then this could be perfect. It'll save you money over a charging option as well, with its lower price.

Most adjustable

4. Otterbox Car Dash/Windshield Mount for MagSafe

Best for multiple angles

Specifications

Connection: Suction cup
Size: 8.41 x 8.2 x 6.4 cm
Charging: Yes

Reasons to buy

+
Very sturdy
+
Lots of adjustability

Reasons to avoid

-
No charging

Another mount that won't charge your phone, but this time a more sturdy option from case maker Otterbox. With a massive suction cup to either stick it to your dashboard or to your windshield, there are numerous fitting options available. The arm is also super adjustable, and very heavy duty as well.

The biggest issue is that it doesn't charge your phone — although you can just use a normal charging cable if you need to get more juice in your battery. It's not cheap either — but it will last you a long time.

Best for compatability

5. Spigen Mag Fit Designed for Magsafe Car Mount

Best mount for existing MagSafe pucks

Specifications

Connection: AC vent
Size: 6.6 x 6.9 x 2.8 cm
Charging: Yes

Reasons to buy

+
Adjustable position
+
Slim and compact

Reasons to avoid

-
Needs seperate Magsafe puck

This mount is a little different — you'll need an existing MagSafe puck for it to function properly. It's more a mount for a MagSafe puck mount, a kind of plastic skeleton for the mount to sit in and then charge your phone. If you've got a puck just lying around, then this could be perfect, and save you a little money — if not, it might end up costing more than the others.

It's adjustable with a ball joint on the back, and the mount affixes with an air vent clip.

Most simple

6. TechMatte MagGrip Car Vent Mount

Simplest MagSafe car mount

Specifications

Connection: AC vent
Size: 5.61 x 5.61 x 3.4 cm
Charging: No

Reasons to buy

+
Cheap
+
Simple

Reasons to avoid

-
No charging
-
No adjustability

This MagSafe car mount is about as simple as they come — It's a circular magnet that push-fits onto your cars air vents. There's no charging, no adjustability, just a MagSafe magnet that keeps your phone static on your car's dashboard. That simplicity does mean that it's perhaps the cheapest on the list, although you may get frustrated at it's limited movement use.

Best for windscreen mounting

PROfezzion Mag Safe Car Mount

7. PROfezzion Suction Cup MagSafe Car Mount Holder

Best mount for Windscreen mounting

Specifications

Connection: Suction cup/AC vent
Size: 8 x 7 x 6 cm
Charging: No

Reasons to buy

+
Flexible goose neck
+
Multiple mount options

Reasons to avoid

-
No charging

Another one with no charging, but there is near infinite adjustability thanks to its flexible gooseneck. It can be mounted on the dashboard or on the air vents, so you can be sure it'll fit no matter what car you've got, too.

Again, if you want to charge your phone while you use it, then you'll be better off looking at something else, but this goose-necked mount will make it easier to place your phone in a good, visible spot compared to lots of the others on the list.

Best for minimalists

Moment MagSafe Carmount

8. Moment Car Vent Mount for MagSafe

Most minimalist design

Specifications

Connection: AC vent
Size: 8.4 x 8.4 x 4.9 cm
Charging: No

Reasons to buy

+
Super simple
+
Very slick looking

Reasons to avoid

-
Empty List

One for the Swedish minimalism fan here — it'll blend into you dashboard when your phone isn't attached, and then provide the perfect spot to plonk your phone when you need it. No charging, mind you, so will need to plug your phone in with a cable if you need to juice up.

Bear in mind as well that this will only work on certain car air vents, so check if yours is supported before you take the plunge.

Most secure

9. Anker Magnetic Wireless Charger (MagGo)

The sturdiest MagSafe car mount

Specifications

Connection: Suction cup
Size: 19 x 7/4 x 8.9 cm
Charging: Yes

Reasons to buy

+
Very sturdy
+
Charges

Reasons to avoid

-
Expensive

This one is a charger and a meaty arm that holds your phone at a variety of angles. It's a big charger, and it matches with its costly price tag — the highest on the list. It is, however, well worth the lofty asking price, given it has everything you could want in a MagSafe charging car mount.

It affixes to the car with a suction cup, so it can sit on your dashboard or on the windshield. That arm can be swung around, and then the phone itself can be swiveled to get the phone in different angles.

The magic power of magnets

You can always trust iMore. Our team of Apple experts have years of experience testing all kinds of tech and gadgets, so you can be sure our recommendations and criticisms are accurate and helpful. Find out more about how we test.

Ideally, you need a case-less iPhone to be able to trust the magnets keep your phone properly stuck to the care mount. However, you can rely on one of the best MagSafe cases for iPhone 14 Pro or similar to keep it safe. If you need to use a case, stick with a MagSafe-compatible one so you can still use the car mount effectively.

Our favorite mount from this list is the Belkin Vent Mount Pro. Available on the Apple Store as well as other locations, you know it's a reliable option. If you want to spend less though, consider the SuperOne MagSafe car mount instead. It won't do any charging but it will put your phone in place and do so cheaply.

We have loads of other lists as well if these don't tickle your fancy, from the best Magnetic car mounts for iPhone to the best wireless chargers for multiple devices.

Q&A

Are MagSafe Car mounts safe for driving?

This depends on your habits. If you drive safely and never stare at the phone screen, you'll be safe. However, if you're likely to stare at your screen often, you should avoid putting in a car mount. It's also important to check one is legal in your State or country. Check local law enforcement rules and regulations to make sure you won't get into trouble.

Is MagSafe strong enough for a car mount?

Yes, MagSafe is very strong. The ring of magnets on the back of your phone are designed to be very secure. Despite that, they're still easy to disengage when you need to take your phone with you. The magnets in a car mount will be stronger than those found in a desktop MagSafe charger as well.

Will my phone case affect MagSafe?

It can. It depends on the phone case you have. Many cases are MagSafe-compatible but if you have an older one, it might be lacking the extra magnets you gain from a MagSafe case. Check if your case is MagSafe compatible. If it's pretty basic, plastic or silicone, it's unlikely to be compatible so you'll need to buy a new one.
