Verizon's second quarter profits soar, highest recorded revenue in six quarters

Verizon has posted its second quarter earnings, which saw the carrier accruing a double-digit percentage increase in operating income and earnings per share. Over the course of the quarter, Verizon has managed to add 1.4 million new postpaid wireless subscribers, up from 941,000 over the same period last year.

Three UK makes 0800 numbers free on new SIM-only plans

UK mobile operator Three has announced new SIM-only plans, enabling consumers to save on calling 08- numbers. Free 0800 calls will be included, while other 08- numbers (084, 087, etc) will cost 5p per minute. The network will also be introducing new spending tools, which will prevent customers from exceeding allowances and limits on premium numbers. On top of all this, new allowances for tethering will be rolled out.

FTC claims T-Mobile charged customers millions for bogus SMS subscription fees [Updated]

Update: T-Mobile CEO John Legere has posted a public response to these claims, saying they are "unfounded and without merit." He goes on to talk about T-Mobile's proactive response to these issues as compared to the competition. You can find the full statement at the T-Mobile Newsroom

Original story: The Federal Trade Commission says that T-Mobile has placed "hundreds of millions" of dollars in bogus charges into customer bills. In a press release issued today, the government office alleges that T-Mobile included premium SMS fees that it knew were fraudulent because of the high cancel-rates from subscribers. This is a practice the FTC calls "cramming."

T-Mobile hits mid-year LTE expansion goal

T-Mobile announced that it has achieved its mid-year coverage goal of expending its LTE footprint. Now the Un-carrier network announced that as of the end of June, it now has 230 million points-of-presence for its 4G LTE footprint, meaning its network is expanding and LTE is available in more areas. And though T-Mobile has hit its milestone for June, the carrier says that it will continue to expand its LTE footprint.
