Bloomberg: Apple preparing faster iPhone 5 for September with 8 mega-pixel camera

Game developers testing Apple A5-chip equipped iPhone 4?

Bloomberg has jumped into the iPhone 5 rumor game, saying that the next generation iPhone will launch in September with the same form factor as the current iPhone 4.

The device will include the A5 processor, the more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public. The new iPhone will closely resemble the iPhone 4, the people said.

This is in stark contrast to yesterday’s rumors from BGR, which claimed an August release for a redesigned iPhone 5.

Bloomberg also claim its sources confirmed a few other rumors that we have heard before. It claims Apple is working on a new iPad with a resolution of a third higher than the iPad 2; with a more responsive touchscreen. This one is a bit sketchy due to the problems this would cause developers. It also resurrected the rumor of a cheaper iPhone for developing countries, which could be the basis for the long standing iPhone nano rumors. This, it says, will use the current chip and screen of the iPhone 4. Sounds like the iPhone 4 will more likely just become the cheaper option for carriers just as the iPhone 3GS is now.

TiPb keeps hearing a September/October release timeframe for iPhone 5, along with the possibility of another iPad this year, and the "iPhone nano" device, in whatever form it takes, so there may well be something to this. What do you think?

Done deal. Just got to hold out a few more months. This EXTREMELY outdated flip phone is killing me.

Michael Scrip says:

Me too.
I've had a Blackberry on Verizon since 2009... and it's got a trackball.
It's THAT old...

jbrandonf says:

Won't happen. Not with Apple's emphasis on battery life.

Chris says:

But Apple is the "king" of battery life remember?

RRR says:

I'm concerned about Apple. The iphone 5 sounds like a minor update of the iphone, and it is coming later than usual. So, there is less innovation in this model, and it's later. Seems to me like the pace of innovation at Apple has slipped a bit. For a company that is all about innovation, that is worrying.

Chris says:

They won't delay the iPhone for a "minor" update.

TFausett says:

There will be no iPad 3 or iPhone nano this year I guarantee it. The iPhone 5 on the other hand I really don't care if they do a whole redesign or if it's the same as the iPhone 4 with the faster specs. Just give it to me now!

Chris says:

iPad 3 in September and the iPhone nano as a rebranded 3Gs used for the prepaid market.

cardfan says:

If not a total redo, i' the iphone 5 anyways. Sell old one, buy new one, pocket a small profit.
Given the economics of it, who cares? Why wouldn't you upgrade if you're eligible? Even if its the same phone, the A5 will give it features you don't have right now such as wireless airplay.

cheburashka says:

i think with all the new android+webos features that apple fill finally add to ios5 this fall people will be seeing the iphone 5 as a whole new phone and not just an incremental upgrade.

OrionAntares#CB says:

Who cares, lets get some information on how their going to improve the iPod touch. Better not be another case of 'it would have cost us an extra dollar to do this but we'd rather save it for a future model'.

Chris says:

the touch will be thinner then before. Wait, nthe 4th gen was already too thin

OrionAntares#CB says:

They're going to make the next iPod touch so thin that it will actually collapse in on itself and create a black hole.
