The Camera app launched with the original iPhone. Designed by Mike Matas, it featured a delightful shutter animation and sound, and an even more amazing tap-to-focus feature. Combined with the large, live preview it helped kickstart the iPhone into become the best camera... that most people had with them most of the time.
Camera and iOS 3 brings video
With iOS 3 — then known as iPhoneOS 3 — and the iPhone 3G, the Camera added the ability to shoot video.
Camera and iOS 4.1 brings HDR
High Dynamic Range (HDR) came to the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1.
Camera and iOS 6 brings Panorama
Although Apple had been experimenting with Panorama photography since at least iOS 7 it didn't make it into the feature list until the iPhone 5 and iOS 6.
Camera and iOS 7 brings filters
iOS 7 brought not only a new design to the Camera app but new filters. Call them trendy if you must, but on the iPhone 5s they update live and include: Mono, Tonal, Fade, Noir, Chrome, Process, Transfer, and Instant.
iOS 7.1 added auto-HDR to the iPhone 5s as well.
