Following up on the education event in New York, Apple has posted an instructional video for the new iBooks Author app available in the Mac App Store.

The video goes over some of the default templates Apple has included, as well as some of the more fluid user-interface elements like drag-and-drop, widgets and deep customization options. One thing I noticed was the built-in accessibility options Apple has included, which makes creating books that people with disabilities can read and experience much easier. You can also preview your book on the iPad to make sure it looks just the way you want it to look.

All in all, the video is very educational and details most of the functionality included in iBooks Author. Check it out!

Apple has announced iBooks 2 at their education event in New York and to kick things off in the iBookStore will be high school books. Partnering with such providers as Pearson, McGraw Hill, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt — Apple has laid out their pricing plans for high school books. Starting free and moving upward to $14.99, high school books will be available for one-click purchase, always updated and students get to keep their copy.

Apple has noted they will be working with additional partners as they go along to help broaden the range of available books, but the selection within the iBookStore is already starting to fill up even with available offerings.

Apple has announced iBooks Author at the education event in New York. iBooks Author will allow you to create books within Mac OS X for digital distribution through the iBookstore.

You can select from a number of templates already created for you or import your existing content. iBooks Author is made to compliment and work nicely with applications such as Word, Pages, and Keynote. You can even turn Keynote presentations into widgets within your book.

iBooks Author will be available today as a free download in the Mac App Store.

Apple has announced iBooks 2 at their education event in New York. With this comes the edition of a new Textbooks section in the iBookstore. You’ll be able to search for textbooks in the same way you currently find all your other books or apps. One click purchase is available as well as a free sample of the book.

Apple has awarded most of their top executives a $60 million bonus this year. Apple didn’t just go and deposit $60 million into each of their accounts, instead they awarded each top executive 150,000 shares. 50% of the shares will be vested on June 21, 2013, and the rest in March 2016. Apple spokesperson Steve Dowling said that the executives are extremely talented and dedicated to their work, and that this is a way to continue to reward them down the road for their hard work. We’ve already launched Monday Brief, Android Central Video, iPad Live Video, iPhone Live Video and TiPb TV, ZENandTECH Video, and Mobile Nations Video, and we’ll have the other shows on your screens and your TVs very, very soon. With Halloween falling on a Monday this year, we know a lot of you will be out this weekend in costume getting your party on. So to celebrate Halloween and the official launch of our new Mobile Nations network branding, we thought we’d have some fun with a cross-site mobile device + costume contest!

What You Need to Do

When you’re out at Halloween parties this weekend or out trick or treating on Monday, get a photo snapped of you in costume holding your smartphone and/or tablet visibly out in hand. Be scary, funny or do a crazy pose. Whatever you want is cool. Have fun with it. For brownie points, load up TiPb in the web browser or throw a TiPb.com wallpaper on. Group photos with friends and co-workers are welcome too. As most of our TiPb Forums regulars probably noticed, we’ve been moving things around on a fairly massive scale lately. Basically, we’re going from a nice home in the burbs to a big party house in the hills. That’s because you deserve more — more space to play and more features to play with.

We’ve done some work on the blogs already and started a new Mobile Nations podcast, so it was about time we gave the forums some love.

First of all we’re bringing things more in line with the other Smartphone Experts communities. Many of you use multiple platforms and several devices now and as you move through our network we want you to feel at home no matter which site you’re on. That means you’ll see the same types of device forums on TiPb now that you’ve always enjoyed on Android Central, CrackBerry.com, PreCentral.net, etc.

It also means, like any move to bigger digs, some of the rooms will be a little empty for a while. We can only stretch the furniture so far! We’d love you to help us with the decor, though, so jump in, start some threads, and get posting. There will be some great contests coming up, and it just might be a good idea to keep busy now… hint. hint.

New features are also coming, along with a fresh coat of paint. Again, we’ve got a lot of great new stuff in the pipeline and we can’t wait to show it to you.

Huge thanks to the SPE team, Kevin, Tom, Marcus, Steph, and Cory, and to Jeremy and the TiPb Forum mods for all the help, front and back of house. CNBC: Titans will be airing an unauthorized biography of “The undisputed king of Silicon Valley for the better part of three decades,” Steve Jobs, tonight at 9PM PT/1AM ET.

We don’t expect much if any new information, at least nothing that is not readily available via the internet, but a look back at life of the genius who brought us the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod is sure not to disappoint.

At the very least, it should hold you over until his official biography , iSteve: The Book of Jobs is released.

• Disqus is commenting system that offers a lot more options than our previous, built in version. • Google search is just much better than what we had before. The old search was chronological so you got the last post about a certain term, not the best, most relevant one. It will also let you search across the blog, forum, and store (or choose to filter based on just one of those if you prefer.) Now all the Google power is yours on TiPb.

• +1 is a way to show your love for a particular post, to tell people it’s cool and help your friends and contacts find it, if it’s of interest to them. It joins our existing Facebook Like, Tweet, LinkedIn, and Buzz buttons, because choice matters, dagnabit!

As of now, you must use TV-out to experience Real Racing 2 HD in full 1080p HD on your TV. This update will the first of its kind and will be available when iOS 5 is released.

Who’s excited?

Apple has announced the iCloud app Photo Stream – it brings the cloud to photos. When a photo is taken with one of your devices, it will be sent to the cloud and then to all other devices, including the Apple TV – automatically.

Photo Stream may be an individual iCloud app, but it is tied into the already existing Photos app on iOS devices. There will now be a new album called “Photo Stream”. On a Mac, you will find it in iPhoto, and on a PC, it will be the Pictures folder.

Apple will store the most recent 1000 images in the cloud for 30 days. Move them into a different album on your Mac or PC to save them permanently.

iOS 5 will include an all-new iMessage service across the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The system has a look and feel a lot like the text message app in iOS for the iPhone, and comes with a BBM-style delivery and read receipts, real-time typing indications and looks really great.

Messages are pushed across all iOS devices and since it’s all cross-device, you can pick up on the conversation right where you left off when switching from your iPhone to your iPad or iPod touch. The system, of course, will use the new notifications system in iOS 5. Tapping on the notification brings you straight to the new messaging interface, letting the recipient see right when you begin typing.

iMessage includes sending messages, photos and videos right from the camera roll or albums and works over WiFi or 3G.

Apple has really outdone themselves on this one, what do you think?

Scott Forstall just announced on stage at WWDC a new iOS 5 feature called Newsstand, which integrates newspapers and digital magazines onto the iOS homescreen.

The app resides on the springboard but behaves much like iOS folders. Tap the app and you’re presented with a thumbnail view of each magazine or newspaper you’re subscribed to directly from the homescreen. All downloaded subscriptions are stored on the device for offline viewing. Newspapers look just like paper newspapers, and magazines look and behave like a real magazine.

Newspapers include New York Times, SF Chronicle, Daily Telegraph and many more. Magazine publishers are jumping on board too, with National Geographic, SPIN, Conde Nast, Nylon, The Telegraph, GQ Esquire etc. You can purchase subscriptions through the App Store in a special section, and when downloaded the newspaper or magazine is placed directly into your Newsstand folder.

It’s looking pretty sweet — will you be using Newsstand to replace magazine and newspaper subscriptions?

Apple has just confirmed that CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will present its World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC 2011) keynote on June 6 at 10am PDT, and both iOS 5 and iCloud are on the agenda.

Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering.

This is the first official mention we have seen of iCloud, so the anticipation for next week is building to to a peak! We will be there to bring you all the news as it happens!
