Rooster Teeth Productions has put together a short tongue-in-cheek video trailer based upon the theory that Siri has become self aware and decides it no longer wants to be your personal assistant. Instead it turns against the human race and decides to go on a killing spree avenging all those lame things you asked it to do in the past.

The video is called Siri: The Holiday Horror Movie and is based on a group of friends who all receive an iPhone 4S for Christmas. The joy is short lived as one by one Siri oversees their timely demise. It is a very well put together trailer; but beware it does include a little blood!

Some animals just have no taste and this Pug is definitely one of them. Picture the scene; he is happily lying on his owner’s bed watching TV when a commercial comes on. The commercial is for the latest and greatest iPhone 4S but this Pug is having none of it. It sends him into a barking and growling frenzy, stamping his feet, gnashing his teeth, it really is a site to behold. As soon as the ad is finished, he settles down again and continues watching the TV.

Now as we all know, the iPhone 4S is the best iPhone ever, this little Pug must either hate the music on the ad or just hates ads all together. I am sure it has nothing to do with the iPhone 4S!

Not content with any of the existing Siri parodies on the web, TiPb contributor George Lim and the guys from TEChBrits decided to have some fun of their own. It’s a shot-for-shot remake of Apple’s own intro video, only… with not so happy results. For them.

The folks over at Red Pepper Land came up with an ingenious way to get Siri to pour you a cold glass of beer, completely hands free, using Twitter, an Arduino controller and an R/C toy car. They call it Beeri, and I want it..

When Beeri sees a new Tweet containing the word “pour” she triggers the sequence of preprogrammed pour commands (go, stop, adjust) that interface with the truck’s circuit board to control her movement. Her route is preprogrammed (drive straight) until her two proximity detectors sense her moving away from the puncture wall after impact. This allows her to halt the driving sequence and adjust to a 6 inch depth in order to get the beer to enter the funnel. With a clean pint glass underneath to collect the liquid gold, the only thing left to do is enjoy your tasty beverage.

Hey, no one promised you the cool new future wouldn’t be a little messy, right?

The Developers over at Pheromone Labs are working on a photography app for a client and one of their duties is to take ten to fifteen thousand test photos with the app. This is a time-consuming and daunting task, so the developers came up with a creative solution: a picture-taking LEGO robot!

The idea was simple: build a set of arms driven by a motor. The arms would then simulate a user taking photos with the iPad. After discussing the idea with our resident rock star and creative genius Mathieu Savage, we located a Lego Mindstorm set belonging to our champion story teller and master of analytics Tom Boutet.

I love the creativity of this idea! However, I can’t help but wonder how much time was spent designing and assembling the robot. Regardless, even if it was equal to the amount of time it’d take to manually snap 10,000 photos, this was much cooler.

After reading the news Precentral.net broke about Palm once again being split into separate software (likely to wither) and hardware (likely to die) units, it made me wish we could get a new show on FOX this fall called “Jobs’ Business Nightmare”. Just like the Gordon Ramsay cooking show, Steve Jobs could tackle another bumbling, downward spiraling tech company each week, shake them up, reorganize their product matrixes, and turn them back towards the path to success. Just like he did with Apple. And he could miraculously do it all in 44 min. Just like Ramsway.

HP could be the pilot.

I’d watch.

This bra features the red bird and green pig from everyone’s favorite game, Angry Birds! Hand painted using acrylic paint with a textile medium. It is permanent and washable, and it will come with care instructions.

I’ll admit, I’m tempted to pick one of these up! This bra cracks me up and it would bring me lots of giggles knowing that I’m sporting some Angry Birds under my shirt. I’d be interested in an Angry Birds bikini as well!

The crazy guys from Topfruit have put together a very clever time lapse video showing what they think the iPhone 5 will look like. Strangely enough, these fruit obsessed people decided to make an iPhone 5 solely from fruit and vegetables. They also point out that no fruit was harmed during the making of the video. All the fruit was used for compost at the end!

Here’s a fun story about how an iPhone 4 was used to catch a pesky doorbell ditcher.

James, a UK iOS developer, was being harassed by a doorbell ditcher every morning for a week and wanted to catch the culprit in the act. When he realized that standing at the door all morning looking out his peephole was impractical, he noticed that his iPhone 4 could do it for him. So James grabbed some blue tac, stuck his iPhone to the door, and waited nearby while enjoying his morning coffee with his girlfriend. When he saw the doorbell ditcher arrive, he snapped a photo. Turns out it was the neighbor kid being a prankster on his way to school every day.

After grabbing the pic and quickly opening the door with a loud “HELLOOO!” and watching the poor rascal’s skeleton leap out of his body in shock, we were able to show his mother the picture and peace was restored.

Such a great story! Anyone else use their iPhone in an unconventional way?

The iOS 5 big reveal will be at WWDC tomorrow, Apple always like to say its devices are magical; well if you watch this video they really are. German magician Simon Pierro, who is a German Magic Circle Master, has put together his take on what to expect from iOS 5. He demonstrates some amazing new magical features on his iPad 2. As you would expect, it is rather different to what we all expect but it is well worth a watch.

One More Thing (WWDC 2011 Song) by Smixx

The video below shows Ronen Verbit having a silly time playing with a little red ball. It doesn’t sound very interesting, until you see how he uses three iPhone 4 screens to tell the story.

Ronen, along with a few friends, were able to shoot three separate videos and combine them into one creative and fun story displayed across the three screens depicting him being ‘stuck’ inside the iPhone 4. It’s rather deviceful (no pun intended!) and they did a great job putting this together — check out the full video after the jump!

What will the next generation iPhone 5 look like when it’s finally released — likely this fall? Will it be like the iPhone 3GS was, the same casing with faster processors, cameras, etc.? Or will it be an all new design inspired by the MacBook Air or iPod touch? (I’ve gone out on a limb and said my wish is a return of the metal back). Maybe a bigger screen like some of those Android Phones, or a smaller screen, iPhone nano, like the soon-to-be-shipping HP Veer? Or could Apple push the pace of innovation again and finally give us a translucent device, like we’ve seen in Avatar or Iron Man?

South Park started out season 15 with an episode that makes fun of Apple on multiple levels including the recent negative press they’ve received around the location tracking bug.

The episode is called “HUMANCENTiPAD” and is about Kyle being tracked down by Apple to be used in a hilariously disgusting new product that Kyle unknowingly agreed to volunteer for by not reading the terms and conditions of the latest iTunes update that he accepted.

Good April Fool’s jokes seem hard to come by these days, but not for this news anchor who convinced his co-host to lick an iPad immediately after she exclaimed “I’m not licking an iPad!”

The host told a story about a breaking new app that lets you taste and smell things on your iPhone or iPad. The new technology was called Pietzo Electrics and although the co-host seemed disgusted by the idea, she was too intrigued to turn it down once the app was placed in front of her.

I’ve turned off almost all notifications on my iPhone. No email sound or vibration, no Twitter popups, nothing from Facebook — even if it worked, nothing from Ping — if anyone used it, no Game Center trumpets, no nothing. Almost. I do leave on SMS and Phone (because I need working telephony), and Calendar and Alarm still get to alert me (because I need to stay employed). That’s it.

But it used to be the opposite.

When MobileMe and ActiveSync first came to iOS 2 (then iPhone OS 2.0) I put those suckers on full blast. They could beep and buzz every few seconds as far as I was concerned. When Apple finally launched Push Notifications and Boxcar created one of the first Twitter alert systems, I couldn’t wait to see all the mentions and DMs pop up. Likewise with Beejive when they added Push. Eventually I had a full complement of task managers, social networks, IM clients, reminders, texts, mail, and I can’t even remember what else going off seemingly all the time. (Yes, that included in my pocket when I was trying to have conversations, and it did produce all manner of strange looks, especially from people far more sane than I.)

Since iOS still lacks mode settings (i.e. home vs. work, day vs. night) and it was far too cumbersome to manually turn off notifications at night, I’d suffer through them in my sleep as well. I’d just flip the ringer switch to silent and leave my iPhone rattling on my side table all night. (Yeah, I was single at the time — thanks!) I wondered if it reduced my sleep efficiency but hey, it was cool tech.

Then something started to happen. I started to ignore them. Turns out being notified all the time is the same as being notified never. If everything is important, nothing is. Then it changed again and rather than notification it became distraction. Focus is often key to execution and having something whizz and whine at random yet frequent intervals throughout the day started shredding my focus and harming my ability to execute. (Especially push spam — nothing like reaching for the phone and seeing a bunch of junk emails and bogus @mentions to really drive home the value of notifications.)

It reminded me of that episode of the X-Files where all the devils are congregating to swap stories about how they were driving humans to insanity and, after several of them had gone, the last one admitted he didn’t do much of anything — humans were all too willing to drive themselves crazy. The devil’s example was the snooze button on the alarm clock — a device fiendishly designed to destroy our only naturally peaceful state… and then repeat that destruction over and over again in 5-10 minute intervals. Our own implementations of technology were enough to make anyone jump out a window.

Eventually a few friends told me to cut out the annoying racket and I did. I turned it all off. Well, almost all of it as I described above. Now my iPhone sits peacefully and quietly 95% of the time. (And if Apple provided some sort of night time mode, where meeting invitations from Europe wouldn’t fire up at 4am it would be 98% of the time.)

I check email whenever I want to check email anyway. I check Twitter whenever I want to check Twitter. I check Facebook whenever… I really, really have to. I don’t need people to challenge me to games I’m not playing or alert me to music I’m not listening to. I’m fine.

Anyone else just said no to notifications? Anyone thinking about it? Let me know. I’m interested how you’re using push and how, if at all, it keeps you informed or just keeps you interrupted.

I’ve come to a realization: I hate my Apple earbuds. They’re more like a medieval torture contraption for my ears than a comfortable manner in which to listen to music. Apple has Jonathan Ive and some of the most sought after designers in the world on staff, taking chunks of glass and metal and molding them into a devices that aren’t just phones or players or tablets but works of art. Yet the standard earbuds that come with these beautiful pieces of art are ungainly, ill-fitting, and just plain annoying to wear for any length of time.

Here’s the the thing — the Apple earbuds are just way to large for a smaller person’s ears. After a few songs, the large round earbuds start causing me a good deal of pain. I end up with the choice of either suffering through the pain or placing them so lightly in my ears that the earbuds are about to fall out (not that they don’t fall out eventually anyway!)

The shape and size of the earbuds for iPod and iPhone has not changed in years. The diameter and roundness of the earbud is not anywhere close to ergonomic. You would think that over the years, and with all the complaints, Apple would have redesigned them into something more inspired. Even the Apple mouse has been shown more love over the years! To add insult to injury you can buy some Apple in-ear headphones for $80, which means that someone at Apple knows that this would be preferable to the circular torture disks that come in the box.

Now it’s not all bad. For a pair of stock headphones I do find that the sound is acceptable and, since the introduction of the iPhone, Apple has added a mic and control button with increasing amounts of functionality. It’s just that they get so much right it’s especially frustrating when they get something wrong for so long.

So am I just being difficult in wanting them to also be comfortable enough to use for more than a few songs? How do you feel about your Apple stock headphones?

The guys over a Blendtec have just released a video for the iPad 2 version of Will it blend?If you haven’t seen these videos before, they basically involve a guy in a lab coat sticking an expensive item of tech in a blender. This one is hard to watch, especially if your still waiting to get your hands on an iPad 2, it’s such a waste!

Last night, Conan O’Brian had a fun, life-sized game of Angry Birds on stage and teased Apple for getting cocky about the iPad 2 with a mock promo video that is based off the following slogan:

To make the Angry Birds game more exciting, Conan had the pigs hiding under IKEA furniture because Finland’s arch rival is Sweden (Angry Birds was developed in Finland, and IKEA is based out of Swedan).

The iPad is the ultimate internet device, its a great gaming platform, but how is it in a protest?

In Lithuania, there have been protests against the country’s emigration policy. People carry signs, people chant, however one man, decided that he would update old ‘protest’ conventions with new technology.

He held up his iPad…..on a stick. The iPad was playing a slideshow of ‘protest’ captions, though due to the weather, it was seen in a see-thru plastic bag to protect it from the rain.

Despite the serious nature of the protest, this was a definite laugh for those watching nearby.

What could be better than our favourite muppet friends from Sesame Street singing? How about singing There’s an app for that? You may remember a few weeks ago all of the TiPb staff were “muppetised”. The folks over at OkCupid have performed a little study where they analyze photography from a numerical angle. The finding we found most interesting is that iPhone users have more sex than other smartphone users.

The above chart compares the number of sexual partners of 30 year olds who use an iPhone, Blackberry, or Android phone. They also broke down the data of the number of sexual partners by age. The iPhone wins on that chart too.

The mathematical part of me has to ask, are iPhone users attracting more partners because they use an iPhone, or is that that these people prefer iPhones (perhaps because of all those dating apps)? In the chance that it’s the former, any Android users ready to make the switch?

Apple held a press conference today to discuss the antenna issue on the iPhone 4. To open the conference, they showed a YouTube video titled “The iPhone Antenna Song”.

Even though the song takes Apple’s side, it’s great to see Apple have a sense of humor about this whole mess and give a fan some spotlight. This song also takes a jab at certain blogs… — maybe that’s why Steve liked it so much?

Yeah, so the iPad does eBooks, movies and apps but what we all really want to know is — Will it Blend! (iPad smoothy anyone?)

You knew with a name like the iPad, the jokes they would follow but Hiphandmaids on Etsy takes it to a new level.

They have developed a real, usable case which is in the form of a feminine napkin — and yes it has wings. Etsy is selling these “cases” for $30.00 US for the month of March as a promotion.

Japan’s Solid Alliance decided that the bar for “crazy earphones” just hadn’t been raised high enough and so they’ve released these adorable/idiotic plastic embellishments which make you look like you have various implements coming out of your ears. For those who may not have already seen the first set of earphones they consisted of: sushi, paws, banana and a large bolt. These 4 new earbuds consist of: an apple with an arrow through it, a knife which looks like it is stabbed through your head, a mushroom, and a little ear.

They’ll cost you ¥2000, or about $20 and have a 3.5mm adaptor so they will fit in your iPhone or iPod touch.

So, am I the only one who likes these earphones ? Would you ever buy Crazy Earphones for yourself… or a friend ?

This one will be painful to watch for the good folks over at Precentral.net. Heck, even we feel a bit bad about this one but It seems as if the owner of this particular Pre had some major screen issues that he couldn’t live with any longer – 3 cracked screens in the span of 3 months.

Rest be assured, this device will be replaced with a new iPhone 3GS. At least that’s what his friends told him…

Everyone, including Steve Jobs, has very reasonable sounding theories as to why the third gen iPod touch camera was removed. Rather than rehash it again, however, we thought we’d let our minds wonder into parody, and consider what might have happened in a world only slightly more cartoonish than ours…

Steve Jobs, fresh from his recent leave of absence, comes crashing back into Apple’s Cupertino campus, and after fixing the typography on the iPhone 3G S 3GS, tweaking some pixels on the Snow Leopard UI, and spending time meditating deep in the iTablet vault, he heads over to the scorched closet that used to be reserved for iPhone A2DP testing…

“64GB a go?” he demands. “Good”

“Is it thinner?” grumble. “Next year…”

“What about those ultra-tiny auto-focus 3 megapixel sensors we received?” Massive frown. “They don’t work? Not any of them? Then what’s this prototype using?”

The room goes dead silent.

“The iPod nano VGA camera? In a premium, flagship product, that runs the iPhone OS and supports gorgeous stills and breathtaking video?”

The silence is broken by the sound of the iPod touch with camera prototype ricochetting off the head of the hapless white-coat who had the temerity to offer it up.

“Yank it, bozos.” Jobs strides from the room, Dark Force lightning blistering the air around him. “And let’s try to raise the intelligence in this room by next spring, shall we?”

And, boom, no camera, not even a nano-style VGA one in the iPod touch this fall. If that’s the case, however, it’s hard to argue with Jobs (or whomever made the final decision?) that an iPod touch class device demands an iPhone 3GS, and not iPod nano class camera.

That’s not the way Apple plays cricket. They don’t do choppy 15-frame a second video on the iPhone 3G, and they won’t put a nano camera in the iPod touch.

As Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was taking the stage for a private company meeting at Seattle’s Safeco Field, he saw an employee about to snap his picture with… an iPhone. So, Ballmer decided to snap instead. TechFlash (via Engadget) reports he grabbed the iPhone from the hapless employee, began making “funny comments”, put the iPhone on the floor and pretended to stamp on it, and then continued on, only to remind the employee he hadn’t forgotten about him later.

Maybe Ballmer should just forbid iPhones at Microsoft the way Bill Gates forbids them at home? Or, you know, get Windows Mobile back in order and make a phone so good no one at Microsoft would want to use anything else?

Of course, if it had been an Apple event, and Steve Jobs had caught one of his employees rocking an Windows Mobile device, no doubt Jobs eyes would have glowed and Omega Beams would have shot out and fried the poor soul on the spot.

(Yeah, we know Apple Store employees all use Windows CE devices to process credit card transactions, shhhh!).

Mosspuppet, the hand puppet parody of Wall Street Journal technology columnist Walt Mossberg, is back and this time once again using satire to speak the truth none dare speak out loud — that freshly resigned Eric Schmidt was a actually a spy sent by Google to steal Apple’s childhood sense of wonder restoration engine. Or not.

Gizmodo made our Friday just a little more bizarrely amusing with a story about a British gang whose DJ made some music, got it up on iTunes (and Amazon) with a 40% commission, and then used stolen credit cards to buy it — making them look popular, and $300,000 “richer” at the same time. Strangest part?

the British police won’t know why they did it until they ask them?

Us neither then.

Daring Fireball has posted a bitingly satirical look at Apple’s iPhone App Store review process which, like the best of comedy, is firmly rooted in both tragedy and truth. That Apple hasn’t posted clear guidelines for developers is frustrating enough. That they apparently haven’t imposed them on their own internal staff raises the flabbergast bar to dizzying new heights.

With 35,000+ apps and a billion downloads Apple is well on their way towards building that next great platform. Until they fix the app approval process, however, that building is a house of cards.

Enough of the choir preaching. Here’s Gruber bringing the painful funny:

MONDAY MAY 18: The dude who wrote that game with the iPhone icon seems very upset. Says that the iPhone image is used to explain that the user must tilt the device in order to play the game, and so how can he show this visually without using an image of an iPhone. It’s WWDC 2009. Steve or Phil or Scott or Joz or whomever is handling the heavy lifting for the iPhone 3.0 section and release-date announcement smiles and says — “There’s one more thing…

“Last year we showed you Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support. Nobody expected it, but we were blown away by the reception. This year, we’re announcing BlackBerry Connect support for the iPhone. With this, not only can you chat with your team over BlackBerry Messenger, but you can push data right from your Corporate BES. And to tell us more about it, ladies and gentlemen, here’s CrackBerry Kevin the Co-CEO of Research in Motion–”

Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? It does to me. I know it does to Kevin. No way in Hull (it’s in Ontario — look it up!) this happens, right? It’s not like Apple would ever do business with a competitor such as RIM… or Microsoft… or Google…

Would Apple even want BlackBerry Connect — a software layer that emulates varying amounts of BlackBerry functionality on other devices like Symbian, Palm, or Windows Mobile — on the iPhone? They’ve certainly got some degree of business integration now with the aforementioned Microsoft ActiveSync. And from RIM’s side, while they have licensed BlackBerry Connect in the past, it’s not like they’ve been putting any emphasis on it in the present, have they?

Aside from letting iPhone users instachat more seamlessly with BlackBerry users — dogs and cats living together, as Dieter would say — is there anything really in it for consumers either? It wouldn’t give the iPhone a keyboard or the BlackBerry the ability to run more than a handful of tiny, on-memory apps. And, instead of breaking down more proprietary communication protocols, it would just be extending PIN the way it’s already extended ActiveSync.

Still, crazier things have happened. What if this did? Would you want it?

Yesterday CrackBerry Kevin had a little funny at TiPb’s expense with their “Confessions” post of a Ruby Park strip. Fine. Two can play at that game. Above, via PvPonline, is the new official response to anyone bringing a BlackBerry into a “just works” place. B’okay?

A week or so ago we ran a quote from Vogue that basically said Bill and Melinda Gates had banned iPods and iPhones from their house, though Melinda admitted sometimes she wished she had an iPhone (and honestly, who — outside of WMExperts — could blame her?)

Well, absent more information we turn to more comedy, and specifically Funny or Die‘s spoof of what’s really going on inside the Gateskeep.

Our public frenemy number one, Kevin from CrackBerry.com rubbed his nefarious hands, squealed in sinister glee, and shot off this link to a video showing all the jealous, outdated smartphones ganging up on our elegant, perfectly balanced iPhone for a little cartoon chaos. (Also: someone dubbed — poorly — some kind of Brooklyn accent on our iPhone hero: everyone knows he really speaks like a chorus of Steve Jobs).

The language is NOT appropriate for children, so stay away if you’re not old enough to play.

Also, if anyone has the UNEDITED footage, where the iPhone grabs the BlackBerry in a Wushi finger hold and Skeedoosh’s the push out of him, send that link our way ASAP.

Another analyst deflating missive from everyone’s favorite mythical Mac pundit, the Macalope. This time, the horny headed one explains why there’s no Flash or Java on the iPhone:

And here we have the real issue. Sure, the iPhone could run Flash, but — particularly given the already unoptimized state of Flash on OS X — it would probably have to run some stripped-down, crappier version of Flash.
