Apple Store - Your iPhone 4 will deliver on June 23rd (?!)
Apple has apparently sent out an email to customers who pre-ordered iPhone 4 for delivery -- telling them it will arrive a day early, June 23, and to make sure they'll be around to receive it.
In the past pre-order shipments have sometimes had early delivery dates, but Apple has always had FedEx or UPS hold the package for arrival on the proper day (sometimes causing huge problems, like on international iPad launch). Is this an attempt to avoid courier congestion? To ease carrier activation overload?
We'd think it was a cruel joke, but we've received so many identical tips for all of you now that we're well beyond the point of even considering it fake.
Still, we recommend no one gets their hopes up until the shiny new box is actually in hand. If you're an employer, however, we recommend you get ready for the great iPhone call-in-sick day of 2010!

Dear Apple Store Customer,
You recently received a Shipment Notification email from Apple advising you that your iPhone has shipped.
This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.
In the event that you will not be available to accept delivery on June 23rd, it may be more convenient to use our pre-sign delivery option by visiting our Order Status website at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

Got the email today. 23rd on the unit ordered from apple.com. 24th on the unit ordered through AT&T.
My wife and I both received this email message this morning. I also thought it was a fake, but it does appear to be real.

Fedex tracking has always stated an estimated delivery date of 23rd for me and still does, although my phone appears to have been stuck in customs in Alaska since midday yesterday.
Will Fedex drop off the package if nobody is home?
I guess others are seeing the same. Still no word on the one I ordered through the AT&T store tho. And the one through the apple store was the wife's phone.

I got the email too this morning to my surprise but my fedex tracking still says june 24 by 4:30pm. I bought an iphone 3g in Dec 2008 so this is my first experience with iphone launch day craziness.

@Scotter21 If you ordered through Apple, you can go to the order status page and print a "Pre-sign" form that you can just tape to your door and FedEx will leave the package for you even if you're not home.
My buddy reserved his for an Apple store pick up. Was giving me crap yesterday about getting his first. Sure hope I get the last laugh!
I ordered 2 from AT&T first one has a tracking number, second still showing in progress...hmmm...
I got the Apple email last night saying the 23rd as well. All the emails from apple have said the 23rd, but this one did say that although FedEx shows the 24th, that it will deliver the 23rd.

I received the email this morning but the FedEx page still says delivery on June 24th by 4:30pm. However, it shows the phone's location at a FedEx location just a few hours away from me.
Just loaded the FEDEX tracking and it shows first phone to be delivered 6/23 by 3:00pm...hopefully the second will show soon.

According to my email from AT&T with the Fedex number, my estimated delivery is Jun 23, 2010 by 3:00 PM. Not holding my breath in the least, but wouldn't that be entertaining...
Got mine this morning and it says by 10:30 am on the 23rd my last day off for vacation thank god I am sooooo happy!!!!!

I got this email confirming June 23rd as well. My iPhone still shows it is in Anchorage, AK as well.
I think this Wednesday June 23rd delivery is genius of Apple. This way the activations will not be completely bottlenecked on Thursdays. They can be staggered with some (mail pre-orders) activating new iPhone 4's on Wednesday and others picking up in the stores activating on Thursday.
I imagine it will still be quite congested and delayed to activate but it may be much better!

Maybe this is Apple's way of saying "I'm sorry" for the insane pre-order process last week. If so, then they are doing a great thing for the customers :)
Apple sent me an email saying June 23. Went to my order status and clicked on the tracking number. Fedex says June 24th by 4:30. WTF???!!!

Trying not to get my hopes up cuz it would seem hard to get it to Cincinnati by tomorrow. I too would like to see some kind of confirmation from Apple that these are real emails. I had someone staying home on Thursday to sign for the package and if I need to switch to tomorrow I can, but would feel bad if I asked them to stay home tomorrow if it's not really gonna show up!

My FedEx tracking said the 23rd yesterday. I figured it would change, but then I got that email last night! My phone is in AK and I am in WA so noon tomorrow should be possible... It is so cool because I am flying out Wednesday night and I was bummed that I wouldn't actually get to use my new iPhone until next week... But now, I may be able to take it with me! Activation better not take too long...
boo my ups package is in agent pickup from memphis, and no estimated delivery date. Oh wells if I get it a day early cool, if not ill get it on launch
I ordered from the AT&T store in the evening after a day of failed attempts on-line. I was given an estimate of the 25th through the 2nd, but the tracking now says it will be at the store on the 23rd by 3pm. Woo Hoo!
Maybe Apple is trying to make up for the frustrations on the 15th.

I received this email as well, and I would wager this is a response from Apple to Order-geddon last week. Server requests will now be spread over 3 days - 23rd for delivered units , 24th for in-store pickups, and 25th for non-Apple deliveries - which should help avoid another meltdown.

I can say with 100% certainty that 120,000 iphones will be delivered today alone by UPS to storefronts.
I pre-ordered the morning of the 15th and got a confirmation email but haven't received anything else since. AT&T status still shows my phone as processing. I am not happy.

I got the email, I got the fedex delivery date of 23rd, but my package is in Alaska! I'm in Mississippi, so that puppy is gonna have to FLY to get here by 10:30 am tomorrow!! fingers crossed

My AT&T preorder also says I will receive it on the 23rd, so it's more my guess all pre-orders (from the 15th?) will go for the 23rd (if this is true), then maybe in-stores for the 24th, and then pre-orders (made after the 15th) go 24th onward?

Though FedEx tracking indicates that my AT&T order has not yet been picked up, it states that it will deliver on 6/23. I'm skeptical and bummed if it happens as I won't be home to accept delivery and probably won't be able to go pick it up from FedEx after work as I have a prior commitment.

I also got this email, my fedex tracking had an estimated delivery date of the 23rd from the get go. @dubbdee, there's a form you can get from the apple site to pre sign for it and you can indicate where you'd like the package to be left if you'd like. The link should be in the first email you got with the tracking #, it's right by the track shipment link.
I didn't get an email, but my iPhone is already at my local UPS (Louisville). Hopefully it gets delivered tomorrow.
One thing I forgot to mention: i didn't order mine until 6:45 pm central time. So, the whole "those of you lucky enough to get the order in early" thing doesn't fly in my case. I was one of the last ones to get my order in before they changed to the later ship date of July 2. I am feeling lucky. I'll feel better when I have it in my hands!
@Tommy: I recently bought a 2010 Macbook from Apple's online store and it came from Shenzhen, China via Alaska through Fedex and arrived at my front door in Florida before 10:30am within 48 hours so it is possible the phones will arrive tomorrow.
My iPhone is also seemingly still waiting in Alaska unless the tracking details simply haven't updated yet. Their website isn't really clear when it arrives or leaves a location and we might find it has arrived in our state later today.
According to FedEx, updated just now, mine is in Fort Worth, TX and still scheduled for delivery by 3pm on the 23rd...
Quick question...Are all iPhone cases compatible with eachother? I know the iPhone 4 is slightly slimmer, but would that have an effect on a case?

I wouldn't order anything unless it specifically states it's for the iPhone 4. None of the previous cases will fit the new body. I pre-ordered a film from Power Support and their description states "New formula is more compatible with high definition screens." So I would only order a screen protector design for the 4.

I ordered my iPhone 4 on the 15th at 8:00 pm, kinda late in the day. I checked my order this morning @ ATT web site and says that mine shipped yesterdey 6/21 with overnight delivery. I checked UPS web site, but it does not give other information than in transit. I hope i get it today.
@Max Bloom: Also, remember: iPhone 4 has a new camera on the front and a flash on the back - old cases won't have cutouts for these features either. I'm waiting a bit til better cases are announced.

Still no word from AT&T after confirming that my order was received. All I know is the my order is "In Progress" with no ship date.

I ordered my iPhone 4 from an AT&T store for delivery to my home. Last night (Monday night), I received a tracking number through AT&T's website but couldn't track anything. Today I checked my tracking number and it shows only "Billing Information Received" but the shipping method is "Next Day Air Saver". Basically, this means it was packaged to ship yesterday, but won't go out until today, which means it should be in my hands tomorrow. WOOT!!!
FedEx tracking now indicates that mine was picked up in Fort Worth, TX, sooooooo.......very possible it will be delivered today. Now I need to figure out how to get it delivered to someone tomorrow so I don't need to wait the extra day. Hmmmm.....

I got that exact email. From the very first, all delivery dates have been the 23rd. The original confirmation email, the FedEx tracking page, and now the second delivery alert email from Apple all indicated delivery on the 23rd. I'm starting to believe it now!
FedEx site at 10:30AM PST 6/22 says package is "in transit" from Anchorage AK. Looks like that's the shortest flight from Hong Kong to anywhere in the U.S. (with the possible exception of Hawaii, depending on great circle distance). And from Alaska, FedEx could centralize all shipments to western Canada and the western US. Interesting.
Spreading 600,000 activations across the largest possible number of days seems to be a good move. Especially since U.S. customers will be dealing with AT&T...

I'm definitely not trying to be rude, but how does this e-mail indicate that customers were able to pick up on the 23rd?
I might have read incorrectly, but it just seems as if this e-mail is for home deliveries and not for in-store pick up or reservation.
I'm sure I'm just bitter because I'll have to brave the lines Thursday morning -_-

I ordered mine directly through at&t and I received my email notification this morning. Tracking it with FedEx shows it it scheduled for delivery tomorrow by 3pm. I've never noticed a specific time frame when tracking FedEx before... I am still expecting to wait until Thursday, but I'm told I'll have it tomorrow.
We shall see.

I ordered through AT&T as well on June 15th. Received email notification this morning. When I track with FedEx.com, it does not come up in their system. I called FedEx customer service and she was able to look up my tracking info. Customer service rep told me that there was one scan on my package and that the instructions on the label called for the package to start its delivery phase on June 23rd. Seems like that will also be the day when I will be able to track its progress through their website. So for all of you who are in the same boat as me with their orders through AT&T ...
My AT&T pre-order, shipped via FedEx, is now "In Transit" in Memphis, TN, with a delivery date of June 23rd, by 3:00pm.

My iPhone is currently in ANCHORAGE, AK. I got the June 23rd E-mail too so I spoke to my FedEx man this morning. This is what he said-
"We haven't received any notifications of holding the phones for June 24th, so i'm pretty sure you'll get it tomorrow."

i ordered mine on june 15 @ 2am thru AT&T my fed ex tracking shows in-route to deliver on 6/23 by 3pm also. Im in stockton ca, I think apple is trying to avoid another disaster on the 24th like with the whole pre-order mess. my thought is this will ease tension on the retailers trying to activate all the new iphone on th 24th. im also hearing some Walmarts have already received their shipments. the internet seems to comfirm this!

I pre-ordered and received tracking from Fed-Ex that said 06-24 delivery. I did receive that e-mail from Apple and sure enough, it was at my door yesterday afternoon. Activation was a breeze, no wait at all !! Amazing, no waiting in line or activation problems like with my 3G.

Throughout this grand design of things you actually receive an A+ with regard to effort. Where you lost me was in the particulars. As it is said, the devil is in the details... And that couldn't be more true here. Having said that, permit me say to you what did deliver the results. The text is actually rather convincing and this is probably the reason why I am taking the effort to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, even though I can notice a leaps in logic you make, I am not sure of exactly how you seem to connect the details which in turn make the final result. For right now I will subscribe to your position however wish in the future you actually connect the facts much better.
