Apple release three new "if you don't have an iPhone..." ads
Apple has added three new iPhone ads to its website and YouTube channel with the new hook, “If you don’t have an iPhone”. The three ads all focus on different features, first up is the App Store showing a flight check in app. The second ad is aimed at iPod and iTunes features and the final ad focuses on iBooks. All the ads end with “Yup, if you don’t have an iPhone, well, you don’t have an iPhone.”
The three videos are after the break, let us know what you think of them in the comments!

If you don't have a iphone. Well you don't have a iphone.
I don’t get it. He is just saying something like this:
“well, if you don’t have milk; then you don’t have milk.”
Of course I don’t have milk if I don’t have milk!!
Tell me about “trying to hard”.
Sent from my milk.. I mean iPhone
I have an iPhone 4, and am very happy with it, but I find these ads really obnoxious because they come across as arrogant and condescending--both the tone of voice and choice of words.
ya. it's apple
And how does this differ from Sprint's "The best smartphone" ad which has a little annoying green Android (cousin to Lloyd from A.C.)? Or the multitude of Verizon Droid commercials? Or Moto's new Xoom commerical touting "Android 3.0?" (like that actually means something to an end-consumer).
One thing I have always enjoyed about Apple commercials is that they actually SHOW the device being used and highlight the items that Apple wants the consumer to know about (ie. Apps, Retina Display, Facetime, etc).
In the ad space, if you have a competitive advantage and in this case, apps are being showcased, you can afford to be a little "cocky". Apple has earned it and we as consumers have made it successful.
Because they don't try to make these obtuse claims like Apple does. I mean really, iBooks? How many owners of iDevices actually use iBooks for regular purchases and reading rather than Kindle or even Nook? I'm sure there might be a couple of people who could pop up here and say they do but in the mass population of iOS users, how many are there actually? I know I'm not one of them.
That's because they're too busy showing people turning into robots and robots having thumbs surgically inplanted in back alleys :).
I don't think he said Sprint's commercials were any less cocky. Bringing up a competitor is just a cheap attempt at diverting attention away from his valid opinion.
Besides the fact that Apple screwed me over by ruining my iPhone with their crap iOS 4 upgrade, I'd agree that these ads are arrogant and obnoxious, much like Apple itself has become. And frankly, I've been MUCH happier since I dumped iPhone altogether, as the Windows Phone 7 device is, though still lacking a few items that irk me, a much more polished user experience, is much faster and far easier to deal with.
I used to be an Apple evangelist, but their arrogance, poor treatment of customers and outright dishonesty has pushed me away for good. I won't be coming back into the Apple fold for any device with the possible exception of an iPad--and even that depends on how well Sony delivers with their PlayStation tablet later this year.
lol. u r dumb. you went with a windows 7 phone...fail.
jajaja, windows 7, you are kidding right?
And your on a website about the iphone?? Go troll somewhere else. You lost your credibility mentioning windows phone 7
I liken apple to Deion sanders. everybody knew he was the best, most dynamic, freak of a specimen out there, especially himself. the cockiness rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but in the end, he was still the best at what he was doing.
That's an interesting way to look at it.
Ignore the fanatics, i love my windows phone 7 and I love my iphone 4 almost as much as well. Both great platforms :)
Is it me or do the hands holding the phone look creepy? Almost fake.
Sort of noticed that too. But, that is just the magnificent talent of the hand model. Perfect stillness.
If you do have an iPhone, you probably now want to jump the the Atrix 4G.
Tried it...dumped it...re-activated the iPhone 4. The Atrix had the potential to be an AMAZING phone, but by locking it down in the way they did, ATT and Motorola just crippled it for me. My jailbroken iPhone > Locked down Atrix.
I actually switched to the Atrix and it is not as bad as you make it seem. The Android experience has been quite nice and the speed and the way it runs is just as fast if not faster than the iPhone. Once it was rooted and modified it made it even that much better.
I wouldn't bet he ever even HAD an Atrix. If he had, he'd have unlocked it (which is EASY, as it always is with Android) and probably loved it. The Atrix's hardware is VASTLY superior to iPhone 4 :p
I just take issue with his statement that his jailbroken iPhone is far superior to the Atrix. I have my Atrix rooted and I don't think there is anything a jailbroken iPhone can do that I can't. The majority of jailbreak tweaks I am able to do from the box. I'm not hating on the iPhone as I had one for 2 years and wrote for TiPb. Just providing another perspective on the issues. I still love Apple products but there are other good products in the world as well.
Seems like this is Apple's version of the "Droid does" campaign, but honestly while I've preferred Apple's ads because they actually show what the phone can do, these seem played out and show a lack of innovation. Focus on build quality and screen resolution, where the iphone has a real advantage over its competitors.
They already have....

One of Verizon's first commercials spent the majority of time showcasing the iPhone 4's lines.

I think that's missing the point. Consumers for the most part don't care about that techie stuff. They want to know what the phone can DO. And Apple has usually been pretty good in their phone commercials showing just that.
Wrong. 18 year old college girls want the same phone as all their soro sisters, so they can all talk about their iPhones. Face it. People want what they can't have. I want to date my good friends ex, just because I can't. Just like it was for a while with verizon, now you can follow the jones. So get a iPhone
The should show when it starts seizing up after a couple of update cycles when you're trying to interact with their app store. And no, a factory restore doesn't fix the problem.
If you don't have an iPhone, please tell us how you found a way to breathe on Mars.
with an Android app, me and the other several million people up here on mars are looking down on you with disappointment that you haven't joined us. Much more fun on the red planet.
I have an iPod Touch 2 and an Ipad 1 - I don't have an iPhone
But I still have an app store, an iPod and iBooks. I have all the things they tell me I don't have. But I still don't have an iPhone.
I agree with the majority of the people here...these 3 commercials are a little silly. Maybe not so much the app store one, but it seems a little to obnoxious
I love the Wiz Khalifa spotting in the iTunes iPhone Ad. Yea! I see you Apple.
Random Thought: I wonder what it would be like to smoke w/good ol' Steve Jobs. Jobs, Khalifa, Clinton, Gates, & Me! That would be a sweet lil' smoking party. :-)
hm, I have a 3GS and if an app-loaded iphone 4 really downloads apps that quickly and loads aps so cleanly is a few milliseconds, then I think I might want an iphone 4 after all! I'm kinda hoping it's the usual "idealized" world that shows up in the ads and not actual phone performance because then I'll lose a bit of love for my otherwise awesome 3GS
"Sequences shortened". I have both and the 3GS is just as fast as the 4 with the added resolution.
A rare set of clunkers from usually outstanding Apple marketing.
If you are that much of an android fan why are you on an i os fan site just wondering way to keep up on the great site tipb.com
Ads are lame. Apple usually can do better than that. The music drives you a little nuts.
I have an iPhone 3G and I'm getting a htc desire hd at the end of the month, I'd get an iPhone 4 but I don't like the antenna problem, if they sorted that I'd get next years iPhone, apple also need to sort out iOS, it needs better notifications and some more features, like a people app, that shows Facebook updates and stuff as well.
Get the Desire - you'll love it!
I am not a fan of flash, but we are stuck with it for a lot of digital magazines. I hate to crank up the computer to read my digital media. Yea I know there is a great selection of great media not flash, but this "you need flash to read, or watch" is getting irritating. You would think Apple, and Adobe would work it out. Sorry to get on a soap box.
I've heard that Adobe is working on both a compile time and possibly a realtime Flash to HTML5 transcoding system. We'll have to see what surfaces. If it's the latter, I'll laugh if they try to off load enough of the processing to the mobile device to make it slow down those iDevices even more than if they were just running native Flash support.
I made the switch to Android and was worried about the whole flash loading and bugging the device down. I'm actually pleased with the experience thus far especially since there is a mod to run Hulu videos from their site onto my phone for free haha. I am actually enjoying seeing the entire web. Yes flash causes a little bit slower load time but I'm 27 years old not about to die so if a site takes a few more seconds to load I'll be ok haha. Apple needs to just give up and allow flash with an option to just disable it if users don't want it.
I don't have an iPhone (and before anyone flames me I'm on an iDevice forum because I have an iPad)... but I certainly do have my music and playlists on my phone in my pocket. I do have my favourite books on Kindle on my phone in my pocket, and an entire bookstore for it on the mobile web. I can't pay for my coffee, but isn't that the app that people took screenshots of the barcode and cloned them...?
Good product. Bad (and factually incorrect) ad
my iphone never downloads apps as fast as they did on the first video :(
But it does kick you out of the app store needlessly to show you the app downloading, like in the video.
Man, I hate that.
Ummm - still no ads touting the iPhone as, you know, a phone?
Granted, all of Apple's handheld devices are - as far as they are concerned - content delivery devices for their App Store (and the only significant Press on the iPhone 4 as a phone was not great - see, antennae issues), but not even a passing reference to the device as a phone?
These could just as well be ads for the Touch only.
Apple leaves the "phone" ads to the carriers.
I don't get it. He is just saying something like this:
"well, if you don't have milk; then you don't have milk."
Of course I don't have milk if I don't have milk!!
Tell me about "trying to hard".
More like, "if you don't have skim milk, you don't have skim milk."
I have an iPhone4, and to be honest I'd probably be happier if I didn't.
It doesn't work with anything: bluetooth data in car, phonebook, music. It's useless if I can't play my MUSIC....
"if you dont have an iphone 4... who really cares" it what it should say.
I actually like the commercial Apple makes. I actually never really see them very often except that Verizon iphone commercial with the guy and the anniversary.
Honestly it is not as bad as some people have made it out to be. And like mentioned above, it actually shows key features of the phone while telling you about. The droid commercials go for the cool factor while the Sprint commercial for the Evo/Evo shift are highly boring and even tmobile's mytouch commercial(and the galaxy s 4g) are way too cutesy for my taste and overplayed. Apple has great marketing and makes me want to buy an iphone because the commercials are cute and actually showcase the phone and it's features. And this is coming from a Windows Phone 7(and occasional android) fangirl. Now Windows phone 7 has some killer marketing with their phones, i think but i loved these 3 from Apple. Just hate the guys voice
Apple is just showing what you can do with an iPhone. If you don't have an iphone, you don't have itunes, or ibooks or the app store in your pocket. (unless you have an iPod Touch). I see no arrogance in showing off key features of it's own product.
Exactly! I don't need iTunes to copy files to/from my Droid. I don't need anything but a cord!
For the record, my previous WinMo phone was the same. I sure didn't need WMP to transfer files...
First video is really attractive and makes you feel bad if really dont have iphone but other videos are just ok,apple can really do better than this.
The arrogance and condescension comes from the last line of the commercial. Instead of ending with a word of enticement it basically sounds stand offish and incredibly Jonesy which is a major complaint I have about the Apple subculture. It really is JUST that last line. It's a poorly worded. They spend 28 seconds showing the phone, showing the features, and explaining their advantage. Then, at the end, they seemingly rub your nose in it with one line.
I don't have an iPhone because I have an Android. Check out all the extra things I can do as a result!
HTC Desire Z > iAnything
Even my old Hero kicked the iPhone's ass.
These iCommercials are hilarious. Even BBs can basically do what an iPhone can. Another year or two, Apple will be left behind as usual due to Stevo's ignorance and arrogance.
