Control video playpack with Movie Remote Kids for iPhone and iPad

Unique App LLP, has released their iOS to iOS movie remote control, Movie Remote Kids.

  • Choose which movie to play from your library list
  • Control volume
  • Pause or stop a movie
  • Skip to any point using the scrub bar
  • Confirmation prompts to avoid mistakes and annoying the kids!
  • Kids have no controls on the 'Player' device
  • Works on iPhone, iPad or iPod
  • Easy to setup, single app can be both 'Controller' and 'Player'
  • Effectively creates parental control over movies viewed on a device

This app does exactly what it claims to do and does it well. Unfortunately, due to Apple's restrictions, you have to add videos to the app via iTunes connect, but once you do, you'll all set and ready to go.

Movie Remote Kids is available for $2.99. Screenshots after the break.

Just read on their website that you'll soon be able to have controls on the player too by using a PIN and also files will resume from where they last stopped :-)

Wow, great app and something I've been looking for for ages. Very slick and works well. Look forward to the forthcoming updates.

I agree with your comment on being able to access the iTunes video's but as the article suggest it seems that Apple don't allow it. That said the developers have stated there's an update coming that will allow for access to controls on the player device hidden behind a pin, so in effect it will/can be just like the Apple video app. I think when that update comes I'll just move all my files into this app as it will handle both scenarios. We just did a run to the mall and back and my wife was controlling everything from the passenger seat, normally she either reaches round and struggles to change things, or she sits in the back. Not any more!!

Thanks for all the comments and hope you're enjoying the app. To confirm, we're unable to access any videos that are within the iPod or Videos apps as Apple don't allow such access from another app. As mentioned we're also developing v1.1 and this should be out soon as we're just waiting on approval from Apple. If you've got any issues or feedback then please get in touch as we're keen to get the app as good as it can be... Thanks, Unique App

Any plans to support AirPlay? If I need to move my video content to this app I would need AirPlay support as I use that at home with my Apple TV!

I have loaded my movies onto the controller, Bluetooth is enabled on both the iPad and the ITouch, and both devices show that they are in connection...with the iTouch as the controller and the iPad as the receiver. However, when I push the play button on the controller nothing happens on the iPad, even though the controller indicates that the movie is playing. I'm very disappointed!

This is Star again. The technical support for this app is SUPERIOR! They were in touch with me immediately, and tirelessly worked with me until we finally identified the problem. Not only that, they suggested other apps to help me easily get my movies into the proper formats to work on all my devices. Movie Remote Kids now works perfectly with my iPad and my iTouch, and I am very satisfied. Thank you tech support for all of your help!
What I was looking for in an app was the ability to show my PowerPoint presentations, with all animations working, that I could remotely pause and resume. Using a screen capture program, I filmed my presentations...putting them into a movie format and then, through iTunes, adding them into the Movie Remote Kids app. Now I have full control of my presentations, with all of my beautiful animations and graphics intact, that I can fully remote control. Yes!!!

My wife and i got very delighted John could carry out his basic rceearsh because of the ideas he came across out of your site. It is now and again perplexing to just find yourself giving away secrets and techniques many people could have been trying to sell. And we all know we now have the writer to appreciate for that. These illustrations you made, the easy site navigation, the friendships you help foster it's got most incredible, and it's really facilitating our son in addition to our family believe that that topic is entertaining, and that is especially serious. Thanks for the whole lot!
