MyWi updated with support for iOS 5 [jailbreak]

Popular tethering app MyWi recently received an update that adds compatibility for iOS 5. f you don't currently own MyWi you can install a trial via Cydia. You'll have 3 days to test it out in demo mode. After that you can purchase MyWi for a one time purchase of $19.99 when the trial expires.

It's worth noting that carriers typically frown upon the use of unauthorized tethering apps. Some have even taken matters into their own hands. So if you're an extremely heavy data user, you'd probably be better off just adding a tethering plan through your carrier.

We just saw BiteSMS receive a beta update adding iOS 5 compatibility as well. As we see the official iOS 5 launch get closer we will start to see even more jailbreak apps receive updates.

Anyone received any letters from their carriers because of using this??

Scotty says:

Ive used it for both VZ and Tmob, have never had an issue. best 20 I've ever spent

Jellis1414 says:

Yes... I have received a letter and a text just like Gordon talked about. I never responded to either one of them, just have not used it since then. Nothing has happend since then. This was about 1 -2 months ago.
But they are finding out some how or another... so be carefull if you have ATT.

Chris McKinney says:

I have been tethering for 3 years now (since the iPhone 3G) and have never had any threats from AT&T.

Gordon Lu says:

I was threatened by AT&T via text and email. After calling them as instructed, they informed me that they will remove the flag on my account and the threat of forcing me into their tethering plan if I restore my phone and stop tethering.
All I did was remove mywi and now I use PdaNet. Works just as well and has the hide usage feature so ATT can't detect me. It basically makes your laptop browser work like a mobile browser but it's better than not being able to tether at all.
I use about 5-8GB of data a month.

Every time one of these iPhone blogs enthuses about MyWi I post a comment to the effect that I've been using zsrelay to tether since way before MyWi was released. It's FREE & has worked perfectly well for me for years. I guess MyWi pay you guys to plug their software over the free alternatives which I completely understand but it still bugs me that you're in it for dollar & not to help your readers. Admittedly it takes 10 mins to set up but if I can do it then anyone can. And you only need to set it up the once.
