Apple working on curved-glass display for the iPhone 6 in 2012?

Randomly accurate rumor site Digitimes is once again beating the drum on rumors they spurred up back in May about Apple prepping a curved-glass design across iOS devices including the iPhone 6 for 2012.

Apple reportedly also has bought glass polishing equipment for its suppliers in preparation for the production of devices fitted with curved cover glass. Lens Technology, Fuji Crystal, G-Tech are said to be major cover glass suppliers of Apple. While Lens and Fuji focus on iPhones, G-Tech supplies mainly for iPad

As always with rumors from Digitimes we urge you to take this with a 3.5-inch grain of salt. Apple supposedly purchased upwards of 300 glass cutting machines earlier in the year that they've stored in warehouses until production yield rates meet their requirements, and glass makers have had a hard time entertaining the idea of producing curved glass for Apple because of capital costs.

We'll have to wait until next year before we see if Apple pushes out an iPhone with a curved-glass display... or if they're just using them for all the windows on their new mothership HQ.

Apple shifting iPad 2 production to new Brazilian plant?

Sandy says:

Screw the curved glass. If they want to fend off Android, try putting some SBsettings and quick reply in the OS!

Nick Powers says:

Guarantee you their curved-glass machines are for nothing other than their new campus. Sure, they might repurpose them into something else after finishing construction (and might use them in production/construction of new Apple Store locations), but I'd have a hard time fathoming that they'd be for anything iDevice related. Curved glass on a touch-based device would seem to be less than ideal, functionally.

Mgar88 says:

I agree with you. But I think the possibility remains that they may be interested in using curved glass displays for desktop purposes.

lets get the Iphone 5 in our hands before we start in on the Iphone 6 rumors.

Curved display?! What an innovative idea!
You know, because Google and Samsung totally haven't already done it: http://pocketnow.com/android/what-is-the-contour-display-on-the-nexus-s

Jon says:

Just.... WHY???? We had curved displays before on monitors/tvs... FLAT SCREENS were developed as an IMPROVEMENT!

Damienpena23 says:

Iphone 6 ?! I'm already searching up the iphone 7 :D LOL

Mjh937 says:

I have owned monitors and TV's with curved screens. I agree with Jon. The flat screens I have now are better. Why do we want to go back to curved ones?

Nor says:

I can't wait for the all-glass iphone with 3-d photonic circuitry etched into the prism.
There. Unless they've already filed it, Apple can't patent it now.

Mike says:

I was taking the pi$$
Couldn't care what they call it, can't believe 6 rumours are out before the 4s or 5 has even been announced.
