Steve Jobs worked on Apple's next product until the day before he passed away

PCMag notes that Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son revealed in an interview with the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, John Roos, that Apple CEO Steve Jobs was working on Apple's next big product up until the day before his passing.

"I visited Apple for the announcement of the iPhone 4S [at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California]. When I was having a meeting with Tim Cook, he said, 'Oh Masa, sorry I have to quit our meeting.' I said, 'Where are you going?' He said, 'My boss is calling me.' That was the day of the announcement of the iPhone 4S. He said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died."

Really, could it have been otherwise?

Steve Jobs worked on Apple's next product until the day before he passed away

It's hard to tell from that quote if he wasn't just saying that because Apple wasn't ready to make Steve's failing health public yet. Nevertheless, I certainly don't doubt Steve's work ethic so it's entirely possible.

Sorry folks, I fail to see what's so admirable about this for a man with wife and four children.
Following his passion I guess, but even then...

There's something worthy of a certain sort of respect in his drive and dedication, but certainly it should not be something that society values over and above a dedication to family.

On the other hand it should be noted that we don't know how much time Jobs actually spent worrying about the company on that day. I imagine he and Cook were close; if so time spent with him on Jobs' penultimate day would not be time ill spent.

If you can't think of anything admirable about Steve Jobs, maybe you should shut down your computer and disconnect yourself from the technology world. Just because he was dedicated to his work does not mean that he did not spend time with his family.

I can think of plenty to admire and plenty not to admire about Steve Jobs, a complex personality to say the least. That was not the point.
