iOS 6 banners start going up at Moscone Center in preparation for WWDC

We're about as ready as we'll ever be for WWDC next week, and though the announcement of iOS 6 was actually little more than a safe bet so far, banners at the Moscone Center confirm that Apple will be announcing their next-generation mobile operating system next week. It's being labeled as "the world's most advanced mobile operating system" and comes along with a new fingerprint-styled icon.

The real fun will be when we find out what exactly is stored inside iOS 6. A revamped maps application powered by Apple (rather than Google) seems like it will be the big addition, but we're also expecting to see some extensive Facebook integration. We might even get Siri on the iPad, and a bunch of smaller things, like cloud-stored  browser tabs and a "do not disturb" switch for Notification Center.

It'll be a hell of a show, and we'll have both Rene and Leanna on the ground floor catching all of the news. What would you guys like to see most from iOS 6, or WWDC for that matter? What would iOS 6 have to do to truly be "the world's most advanced mobile operating system"?  Does iOS 5 already claim that throne?

I can't think of anything that would really make IOS 6 a no brainer must have over IOS 5... Everything mentioned so far ranges from "that's interesting" to "meh" to me.

kch50428 says:

But you have yet to hear/see that famous "one last thing..." :D

evilsofa says:

Yea, One Last Thing.... Were buying RIM hahaha

kch50428 says:

Actually, it would be killer if they bought out Nokia - because guess what Nokia also owns? Map provider Navteq - that would be an epic "one more thing"... :)

Ha ha ha ha ha! I think I just peed a little! Too funny.
Seriously though, iOS6 will have to be absolutely spectacular for me to give up my jailbreak. I've been waiting, it seems, forever to get a JB for 5.1.1 so it's going to have to be really, really special to give it up.

One more thing... Instead of continuing to sue, we're going to, over the next few years, purchase Google, followed by Samsung, followed by HTC, followed by LG. Then we'll just have a monopoly, besides Microsoft's 5%.
Haha nahh but wouldn't that make some jaws drop?!
As much as I'd like to see a "One more thing...", I'm afraid those days are most likely over... that was very much a Steve thing and I don't see Tim Cook or Phil Schiller or Scott Forstall or Jony Ive or any of the others being able to pull off a great "One more thing..." like Steve did many times.

I'm with you...none of this will be worth getting rid of the jailbreak. Give me webOS-style gestures and something like its cards, then I'll get excited.

mjcarter says:

I'm with you on that. Coming from WebOS to iOS I surely miss my gestures and cards. Those two features would push iOS over the top and would truly make it the best OS.

Simone great job reporting. You are always writing the top stories.

Please make third party accessories work with iOS6. I know when iOS5 came out, some things just bought were not compatibitle. Then the finger pointing started. It's not our device, it is iOS 5, Apple states no it is the device. This is still going in now, after the new iPad came out. Slowly devices, and accoessories are starting to work with the new iPad, and iOS 5.1.1.iOS6 needs to work also.

SpasticPat says:

If you look at the 6, as someone on another forum commented, it looks like it's submerged under water with just the stem/top part sticking out:

Do you think that means anything?

Yngwie says:

Yep that's the follow up to iCloud : iSea

Johnny Appleseed says:

Actually right where the colors change it kinda looks like the Beats by Dre logo. Im betting we are getting a better speaker!
No but seriously i think it resembles the two tone colors on the rumored iPhone 5. Might have something to do with the new design.

The ONE thing I need for business is more PRIVACY. I need my messages to come in as just an envelope like on Android. Then when I unlock my phone I can see who the text is actually from. My clients are fierce competitors and I don't need them seeing a text come in from each other. This is the main reason I'm jailbroken and use BITESMS. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the privacy works!! For me to leave my jailbreak, IOS6 would really have to knock my socks off before switching!

Yngwie says:

Nothing wrong with fierce competitive clients. If anything if they see their competition contacting you , then it should be in your advantage ;)

Rick says:

Anyone think the Iphone 4 might get siri? I personally think the only reason it didn't have it was to sell more Iphone 4s's, since the Iphone 4s wasn't that amazing of an upgrade in most peoples eyes.

Vanti says:

I'm preety sure that the Ip4 will not be getting Siri just for that simple fact. Having Siri was another " feature" which drove the sales of the 4s and I don't think they would ever port it to the 4 because it somewhat defeats the purpose.

Yngwie says:

But the 4s sales are down now since launch. Now with Siri on iPhone 4, they could give it one last boost before the next iPhone is released

TiNuts says:

I'd like "one more thing. . . Text/email tones no longer go off in your ear when you're on the phone."

Sandman619 says:

iOS 6 is a safe bet these days. Apple has already stated that the iOS release schedule is a new version each year. In fact, Apple has also said that OS X will see a new version annually as well. These are safe bets, for now. Apple likes to have a schedule, usually
