Apple extends complimentary iCloud storage upgrades until September 2013

Apple has been emailing previous MobileMe customers, including iMore's own writer-at-large, Chad Garrett, informing them that complimentary storage boost they received during the iCloud transition has been extended again, this time until September 2013. Here's the email:

When you moved your MobileMe account to iCloud, we provided you with a complimentary storage upgrade beyond the standard 5GB that comes with an iCloud account to help you with the transition. Originally, this storage upgrade was set to expire on September 30, 2012.

As a thank you to our former MobileMe members, we will continue to provide you with this complimentary storage upgrade at no charge, for an additional year, until September 30, 2013. No action is required on your part. For complete details, please read this article.

Thank you again for using iCloud,

There was some confusion/elation last week when a glitch caused the iCloud accounts of previous MobileMe subscribers to read 2050, but alas the real extension turns out to be far more temporally conservative.

Still, a nice to have. Anyone else get their extension letter yet?

Apple extends complimentary iCloud storage upgrades until September 2013

Yup. Got the email about 7:10 pm eastern.

Also confirmed the iCloud storage page in iOS now says 09/30/13 as opposed to 09/30/50.

Did not get the email but after reading your article just checked and yes it says 09/30/2013. I had talked to Apple and they promised to resolve the issue in one week's time and they did. Thanks for your article Rene and my compliments to your whole team. I don't even check with apple site or anywhere else anymore. Just read imore.

I got mine at 7:42 Eastern. And my date says 2013 (mine never said 2050).

5GB of storage for multiple devices is just a little small. If I registered a iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro and a desktop they'd give me 20GB, but since I want to combine them, they don't give me any extra? How does that fit into their accounting practices?

And if I buy a 64GB iPad / iPhone, it seems like it should include some more iCloud storage. Especially since this is a "Post PC" world and many people don't have any place else to back up these devices...

I'm just not sure why? We've already emptied our iDisk and MobileMe Photos (and iWeb?). What are they really replacing? Especially those with no iDevices? What are they doing with 20GB extra of iCloud?

Sorry Rene... I was a Mobile Me user for a year and a half and haven't received anything!! Looks like this is 'selective'...

What if you check your settings for the expiration date?

And just out of curiosity, were you over the the 5GB free space already?

Got my email last night at 10:13 EST, I am in the Toronto area. I also had had the 2050 show on it last week.

So I am a former MobileMe user, with the email as my iCloud account email and all. Just realized that I dont have the complementary storage and probably never did. Did I miss having to do something to get it?/can I still?
