How to launch apps using Siri

How to launch apps using Siri

With iOS 6, Apple's personal digital assistant, Siri, can now launch your apps for you as well. Instead of scouring your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or iPad mini Home screen, or digging through folders, for that app you know you have but just can's find, as long as you remember its name, you can open it with Siri and a word.

  1. Press and hold down the Home button on your iPhone or iPad to activate Siri.
  2. Tell Siri to "Open Facebook." or "Launch Safari."
  3. If you didn't say the complete name, or if Siri finds more than one match, it will present you with a list of matching apps.
  4. Either say the complete name or tap the proper app.
  5. Wait for Siri to launch you app.

There's really a tutorial for this?

NickA says:

Yes. Not everyone has your superior intelligence :)

You would be surprised the number of people that use about 10% of what their smartphone can actually do.

I confess that I had heard that you could launch FaceBook via Siri and that later on other apps would do the same. It is a great way to launch an app and I am glad to find this out.

Anyone have a solution to launch the app Waze? It's the one I can't get to work this way. Tried pronouncing it "ways" and "way ze" but no go.

gravityron says:

I spell it out. It works.

stephen007 says:

Clever man... Thank you. Worked just fine spelling it out. Too bad *I* didn't think of that ;-D

Calistamay says:

It also works if you just say the name of the app. Like "Pandora". Works great to get the music going in my car via Bluetooth!

gravityron says:

Ok, but how about the Facebook app itself? Do I need to spell it out? Or must I make the manual (second) selection every time?

pbrockamp says:

It also works if you know where your apps are on your phone because its probably fast then waiting for Siri to launch it for you. Just speaking the truth!
