Apple releases iOS 6.0.1 and Updater for iPhone 5

Apple has released iOS 6.0.1, a bug fix revision, for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. If you're using an iPhone 5, Apple has also released an Updated for iPhone 5 which will download and run before the iOS 6.0.1 update. Here's what Apple has to say:

This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including: - Fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air - Fixes a bug where horizontal lines may be displayed across the keyboard - Fixes an issue that could cause camera flash to not go off - Improves reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks - Resolves an issue that prevents iPhone from using the cellular network in some instances - Consolidated the Use Cellular Data switch for iTunes Match - Fixes a Passcode Lock bug which sometimes allowed access to Passbook pass details from lock screen - Fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings

For information on the security content of this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222

You can update over-the-air (OTA), or you can update by connecting to iTunes and going old-school.

The iPhone5 Updater fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air...

Oddly it installs an installer app on the homescreen. You then click that to update...

I got mine for my iPhone 5. I saw the iMore tweet, refreshed and it was there LOL. That fix about not having cellular reception, I always thought it was EE but that bugs fix implies it was my phone itself..

funny, the update is for ipad too, but in the list of fixes, its all about iphone,no battery improvements listed sadly

don't really know why they have to add an icon to the home screen to update. also wish you were given a option or a way to override the 50mb cap on cellular. i have a 6gb plan. i think i would be ok to download the 70mb update.

In case you didn't bother to read above: The iPhone5 Updater fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air...

I was able to download it just fine over the air.

[edit] I'm a liar ;-) It was downloading just fine... or so I thought. Apparently it was just getting ready to download over the air and then immediately failed once the actual download part was to start.

probably to keep the same ios 6.xxxx number
there MUST be lots of little fixes too many to mention

The iPhone 5 settings said I had to connect to iTunes to update, and that worked just fine. I never had to install an updater or else it just did it by itself and took care of the rest. There was never anything on my home screen as far as I could tell.

This update completely broke the FB app for me. It crashes constantly now. I even deleted and re-installed it. Anybody else having issues?

the screen on my iphone 5 is too sensitive. it picks up touch before i even touch it. causes me to mis type words and everything, there are times to touch small things like a "like" on fb i have to hammer the screen.

Or, if you don't care one wit about Facebook, upgrade away.

By the way, Facebook is just fine on my iPhone4S and iPad3 after the update...

That doesn't make sense. Facebook was working fine for me prior to updating.
We're not talking infrequent crashes. It crashes every single time.

I haven't updated to iOS 6.0.1 yet but the Facebook app is crashing on iOS 6 on my iPod touch 5 and 4S but the app only crashes for me when I sign in and this starting happening about 2 hours ago

My Facebook app was crashing today before the update, so it's a Facebook problem. I went ahead and updated.

I will say this: for anyone else who was having an overheating issue (iPhone 5), this - for whatever reason - seems to have fixed it. Temp readings while phone was just plugged in charging read north of 104°; now constantly in 80s while engaged in "heavy" CPU usage.

For all you iPhone 5 owners that are having poor battery life.......connect your phone to your computer and back up your phone to itunes. After your phone is finished backing up, remove it and erase all content on your phone, then reconnect your phone to your computer and reinstall the backup to your phone from iTunes.
My battery life was horrible going down 20 to 30% within two hrs from a full charge. after I did this my phones battery lasts all day. As i write this now, my phone is at 60% and its been off the charger for 16+ hrs and LTE is turned on.
Try this if your having poor battery life. It should improve it.

I hope the Exchange calendar thing is really fixed. It was causing some serious issues at work.

For those that are not familiar, the Exchange meeting bug could sometimes cancel a meeting for EVERYONE if one attendee declines the invite. There were a heck of a lot of "Are we having the weekly meeting? It's not on my calendar anymore" type emails at work over this.
