Ultra Rumor: Could "iPhone video" be on Sale at Apple Stores June 8?!
Gearlive (via BGR) is reporting that Apple will not only announce the third generation "iPhone video" (that's the name they use, so we'll mirror it here) this Monday, June 8, but actually have it available for sale at Apple stores the same day.
it will be available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models. A 4GB model is in the works as well, but it won’t be available on Monday, and when it is released, it won’t be sold in Apple Stores. All the things you’ve been seeing about an auto-focus camera, compass, etc. are all true. A camera on front along with a camera on back, that is the real deal - although it may just be for you to take video of yourself, and not for iChat video communication (although that would freaking rock.) A faster processor is also a lock (although I have heard nothing on additional RAM, it would make sense.)
Gearlive basically thinks Apple was going to release in July, but are rushing it up in an effort to counteract the release of the Palm Pre tomorrow, June 6.
TiPb isn't so sure. Last year's iPhone 3G was announced at WWDC on June 9, was cleared by the FCC that same day (presumably to prevent leaks), and went on sale July 11. Could iPhone video get announced, clear FCC, and hit the streets all in one day?
Also, last year Apple announced their carrier partners at WWDC, and those carrier partners spent the next month unveiling rate plans, upgrade paths, etc. Has AT&T, or any carrier, breathed a word about an MMS plan for iPhones? A way to upgrade from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone video? Would releasing the iPhone video not create an immediate customer service nightmare for Apple and AT&T as everyone showed up, nothing but questions to ask?
We don't know. Only Apple does. We know we want it though, and figure you do too. But could Apple really release the iPhone video this Monday?!

It won't happen. They learned from their failed launch of MobileMe, the iPhone 3G and the appstore. They'll spread this one out some.

I would really wanna see how that plays off with palm pre sales.

I don't buy it although I'd love to. Like it's stated above...customer service nightmare. Sounds like Gearlive wants an upset prediction. Would be nice.

Apple is Big. Lots of branches in lots of places.
The chances that ALL of the stocking clerks in ALL of these branches can keep their mouth shut while the back room fills up with boxes and boxes of new phones is slim to none. Shippers have loose lippers too.
We would have heard about it before this.
Maybe they have exactly one phone and a pad of "Rain Checks". But even THAT would be hard to keep under wraps.
Not July. Here in Germany all those close to T-mobile are signalling a launch in the second half of june. Somewhere between june 15th and 27th should be a safe bet..
Apple can do anything so of course it can come out on Monday! but will it??

This is what im thinking, OS 3.0 on monday after the keynote and an announcement to sell the phone on friday. This will give current users time to upgrade there OS and leave activations and all that for friday! No doubt i'll be lining up!

Not true. Apple will let everyone see the pre hype is just that ( a la Vista) and then poke some fun (a la i'm a pc) and then tease the world and then when we're about to blow up from anticipation, they'll hold out another couple weeks and then BAMO!! iPhone 3!!!!

They can't rely on blog sites like TiPB and word of mouth to really build up awareness --- just speculation at most.
In regards to the Pre. I think if the release in June it will be more effective than launching the same time as the Pre. Previewing it now and releasing it later will cause people to want to hold off on getting the pre.
I won't believe this rumor until it actually happens I guess. I would much rather have the phone and OS sooner but July is too soon.
Not going to happen. It makes no sense at all. They didn't even release the new MacBooks the same day they were announced and that is something 100% handled by Apple. The phone has to deal with carriers all over the world, and people need to figure out their upgrade paths and if they are even eligible to upgrade, etc. The only thing Apple will release same day is software that can be downloaded. I feel pretty strongly that they will do this with 3.0 to combat Pre, but don't expect the hardware.
So i called my local apple store and of course the rep told me he didn't know of anything. I felt he may not have been telling the truth because he sounded nervous and kept saying that they wouldn't know anything unless it had been announced in the beginning of the year. The last thing i asked him was if it was possible for them to just randomly receive a the new phone and he said yes! so i don't know if i should camp out sunday night...

Who says that there had to be a Workdaide rollout all on the same day? The 3G was rolled out in stages an so will the next device too due to supply chain considerations. Now, will it come out Monday? I doubt it but stranger things have happened. And remember, Apple is none too pleased with the Apple alums at Palm so who knows what an angry Apple will do.
What's up with you people who don't want the Pre to be success?
Pre success is a win-win for everyone. We need Apple to stay on top of their game and if no one is there to really put up a fight then Apple won't have any incentive to innovate.
I hope the Pre sells a million the first week.

iPhone 3.0 on Monday maybe. And IF the rumor's true (IF!) the release of the models Wednesday-Friday. They can't take the spark off of snow leopard on Tuesday. And they might wait till Thursday so as not to take the fame away from anything important (if there is) on Wednesday and maybe friday for something on thursday, and of course maybe Saturday for something Friday :) I'm willing to bet Saturday (IF THE RUMOR'S TRUE!) to clear iTunes' servers for 3.0 downloads and so as not to take the attention (what's left of it anyway :) ) from snow leopard and maybe a netbook or itablet or something???

If you read the article, it reads as if this guy is just guessing the new iPhone will go on sale Monday. He cites unnamed sources and says "it appears the stars are aligning" for stores to start selling on Monday.
I think this is nothing more than one persons uneducated guess.
Well guys, OS 3.0 will be released day after WDDC and the new hardware will be ready for sale 2nd week of JULY and it is named Iphone 3.5G not Video.
The MMS plan should be made available at no additional cost. AT&T is already raping every single iPhone customer with the current data plan. We pay $20 a month for data (3G coming in June with no price increase) and her MMS texts are covered under her current texting plan. I would probably leave AT&T if they charge more money for MMS. I would hope Apple realizes how expensive the plan attached to the iPhone is and understand that they are treading shallow ground here.

Yes it is nervous time for Palm after June 8 and Palm won't be able to sell 1 million Pre in a week cause they dont have enough inventory made for LACK of money. They have only 500k
made to this date and will use any profits they make to produce more to handle the demand til end of this year. After that who knows if they are still in the smart phone game. So pray.

nah i doubt it that's what the rumors said last year about the 3g and it didn't come out same day. Apple likes to make there launch days big. but it might come out sometime in June
It's amazing how the Apple rumors snowball. Maybe some of them are true, but nobody can even say for sure that there will be a new iPhone this year.
Also, what about Snow Leopard? Why aren't people talking much about that? It could release on Monday. It's just software, and we know they've been working on it for at least a year.
Won't happen. 3.0 won't either. The latest 3.0 beta still has a lot of bugs, and they haven't started accepting 3.0 app submissions yet. They'll line up apps first, guaranteed.

We already pay 20 for unlimited texting which is a rip-off, that should include mms, we just need the phone to be able to handke it which it will with 3.0, if ATT&T tries to raise rates for mms on iphones they will start a ****storm.

Apple stopped the developer betas after 5 awhile ago and it seems like it's ready to go. They've tested push notifications already and those work. iTunes has been updated to work with 3.0 and there are already 3.0 compatable apps in the app store. Apple also won't accept any new apps unless they are compatable with 3.0 so everything IS actually ready for an imminent release of 3.0 if Apple wants.
Won't happen... The Apple Store in Menlo Park NJ is closed for renovations until June 26. Expect something on or after that date. I don't think that Apple would take any of its stores out of the equation on launch day!!

My brother works for o2 in the UK and he's being told at the moment that OS 3.0 is due for release in August!!!!

Not a rumor but indeed a fact, I spoke to a Best Buy employee who informed me the store will release the phone June 8. They already have the display locked up in the back of the store. Also an ATT store manager informed that they will be doing " a major store display and product change over Sunday night (6/7)!!

Actually, Rogers (that's in Canada ;) ) added unlimited MMS (and made texting unlimited as well) to their "iPhone Value Plans" (for $5 more a month) on June 2. So, at the very least, iPhone OS 3.0 will be released very soon.

OS 3.0 will definitely be out sometime in the next week. Apple has updated iTunes to handle it. Many apps are already 3.0 ready and Apple is still taking submissions. Plus, if 3.0 wasn't close, Apple would already have another beta out. Get ready people, I smell a Monday release.

I doubt it. But, I really wish it's true. I'm getting crazy for it already. OS, possible. Hardware, 99.9% impossible. They need time to send stocks of the iPhone to other countries too. Unless they are doing this right now or even earlier.

No. Apple won't have the new iPhone available for sale on Monday. This rumor is crazy.
However, it has been quite funny reading Truth's ever more desperate comments about the Pre. It's like watching a balloon deflate as the launch day hype fails to materialize for him.
Ya'll just need to chill and wait till monday. I do know one thing my contacts have not noticed any unusual activity as far as a freight volume increase coming out of apple recently so i believe this is all just hype.
If those new iphones would had been shipped to the stores i would know already. Trust me they can only hide them things so much
