Apple's Podcasts app updated to version 2.0, brings iOS 7 styling and playback improvements along with it

Not a fan of Apple's Podcasts app? It's OK to admit it. I've not been much of a fan of it either but that may change with the latest version. Podcasts has now been updated to version 2.0 and Apple has saw fit to go ahead and give the app an ‘a stunning, all-new design for iOS 7' while adding useful features you'll love.

The update is live now on the iTunes App Store if you're looking to dive right in but if you're interested in knowing more about what all Apple has changed, we have a nice list for you to peruse through.

Designed for iOS 7
  • Podcasts has a beautiful new look and feel that fits right in with iOS 7
  • The Podcasts Store is now located in the Featured tab, making it easier than ever to discover great podcasts
  • The new Search tab makes finding podcasts in the Podcasts Store fast and simple
  • Top Charts now shows podcasts and episodes in a simple list, so it's even easier to see what’s popular
  • You can now view your stations as a list of episodes, or group them by podcast
Stay up to date
  • Podcasts now automatically update with new episodes — even while the app is not open
  • Choose how often the Podcasts app checks for updates to get the latest episodes as soon as they become available
  • iCloud now keeps your subscriptions, stations, and play position in sync with iTunes and Apple TV
Additionally, Apple noted that this version of Podcasts also includes improvements to responsiveness and playback performance. Overall, it's a nice update and I'm quite pleased to see it. Go ahead and grab it for yourself and let us know what you all think about it in the comments.

Apple's Podcasts app updated to version 2.0, brings iOS 7 styling and playback improvements along with it

Yes - exactly the same problem here. My unplayed count badge has completely gone since upgrading :-(

Does the iCloud syncing also sync your played location within a podcast, or does it just sync which podcasts you subscribe to? It would be really slick to have my iPhone, iPad, and Mac all synced to the same "listened-to" spots within podcasts..

Yes, it syncs played position. I have been able to get both the iPhone and iPad to work but not to the Apple TV.

I was finally able to get my iPhone, MacBook, iPad AND Apple TV all to sync up. The trick seems to be that you MUST subscribe to the podcast from within iTunes. If you subscribe via iOS things get screwed up somehow. I ended up deleting all my subscriptions and starting again from iTunes - now everything is perfectly synced. ...... although that was all in the old version of the iOS app. They might have fixed things now.

No go. Tried it and still unable to get the desktop and the ATV to sync with the iOS devices.

After I manually set the order of my podcasts on my iPad, and then a podcast updates the order rearranges. I use to be able to set the order in grid mode by what I listened to most often. This was important because my iPad is mounted in my truck and I use it and the main audio playback device. I can't be looking all over to fine the podcast i want while driving. Any ideas on how to set the order and get it to stick?

What happened to the button to switch from blue-tooth headphones to the iPhone speaker? It looks like it is missing from the music app now too.

The new version just keep crashing. No matter how many time I shut off and restart the phone, it just wont work. Looks like I'm going to have to uninstall it, loose all my settings and reinstall it just to see if it fixes it. Needless to say: lame update!

Working fine here on iPad and iPhone on 7.0.3. You shouldn't lose your subscriptions as they will be in iCloud.
