BBM4ALL Video Contest - Make a kick ass BBM commercial and you could win a trip to Toronto and visit to BlackBerry HQ!

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is now cross-platform, and that means my good friend (and boss) Kevin Michaluk can now torment keep in touch with everyone at iMore and Android Central, all from one app. With over 20 million iOS and Android users added to the BlackBerry Base, I've got everyone from old friends to old colleages BBM'ing now. BlackBerry is obviously thrilled, and to show how thrilled they are, they're teaming up with Mobile Nations to do something decidedly awesome. It's BBM4ALL, Mobile Nations style! And it's where you come in! Yup - CONTEST TIME! Here's your chance to show your love for BBM and to help spread the word that BBM is not only the best messenger available on BlackBerry, but Android and iPhone as well.

What You Need to Do

Create a video ad showing off cross-platform BBM. You're essentially creating a TV commercial so you need to get the message across and do it well. Show BBM chats, file sharing, groups, delivery and read notifications -- whatever you want. The goal is to make people want to run to BBM.com and download BBM on their device.

You can show off the actual app, a video of your friends using BBM, a funny skit ... whatever you think will make your BBM ad reign supreme.

Here's an example:

You can certainly do better than that, right?

The Details

Your video should be no longer than one minute and needs to show at least one of the following:

  • Creative way to tell your friends to get BBM
  • Show some of the key differentiators of BBM vs. WhatsApp or other IM clients as reasons why to download BBM
  • Show fun/creative ways to share your PIN with your friends

Other than that there are no constraints, so go nuts. We'll be looking at how well you get the message across, how good your video looks and how much awesome it's packing.

At the end of the entry period we'll be picking the one video that we think is the best of them all.

Grand Prize

One grand prize winner will receive a BBM prize pack that includes:

  • Round trip for two (2) to Toronto to attend a Toronto Maple Leafs OR Toronto Raptors game
  • A visit to BlackBerry HQ at Waterloo to meet the BBM team
  • A guided tour of the city with BlackBerry's Alex Kinsella

How To Enter

Create your video and then send us a link to the file (Dropbox, Box, etc)  so we can download it. Submit your entries to bbmcontest@mobilenations.com before November 30th at midnight PT. One entry per person.

The competition will be tough as we're running this one on CrackBerry and Android Central as well, so keep that in mind as we'll only be picking one grand prize winner.

Personally I cannot seem to find all of these people "excited" about BBM being cross platform. I was a huge blackberry fan years ago and onLy switched because my Bold 9700 broke and I could not get a replacement device. So when news broke the cross-platform app launched I immediately downloaded it and started posting my Pin on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram to reconnect with new BBM user of the past and new users as well. Sadly I would only get replies of "Whats BBM?" or "I use Kik now". Hell my niece thats 13 told me she has never even heard of it.

I hope the excitement that I keep hearing about is "real" and not just spoken about to try to paint a picture that really isnt eye catching anymore. Lastly I do hope more features from the Blackberry version of the app are implemented in future update. Perhaps a slick feature like screen sharing would cause more people to be more interested and give the app a try.

My contacts grew over 30 people this past fortnight of BBM being cross platform. 28 of those extra contacts are iOS/Android users.
