Apple's 7 for 1 stock split: What you need to know!

Alongside their Q2 2014 results, Apple announced a 7 for 1 stock split. In other words every share of AAPL will soon become 7 shares of AAPL. Whenever a big company announces a stock split lots of people talk about it as if it’s some kind of big deal. It isn’t really a big deal at all. Public companies like Apple have their shares traded on a stock exchange where average Joe buyers like you and I can buy and sell. Big money managers can do the same. The total number of shares in existence makes up the entire company. I often explain that it’s like cutting a pizza.

Tim Cook's game with Wall Street: Underpromise and overdeliver

Tim Cook is playing a dangerous game with investors, analysts and tech journalists. We've been hearing for months about how Apple will launch products in new categories, but there's still no sign of these new products. Time will tell if Cook's gamble to tease us will pay off.

Google Glass online orders are still apparently open

Last week Google Glass ditched the invites and went on sale to anyone and everyone for just one day. That meant that whoever wanted to snag Glass could do so without any caveats, like having to sign up for the Explorer program or wait on an invite. While the Glass page is currently showing the program as closed once again, it appears that Glass may still be available for purchase directly from Google.

How to manage Notification Center banners, popups, badges, and sounds on your iPhone and iPad

How to manage Notification Center banners, popups, badges, and sounds on your iPhone and iPad

Notification Center alerts you to everything that's happening on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad using a combination of banners, popups, badges, and sounds/vibrations. That's great if it's something really important like an alarm, appointment, or iMessage. But when every app and game on your iPhone starts blinking, beeping, and buzzing, notifications quickly turns into interruptions. When everything is urgent, nothing is. Luckily, Notification Center also lets you turn off those banners, popups, badges, and sounds on an app-by-app basis, so you get to decide what's important enough to get your attention. That's right, serenity -- and sanity! -- can be yours again in just a few simple steps.

Apple Q2 2014: Wow, were we wrong!

Last night I was all set to review another boring Apple quarter. Many stock followers thought the numbers would arrive in line with guidance (and Street expectations), and that there wouldn't be too much exciting stuff happen on the call.

Wow. Were we wrong.

Race for charity in Sidekick Cycle on iOS

Want to do a little racing and maybe help make a difference in someone’s life? Then look no further than Sidekick Cycle from Global Gaming Initiative. Sidekick Cycle is a 2D racing game in which players bike through obstacle courses filled with ramps and crazy loops. The iOS game has just received a major update that doubles its content, adding lots more levels and riders.

Now comes the part where gamers can do some good. Sidekick Cycle is free to play with in-app purchases. Fifty percent of in-app purchases go towards the “Free Bikes 4 Kidz” charity based out of Minneapolis, MN. As you can probably tell, the charity buys bicycles for children in order to help them lead healthy lifestyles.

Prong battery case for iPhone 5/5s includes built-in wall jack

Battery cases are great — they extend the usability of your iPhone for hours past what you get with the built in battery. But when the battery case runs out of juice, you're hosed, at least until you can charge it back up. Prong aims to fix that with the PWR case for iPhone 5 and 5s, coming this summer. It's available for pre-order for $65; when it goes on sale it'll cost $79.99.

Third Eye Crime just hit the App Store today, offering a refreshing mix of stealth and line-tracing puzzle gaming. Players have to guide a psychic detective/burglar through some particularly sticky situations. This involves drawing a path through a winding maze so that patrolling goons don't catch you on the way to the exit.
