Vote now for the casual gaming app of the year [TiPb Awards]

TiPb Awards: Casual game of the year

Many of the most popular casual iOS games in 2011 were, in some ways sadly, the same games that were popular in 2010 -- the same Angry Birds and Cut the Rope and Smurf's Village and various [Farm/Village/City] franchises. But there were a few new gems and tweaked up favorites to be found this year too.

Tiny Wings showed that greats looks, simple gameplay, and killer concept still make for the best iOS games. Tiny Tower showed that new time-management games could still grab attention if done with attention to detail.

SPY Mouse brought some Firemint flare to the platform puzzler. DragonVale took the farming genre back to the days of legend.

Cut the Rope: Experiments showed last year's great new games could be this years great new sequels. Minecraft meanwhile finally showed up on iOS, and while limited, it's still Minecraft on iOS.

That's a half-dozen choices across almost as many genres, but you can only pick one. Vote up top and tell us why you voted they way you did in the comments! These are your awards, so get to it!

According to a find by Mark Gurman over at 9to5Mac, Apple will refresh the stock iPad wallpapers when it eventually gets round to releasing iOS 5.1 to the public. iOS 5.1 is currently in its second beta phase and as there is no sign of a Gold Master release we have no idea when it will become available to all.

Daily Tip: How to print out driving directions from the Maps app

Going on vacation or just to someplace new and curious how to print out Maps driving directions so you can keep a hard copy handy? While the built-in iOS Maps app lacks turn by turn navigation, it does give you a visual map of your route and a list of directions. If you're driving through an area with dodgy data service, or you're just old school and want a physical copy, it's easy to print out that list of directions. They can then be handed to your passenger without the need for them to have your iPhone in their hand and it saves your battery life too.

Picky pair of robbers take iPhones, leave BlackBerries, Androids

Picky pair of robbers take iPhones, leave BlackBerries, Androids

Two robbers on Columbia's campus apparently only fancy robbing iPhone users. If you have a BlackBerry or Droid, they'd rather take your cash instead. In three separate incidents on 114th Street the men repeatedly asked victims to fork over their iPhones. While the first victim handed them an iPhone, the second victim handed them a Droid. They apparently aren't Android fans and opted to take his cash instead. When the third victim stated she didn't have an iPhone, they refused to believe her and pushed her into a fence and searched her.

Glowing Apple logo mod for your iPhone now available

Glowing Apple logo mod for your iPhone now available

If you have an extra $40 dollars burning a hole in your wallet and around 10-15 minutes of free time, K.O Gadget Store has an awesome mod available that gives you a glowing back logo for your iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

The logo lights up whenever the front screen is turned on, and stays illuminated for 15 seconds after you put your iPhone to sleep. It even lights up when you're holding the phone up to your ear while on a call!

The mod is fairly easy to install based on the video instructions from their website, and the end results are pretty stellar. It's as easy as removing the 2 screw on the bottom of the iPhone using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, then sliding the back panel off by pressing up with your thumbs. Installing the illuminated logo is the only tricky part, but even those with little skill can accomplish the task.

It's a great companion to your MacBook Pro, and they even include the required tools necessary to complete the installation. Check out the instructional video below!

UPDATE: Their site is currently down while they upgrade their servers to handle all the orders. If you manage to snag one, let us know!

Revised iOS 5.0.1 update may make Siri port legally possible

Apple's revised iOS 5.0.1 update seems to have come with decrypted ramdisks, something which could make the port of Siri to other iOS devices legally possible. Before today’s firmware update, important files to get Siri working on other devices were encrypted in Apple’s file system. Decrypting them would be illegal and infringe on copyright and that is the main reason for it not being made available.
