#FollowFriday @TiPb iPod nano 6 give-away

Want a shiny 6th generation iPod nano for free? Long story short, due to some shipping delays TiPb had to run out and buy some so we could get our review up in a timely manner. That means we have some extra. And that means we're going to give them away to you. Now keep in mind these are review units -- they've been opened, photographed, video recorded, and tested, but gently and lightly and are in mint condition with boxes and cables and all that.

Want one? All you have to do is tweet this to enter:

Yes, iOS 4.2 text tones currently individual, not custom

iOS 4.2 adds the ability to set individual text message tones to your contacts (finally!), but not custom tones, not even ringtones purchased from the iTunes Store. Apple seems to be keeping text tones completely separate from ringtones (and since they're shorter and functionally different -- they don't need to keep playing for a long period of time until you answer -- that may make some sense). Yup, that means you're still limited to the built in choices.

iPad now available in China, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru

iPad is now available in China, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as previously announced, and as Gizmodo points out, celebrating new Apple gears is a cross-cultural, seemingly universal phenomena.

[Han Ziwen became the first iPad owner in mainland China today, and was carried out of the Beijing Apple store on employees' shoulders. He even made a t-shirt for the occasion: "I BUY IPAD NO 1". Image via Getty]

Cue the folk music. Then go enjoy your new iPads.

Facebook Places now in UK. Are you still using it?

Facebook Places has gone live in the UK. It lit up in Japan a few days ago as well. No love for Canada or many other countries yet. Still, even in locations where Facebook places has launched, it doesn't seem to have slowed down FourSquare or Gowalla at all.

Is Facebook Places available where you are? Are you using it? If so, let us know how it's been working for you, if not, tell us what's kept you away.

[Thanks English Mike!]

iOS 4.2 features: Set individual text message tone

iOS 4.2 for iPhone seems poised to finally provide yet another hugely requested feature -- set individual text message tones.

Nice to see Apple knocking things off the nagging omissions list. Do I even have to ask if you're going to be using this?

Netflix app on TV via iOS 4.2 AirPlay? Ohellsyeah!

Netflix app on TV via iOS 4.2 AirPlay? Ohellsyeah!

Netflix streaming from iPad or iPhone to your TV via iOS 4.2 AirPlay? That's what Mark Gurman is showing off.

We connected some speakers to an Airport Express and the audio from the Netflix film wirelessly streamed and played perfectly with absolutely no hiccups. When the new Apple TV launches, you’ll be able to wirelessly stream both the video and audio to your television set; that’s right, I said television.

Now if only they let Hulu Plus do that...

Apple prepping subscription plan for newspapers?

Apple prepping subscription plan for newspapers?

Apple may be preparing a subscription plan for newspapers says the Mercury News. When iBooks was announced alongside iPad, but no similar offering for magazines and newspapers, it was curious. When friction resulted from magazines trying to roll their own subscriptions, it was noteworthy. Now, however, a solution might just be in place:

Yahoo! CEO: iAds will fall apart on Apple

Yahoo! CEO: iAds will fall apart on Apple

Yahoo! perhaps doth protest too much as CEO Carol Bartz thinks Apple's iAds will self-destruct:

"That's going to fall apart for them," Bartz said about Apple's iAd service. "Advertisers are not going to have that type of control over them. Apple wants total control over those ads."

Because that strategy has worked so poorly for Apple in the past, what with the dismal failures of iTunes and record lable iTunes, iPod, iPhone, and iPad?
