Rumor: Quad-core A6 chipset to power future iPad, iPhone

Mark Gurman over at 9to5 Mac has discovered some code buried deep within the iOS 5.1 beta which might suggest Apple is prepping a quad-core chip to power future iPhone and iPad devices.

The references to quad-core iPhone and iPad chips come by way of a hidden panel that describes cores that are supported by iOS device hardware. The updated core management software includes an option of “/cores/core.3,” and this represents a fourth available processing core…

Instagram now shares photos to your Facebook albums

Instagram has made a change that shares your photos to your Facebook albums instead of just sticking a link on your wall. Now when you select Facebook as an option when uploading a photo to Instagram, the image will be uploaded full-sized into a Facebook album named "Instagram Photos", along with your caption. As a result, your Instagram photos will appear nice and large on your timeline and it will be easy for your friends to browse past Instagram photos.

Previously, only the instagr.am link was shared to your wall and your friends needed to visit that link in order to view your photo. Additionally, you couldn't tag people in the photos and 'likes' and comments were technically made to the shared link, not the photo.

iPhone 5 concept designs start up again

Now that iPhone 4S has come and launched, iPhone 5 (or whatever Apple ends up calling the next generation iPhone), concept designs are once again starting to pop up. This one comes from designer Antonio De Rosa, who created the above iPhone concept and has given it the title of iPhone SJ, as it is Steve Jobs inspired. He imagines it having an A6 processor, a 10 MP camera, and a polycarbonate body. I don't particularly feel that an A6 processor or a better camera are out of the question for the next iPhone.

Welcome to iMore

iPhone and iPad are the first mainstream mobile platforms -- of geeks and for geeks but not only geeks. Apple and Steve Jobs worked relentlessly to make computing more mainstream and more accessible, and they've succeeded. For some, iPhones and iPads are still the traditional mobile devices -- letting us stay in touch and get things done on to go. But they're also more -- they let us do everything from gaming to photography to music to medicine in ways never before possible. Because of that, beyond simply buying a phone or learning how to use a tablet, our community has grown to encompass so much more.

iMessage bug prevents SMS from getting through to Android switchers

TechCrunch reports an iMessage bug causing problems for iOS users trying to send SMS messages to ex-iPhone users who have switched to another platform, such as Android.

What happens is, the iPhone attempts to send the SMS to the ex-iPhone user as an iMessage -- just like it always did before the recipient switched devices. But since Android doesn't support iMessage, the text ultimately fails.

Simple, if naive solution:

  1. Don't let your friends switch away from iPhones.

Complicated, if realistic solution:

Apple sending legal threats to ultra-realistic Steve Jobs action figure maker

It didn't take long, but according to The Telegraph, Apple has sicked their lawyers on In Icon, the company behind the life-like Steve Jobs action figure we reported on earlier this week.

But 'their efforts have reportedly met with' a legal challenge with Apple allegedly threatening to sue the toy maker unless they cease trading. The legal wrangle is over the likeness of the doll to the late Apple founder, the rights of which the company claims it owns.

App Giveaway: Triple Entendre for iPhone and iPad

App Giveaway: Triple Entendre for iPhone and iPad

Triple Entendre is a riddle and puzzle game for iPhone and iPad. Each level is a combination of text, photos, and other clues that provide hints to the answer or even the question. Most questions are intended to require some research, so there's a built-in browser that makes it easy to switch between the web and the game.

I'm a total sucker for riddles and totally addicted to Triple Entendre. It's extremely challenging and half the time I'm cursing my iPad for my wrong answers, but boy does it feel good to pass a level.

If you're looking for hints on the levels, we've got a thread in our forums dedicated to asking and giving hints for Triple Entendre.
