Phone Saber was one of the most popular and talked about apps pretty much since the day Apple's on-board store launched. Hey, turn your iPhone into a sound-a-like Star Wars lightsaber? What's not to love?
Well, for THQ -- exclusive Lucas licensor of all things Star Wars for all things Mobile -- infringement for one. Too their credit, however, rather than just getting Apple to yank the App, THQ brought it onboard, and now they write in to tell us:
If you have been missing that all-important video recorder functionality for your iPhone, look no further than Cycorder. Now before you get all excited let me first say the only way you will be able to get this app is to have a jailbroken phone along with Cydia.
Jay Freeman, the author of other jailbroken apps such as Cydia and Winterboard, released Cycorder. It does have ads, but I can assure they do not get in your way. Just keep in mind these ads are keeping this app free for all of us.
Cycorder's video is shockingly decent for a cell phone video recorder. Recording in .mov format, Cycorder gets anywhere from 7-15 frames per second. It did not support audio when it was first released, but it does now. An update has just been released and it finally supports audio, though this clip does not contain any.
To get Cycorder simply go into Cydia and you will see it on the "Featured Packages" list on the front page. Download and enjoy!
Got an iPhone or iPod Touch? Then you've already got a PowerVR graphics core crunching your eye candy. This week, however, Imagination Technologies revealed that an "unnamed company" has acquired a new mega-license for their current and future tech.
Could we not only be seeing iPhone 2.1 this Tuesday, but a 2.1 with secret features deliberately kept from the 4 developer beta's just so Steve Jobs can see our stunned rapture when he pronounces BOOM!
Not evil twin to theiPhoneBlog.com Week in Review, not an invasion by Fake Steve, This Week in Smart Phone Schadenfreude brings you all the feel-better news you need about the smartphone world outside Apple’s current media dominator. (Who knew there was such a world? We were just as surprised! Inelegant, interface challenged, keyboardy, crashy, single-touchy place — best not to linger…). Join us as we mock review the big news from last week at our sister sites. Everybody loves sibling rivalry!
Trouble finding a certain app in the app store? Well, there is a new website out there called iPhonexe (mobile version can be found here) that gives everyone with a iPhone a alternative to using Apple's official app store. While I personally have not checked for every single app currently in the app store, iPhonexe claims to include them all, broken down into categories ready for nice and easy browsing. Keep in mind that this does not bypass Apple's app store completely. If you click "Buy Now" you are taken directly to the app in the app store to purchase it via iTunes.
A few weeks back Rene reported that starting September 7th Best Buy would be selling the iPhone 3g. Well that day is rapidly approaching and look what has landed on the cover of next weeks Best Buy's circular.
This cool piece of video came to us from a email tip from 18 year old Josef Průša. Have some time to spare? Have a old remote control car laying around? Well that's what Josef had and he and his brother took "only one afternoon" to get this up and running!
