Dear Android and BlackBerry users, what would iOS 5 need to win you over?

Apple will be announcing iOS 5 on Monday and if the rumors are to be believed it will do pretty much everything from notifications to make you a tasty vanilla latte (okay, not really.) But it does beg the question -- if you're an Android or BlackBerry user, or a Windows Phone, webOS, or fan of any other platform, what would Apple have to do to win you over to iPhone and iPad?

Steve Jobs talks about remote computing at WWDC 1997 [Blast from the past]

Steve Jobs talks about remote computing at WWDC 1997 [Blast from the past]

Almost 15 years ago, in a rare WWDC 1997 Q&A session, Steve Jobs talks about thin clients, the dangers of being too proprietary, not dating Larry Ellison, if Apple could ever compete with Microsoft and Intel, and having his home directory everywhere.

I have computers at Apple, at Pixar, at NeXT and at home. I walk over to any of them and log in as myself. It goes over the network, finds my home directory on the server and I’ve got my stuff, where ever I am. And none of that is on a local disc. The server…is my local disc.”

Video after the break. Interesting in light of what we might see on Monday, no?

Apple hires MobileNotifier developer Peter Hajas

It looks like Apple has recently hired Peter Hajas, lead developer behind the popular iOS jailbreak tweak MobileNotifier, as an "iOS Apps & Frameworks" employee.

Hajas announced his departure from development on MobileNotifier in a blog post ending with a reference to Steve Jobs' closing remarks at his 2005 Stanford commencement speech saying "stay hungry and stay foolish". This tipped off iPhone Download Blog who speculated he may be heading to Apple, and sure enough he's been confirmed as an intern at their Cupertino headquarters.

Is this the iCloud login screen? [Updated]

With WWDC 2011 only days away, the leaks coming faster and more furiously, and one of the big ones might just be shown in that image up top -- purportedly the [iCloud](http://www.imore.com/tag/icloud/] login screen, by way of chpwn on Twitter.

Question is, will it replace MobileMe as Apple new internet services portal, or will it be a second point of entry?

UPDATE: And... it's a fake.

iPad 3 coming later this year, with LTE?

The WSJ Blogs are throwing fuel on the fire on the rumors of a second iPad launch this year, but adding an LTE 4G twist.

“While most vendors appear fixated on matching the specs and features of iPad2, our checks suggest Apple will release iPad3 in time for the holiday season, sporting a better display and LTE capabilities.”

Imagining iOS 5 [Updated]

Imagining iOS 5 [Updated]

Back on March 1, I tried to imagine what we'd see in iOS 5. Unlike preview years, however, there was no iOS 5 event in the spring. Instead, Apple will now be previewing iOS 5 in June, at WWDC 2011. As in this monday. So I'm revisiting my list, updating it with the latest news and rumors, and wondering what Apple could do that'll be big enough to make us forget the lack of a new iPhone introduction this time around.

So what will iOS 5 bring? We'll give you our want list, after the break.

Friday Fun: The unofficial One more thing (WWDC 2011 Song)

Friday Fun: The unofficial One more thing (WWDC 2011 Song)

The phrase “One more thing” is such a well known term delivered at the end of Apple keynotes by CEO Steve Jobs. It’s usually just before announcing an amazing new product right at the very end. In honor of this, Cory Smith of Cardinal Media Technologies has put together a rap song entitled......One more thing (WWDC 2011 Song). Some of the lyrics are below:-

Phil Schiller told us we wouldn’t want to miss this would have been gold if there’d been more specifics so I look to Gruber discern his predictions to see if the rumors will turn into fiction damn this consumer addiction to all these gadgets and the magic within them all the designs by Jonny Ive so I guess I better check who’s blogging live can’t wait to download the developer preview

You can listen to the full song right after the break. It’s good fun and all adds nicely to the build up to WWDC 2011.

Ninja crashes car into Greensboro Apple Store

We kid you not -- a man described by security as wearing a white ninja suit crashed his car through the Greensboro Apple Store before fleeing on foot.

Greensboro police received a call around 4:43 a.m. after a dark gray or blue Honda crashed into the store. According to police, the man crashed into the store in a robbery attempt.

The store will remain closed today, of course, while they see to damages. (And perhaps look into hiring some samurai to increase security?)
