iPhone holds highest retention rate over competing smartphone makers

A new UBS survey suggests Apple currently holds the top spot in smartphone retention rates by a long shot, holding a strong 89% rating over the nearest hardware competitor HTC at just 39%. Apple also had no trouble beating out the Android platform in general, although being a platform gave Google an added "stickiness" of around 60% retention among consumers.

TiPb Asks: How many photos do you have in your iPhone Camera Roll?

Last night on iPhone Live we were talking about how many photos we had in our iPhone Camera Roll and I admitted to being a bit of snapshot addict. I have over 1800 pics in my Camera Roll, everything from friends and family to clouds and sunsets to clothes and fashions to nails and hair I like and want to remember.

Now you can buy an iPad while you shop for underwear at Macy's

Now you can buy an iPad while you shop for underwear at Macy's

Electronic vending machines aren't anything new when it comes to airports or other travel stops but how about iPad vending machines at a Macy's Department store? Consumerist writer, Ben Popken, spotted one in the men's department of his local Macy's.

What I find interesting is that they'd have these machines in a mall that also contains an Apple Store. I've always understood why they'd have them in airports. If someone has to sit on a 14 hour plane ride they'll probably pay more than retail for an iPad. Jack up the prices and you'll get people to pay them when they're on a time limit to find something to escape boredom for the next several hours. But inside a Macy's is just weird to me.

Skype admits to iPhone app security problem, releasing a fix "soon"

Skype admits to iPhone app security problem, releasing a fix "soon"

Skype has stated they are aware of a serious cross-site scripting vulnerability within the chat feature for Skype on the iPhone. The security hole could allow for malicious JavaScript code to access to your address book and is known to affect versions 3.0.1 and below.

Skype reached out to TechCrunch to say they're hard at work on getting an update pushed to the App Store.

We are working hard to fix this reported issue in our next planned release which we hope to roll out imminently. In the meantime we always recommend people exercise caution in only accepting friend requests from people they know and practice common sense internet security as always.

The funny thing is, Skype has known about the issue for a while now. AppSec Consulting security researcher Phil Purviance helped discover the problem and let Skype know about it almost a month ago. Skype responded saying they would release an update earlier this month, but we're nearing the end of September and there's no update to be found.

Here's hoping Skype gets on this quick and pushes out an update soon, but in the meantime check out the video below detailing how the vulnerability works.

Add more browsing functionality with BackForwardList for Safari [jailbreak]

If you use Safari rather frequently on your jailbroken iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch you may want to check out BackForwardList for Safari. The main purpose is to enhance the functionality of the back and forward buttons.

Instead of tapping to go back a page, you can hold down on the back or forward button to gain quick access to your history. I've found this useful when I want to go back to a site I was browsing a few pages back. It's much easier than just tapping on the back button multiple times.

Facebook changes now appearing within Facebook for iPhone

Facebook has yet again changed the way the news feed functions and manages content. Love it or hate it, these changes are also starting to appear in the Facebook for iPhone app as well. While there is no update from the App Store, it appears a lot of the changes were made from the back end. Your news feed will now filter most recent news at the top followed by older stories.
