Apple buys chip designer Intrisity for $121 million

Apple has bought chip designer Intrisity for $121 million. Given the rapidity and speed of the Apple A4 chipset debuted alongside the iPad, rumors have persisted that Intrisity was behind the new system-on-chip (SoC), but confirmation took a while to arrive.

Intrisity was able to take the standard ARM Cortex A8 found in 650MHz flavor in the iPhone 3GS and competing smartphones and speed it up to 1GHz.

Microsoft says Android violates its patents as well, HTC pays up

Microsoft says Android violates its patents as well, HTC pays up

Apple has sued HTC for patent infringement with Android almost certainly being the target, now it turns out Microsoft believes Android also infringes on their patents and HTC has just paid up.

That means the free-as-in-Google smartphone OS isn't free anymore -- it's just Microsoft who's getting the money for it, and from the maker of the Nexus One, Desire, Legend, and Droid Incredible no less. That hurts Android.

Possible Limera1n jailbreak coming in the near future?

First there was blackra1n and who would have thought the next rain would bring limes? That's right, limera1n.com is now live - sort of as you will only see a green rain drop when visiting the page. And if this could come as a surprise the site is registered to one George Hotz. Those of you who follow iPhone hacker on Twitter may have noticed a few hints that he has been working on a major breakthrough on the jailbreak front.

iPad Wi-Fi + 3G orders preparing to ship!

iPad Wi-Fi + 3G orders preparing to ship!

Michael wrote in to tell us (and show us, see above) that his iPad Wi-Fi + 3G order was finally prepared to ship, and since Apple has previously confirmed they'd deliver on April 30, we'd say it's none too soon.

Wi-Fi only iPads arrived on April 3 in the US while international iPad Wi-Fi and iPad Wi-Fi + 3G are set for pre-order on May 10 and delivery "late May" (which we'll take to mean May 31 unless pleasantly surprised otherwise).

Anyone else get a notice? Anyone get an actual confirmed shipment and tracking number yet?

More proof of video iChat, possible Game Center integration in iPhone OS 4 SDK beta 2

More proof of video iChat, possible Game Center integration in iPhone OS 4 SDK beta 2

The evidence that iChat video is coming with the 4th generation iPhone continues to pile up with iPhone OS 4 beta 2 released just last week.

However, it does not end there. More code reveals that the iPhone must be registered for video conferencing along with the possibility of the feature only being used via Wi-Fi and not 3G data. So those who had hoped for video chat using their networks 3G connection may be a bit disappointed.

iPad finger nabber, nabbed!

iPad finger nabber, nabbed!

Thanks to surveillance cameras and good detective work, one of the suspected iPad thieves who cost a man his finger has been caught and is presently behind bars. Brandon Darnell Smith 20, was picked up at his home and is being investigated in connection with the theft and injury. He has been charged with second-degree assault and robbery. The suspect was caught one day after the incident took place.

Takes off sunglasses, squints into the sun. I guess this thief got more than just the finger. Cut to Miami skyline, cue music... Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!.

(Ok best I could do, please add a better Horatio one liner in the comments!)
