XBMC for Apple TV , iPad and iPhone 4 available now [jailbreak]

XBMC is now available as a jailbreak app for the Apple TV (2010), iPad and iPhone 4. XBMC, for those that do not know, is a free open source media center application, that until today was only available for Linux, OSX, Windows and the original Xbox.

The Apple TV version is a full XBMC install and allows full network sharing of media, hardware decoding of 720p and 1080p movies plus everything else that XBMC has to offer. The iPad version also offers full hardware accelerated video playback and network access to media. The iPhone 4 has been included in the release however the devs do point out that navigation is a bit frustrating.

The app is jailbreak only and you will not find it in the App Store anytime soon. It is free to install, so what are you waiting for? Check out the videos after the break, one running on the Apple TV2 and the other on the iPad then let us know if you’re going to be jailbreaking and installing XBMC!

New "Universal Bumpers" now fit Verizon iPhone, available at Apple Stores?

New "Universal Bumpers" now fit Verizon iPhone, available at Apple Stores?

Alerio shared his video with us, showing what looks like a new "Universal Bumper" designed to fit both the existing GSM/AT&T iPhone and the new CDMA/Verizon iPhone with its slightly redesigned antenna and downward-shifted volume controls.

Just wanted to share a video of the new Universal Bumper for the Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4. Picked one up today at my local Apple store!

He says the differences aren't many but they were enough that Apple's old bumpers wouldn't fit. The TiPb iPhone Accessory Store is keeping their own list of compatible Verizon iPhone cases (yeah, cheap plug!) but its good to see Verizon iPhone buyers will have some additional choices available come February 10.

New Verizon iPhone TV Ad

New Verizon iPhone TV Ad

So, with the Verizon iPhone just around the corner, Verizon have already begun televising their new iPhone Ads.

The ad doesn't mention Verizon's network coverage or reliability, or make any attempt to draw customers away from AT&T. It doesn't mention new features like personal hotspot. Instead the advertisement is mainly focused on the fact that "The Wait Is Over".

It also seems to be a Verizon-made ad -- like the Verizon iPad + Mi-Fi ad -- while all previous ads (for AT&T) have been Apple ads.

Video after the break. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

[Thanks Ross!]

iOS 4.3 multitasking gestures hacked onto iPhone 3GS [video]

YouTube user antoninygaard seems to have been able to go into iOS 4.3 beta and manually enable the multitasking gestures meant for iPad developer testing (as well as the mute/orientation lock toggle!) We heard Apple was testing them internally but he's got both running on his iPhone 3GS.

We already know Apple won't be giving them to end users for iPad much less iPhone any time soon but check out the video below and let us know what you think. Are the multitasking gestures usable on a screen that small?

iOS 4.3 beta 2 reveals iPad 2 Camera, PhotoBooth and FaceTime apps

The latest iOS 4.3 beta 2 released to developers yesterday, reveals a Camera app, PhotoBooth app and a FaceTime app will all be included in iPad 2.

The evidence comes from an image found in the latest beta. The image (homeScreenOverlayFaceTime~iPad.png) is used to preview home screen wallpaper changes, and clearly shows icons for the Camera, PhotoBooth and FaceTime apps. The current image found in iOS 4.2 does not have these icons.

Daily Tip: How to switch to a Verizon iPhone without an ETF from AT&T

Considering switching to a Verizon iPhone and wondering how to avoid an AT&T ETF?

Early termination fees are a necessary evil for most carriers. They allow the carrier to recoup some of the cost of a subsidized device if someone cancels early. It also makes the cost of switching to another carrier pretty painful. But there are a few ways to either get around an ETF or offset some of the cost to make the switch a little easier to swallow. Click through for a few suggestions.

Apple testing iOS 4.3 multitouch gestures on iPhone as well?

Apple testing iOS 4.3 multitouch gestures on iPhone as well?

According to some screenshots BGR received from an Apple source, it looks like might just be testing those currently iOS 4.3 for iPad-only multitouch navigation gestures on special internal iPhones as well.

Now the part about 4 or 5 fingers makes sense on iPad but on the much smaller iPhone screen it... seems a little cramped. BGR thinks their previous no-Home-button iPhone rumor could lead to a Palm Pre-style gesture area instead. Engadget, which believes the screenshots could be genuine, thinks iPhone 4 could have a bigger screen or it could just be placeholder text from iPad and less fingers will be required if it goes primetime.
