Google slowly rolling out new web app UI

Google slowly rolling out new web app UI

It seems that Google are slowly implementing a new UI for their web app. The update changes the 'blue tabs' at the top of the site to new 'grey tabs' with pull down icons. To change the type of search, they've updated it to include a drop down grid of all the different search types, and apps, instead of the old text list.

Interestingly, this UI update has only been updated on Web search, Video search, News and Blogs. The older 'blue' interface still appears on Image Search, Places, Shopping, Finance, Apps, iGoogle and Books. Google Apps, like GMail, Google Translate, Google Docs and Google Reader haven't received any form of update either. YouTube has its own mobile web app, and Maps has recently been updated.

Do you like this update on the Google Web App? Do you use the Google Web App?

The iPad is really cutting into consumer PC sales according to analyst

For the first time PC sales are set to decline and Citi analyst Walter Pritchard is pointing the finger firmly in the iPads direction. The graph above shows consumer PC sales growth percentages. Month on month they show positive growth; even through the disastrous Windows Vista period and the global recession. If you look closely, between March 2010 and March 2011 you can see a massive decline in growth with it bottoming out in December 2010 and hitting negative figures in March 2011. Now what happened in March 2010 that could have triggered such a decline in PC sales over the following 12 months?

Daily Tip: How to ditch the Facebook for iPhone app (and still get notifications)

Daily Tip: How to ditch the Facebook for iPhone app (and still get notifications)

Not a fan of the official Facebook for iPhone app, desperate for an alternative, but still need to get notifications? Join the club. I've never been a fan. Their cryptic "bug fix" updates never seem to improve anything and notifications are always so finicky. More often than not, I open my Facebook app to find several notifications that were never pushed to my iPhone. On top of that, the timeline can be choppy or jump randomly. And the whole "liking comments" just seems to decide on its own whether or not it's going to work that specific day.

If you feel the same way, hit the jump for some workarounds and alternative solutions to using the Facebook for iPhone application.

Now, sources have told 9to5Google that although Apple is working to improve the iOS Maps application, iOS 5 will not bring an Apple developed maps service and Google Maps is still in.

Apple looking to improve screen visibility when outdoors and wearing sunglasses

Apple has applied for another patent this week which is entitled “Display that emits circularly-polarized light”. What this means to us is that we may see improved viewing experiences on our iPhones and iPads if this technology makes it to future devices.

If you have tried viewing your iPhone outside in sunlight, it is a good experience however the iPad is not good at all. Put a pair of sunglasses on and the whole experience becomes nearly unusable. With this patent application, Apple is proposing a liquid-crystal display that reduces perceived distortion when viewed through linear polarizing filters; or in other words, sunglasses!

So how long until Amazon buys Cydia?

Amazon has an Android Appstore to compete with Google's Android Market, and according to The Loop they've just released a Mac Download Store to compete with Apple's Mac App Store, so how long until they decide they want to be in the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch space and try to buy Cydia, introduce a Jailbreak app store alternative all their own, or try some fancy HTML5 web app store?
