Rumor: Apple releasing iOS 4.0.1 next week?

Apple Insider is reporting that, before being removed, a thread in the Apple Discussion Forums confirmed iOS 4.0.1 was being readied for release next week to address bugs -- including the dreaded antenna "hold different" issue (or "death-grip" if you prefer).

iOS (iPhone) 3.0.1 was released July 31, 2009. 2.0.1 was August 4, 2008. 1.0.1 was was July 31, 2007. So next week for 4.0.1? Unusual.

For a good FaceTime call 1-888-FACETIME

Apple has set up a service for new iPhone 4 owners who want to taste the glorious future that is FaceTime, but whose Luddite friends won't cooperate by getting iPhones of their own. Just call 1-888-FACETIME and cheerful Apple service representative will answer, initiate FaceTime with you, and walk you through the feature.

If you give it a try, let us know how it works for you. Just don't keep calling -- it's not iChatRoulette, okay?

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

iPhone 4 features: Using LED flash in low light video

The new iPhone 4 is equipped with a much improved 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording capabilities. In addition, there is a built-in LED flash to help in low light situations. We have put the camera and the flash to the test in almost every way except when using the flash to illuminate a poorly lit room while recording HD video. That is, until now!

My iPhone 4 has a hairline scratch - from normal use

My iPhone 4 has a hairline scratch - from normal use

I have a hairline scratch on the screen of my iPhone 4 and I have no idea how it got there. I've had my iPhone for just over 24 hours and I'd like to think I've treated the little girl pretty well - it goes in my pocket, sure, but solo. I also have been using the bumper for most of the time. However, the bumper has been on and off and at some point I must have set it face down on a table with a bit of grit or something underneath there.

In other words, the phone has a small scratch from what I would definitely call normal use.

It's a tiny, hardly noticable scratch. With the screen on, it's invisible - but it's there and I can feel it. I've preordered the Case-Mate Clear Armor Screen Protector for iPhone 4 and am trying not to let the scratch on my shiny iPhone 4 become a scratch on my mind.

After the break, a slightly photoshopped version (just over-sharpened, really, to better show the hairline scratch.

Verizon not interested in iPhone 4?

Maybe, just maybe, these pesky iPhone 4 on Verizon rumors will finally fade away as Droid Life reports they're fully committed to Android and their current high-end lineup of devices like the new Droid X.

"And the second part of the meeting (and most important to us) was to announce that they will not be interested in the iPhone 4 (as of now) and are putting full effort behind Android and the new lineup of Droid devices."

Is signal strength a factor in iPhone 4 antenna reception issue?

We've gotten a few emails this morning from TiPb readers who think signal strength might be a factor in the dreaded iPhone 4 "hold different" reception problems. Last night when testing at home, they could kill the signal by holding the iPhone 4 over the lower left side. When taking it out of their homes and onto the streets, it didn't seem to happen any more.

Apple and AT&T hit with lawsuit over disappearance of iPad unlimited data option
