iPhone 5 release pool: 'iPhone 4S' won't support LTE, arriving in September with Sprint & T-Mobile support?

Forbes is reporting on a research note from analyst Peter Misek, who claims Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5 in September. Misek states Apple will be going with 'iPhone 4S' as the name, following in the footsteps of the 3G to 3GS upgrade, and will not support LTE because the Qualcomm chipset isn't ready just yet. He also believes Sprint and T-Mobile will be onboard at launch.

Cydia Search now available from your browser

Cydia Search now available from your browser

Planet-iPhones has released a browser-based Cydia Search.

You can browse cydia's default repositories, or add your own, which the website will refresh every hour. You can also search through categories or look for a specific app directly.

The app view on the site is very clean and and clearly lists: the description, the price, the developer and the repository including whether its from a trusted or untrusted source. It also shows, the iPhone's cydia UI, for screenshots and any other notes.

Its pretty clean, simple to use and a great alternative way to searching cydia apps when you may not have your iPhone or iPad handy, or if you're not jailbroken.

Tell us, will you use this as an alternative cydia search?

Jabra STONE2 BT headset give-away - Become TiPb's Facebook friend!

TiPb nation, as you may or may not be aware, a couple of weeks ago the TiPb Facebook page (along with a few other prominent tech sites) was torn down and it took Facebook the better part of a day to figure out how they were gamed and get it back online. And frankly, we're not sure all our TiPb Facebook friends made it through the ordeal with us.

So, we're calling all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV lovers, we're asking all gadget enthusiasts and techies -- we're counting on each and every one of you to head on over to TiPb's newly restored Facebook page and become our friend. (i.e. go to the page and hit the "Like" button!)

In return we'll give you the very best in iOS coverage on Facebook... and we'll give one of you (old friend or new!) one of these gorgeous Jabra STONE2 Bluetooth headsets courtesy of the TiPb Accessory Store! (W00t!)

Details after the break, but really... you've friended us already, right?!

Samsung announce 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 resolution display, paving the way for a Retina Display iPad 3?

Samsung announce 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 resolution display, paving the way for a Retina Display iPad 3?

Samsung has just announced that it will be demonstrating a new display panel for touch screen devices at the SID Display Week 2011 next week in Los Angeles. The display will have a huge resolution of 2560 x 1600 @ 300dpi and will be a 10.1-inch panel.

What is interesting to us is that the display may pave the way for the highly demanded Retina Display in the next version of the iPad. One of the reasons it failed to materialize in the iPad 2 was put down to power consumption. The new Samsung display uses a technology known as PenTile which is said to draw 40% less power consumption. PenTile has been developed by Samsung's partner Nouvoyance.

App for That: How do you set up a reminder to make a phone call?

App for That: How do you set up a reminder to make a phone call?

There are hundreds of thousands of iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps for just about everything -- so how come the one you need, the one you know just has to be there, is so hard to find? Enter TiPb's new weekly feature where staff and readers alike sort through the App Store and help you find just the right App for That. This week, Andrew asks:

I know there has to be an app that lets me set a reminder to call someone, then pops up an alert with a phone number so I can tap to dial it at the right time, but I just can't find it. HALP!

You can always use the notes field of the built in Calendar app, but this requires you to first open the contact's information, copy the phone number, then paste it into the notes of a new Calendar event, and that's just way too cumbersome for our taste. There are also many to-do apps that include this functionality, but in this case, less is more. For a better solution, follow along after the break!
