We're live at Apple's Cupertino, California headquarters for the 2014 iPad and Mac event! We're expecting to see OS X Yosemite, maybe iOS 8.1, as well as iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, and perhaps some new Macs with perhaps some preposterously large pixel sizes... or much-awaited mini updates. Apple is streaming the event, but we'll bring you all the color, commentary, analysis, highlights, and hands-on you can handle, so bookmark this page and join us at 10am PT, 1pm ET on October 16 for the liveblog. You'll be glad you did!
If you want to start chatting now, however, the readers chat is open right now and waiting for you!
We're reporting live on location today from Cupertino, California, where a little shindig is going down at Apple HQ where we'll be seeing what we expect to be new stuff for the iPad and Mac and hopefully a release date for OS X Yosemite. The iMore liveblog will give you guys a chance to talk about all of the awesome new stuff that we see but it's not the only place to be. The iMore forums will be hopping!
Like buses, you go seemingly forever without an Apple event then two come along at once. Just a month on from the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch event, Apple is bringing the press out to California once more to see what's new in iPad and Mac. iMore will be there with Rene Ritchie live on location at Apple HQ in Cupertino, but for the rest of us there are thankfully a bunch of ways to follow the action live!
Apple is hosting a little get together at its Cupertino, California, headquarters today so it's time to think about what we want to see the most. We've previewed what the iMore team thinks will – and won't – be shown off today by the likes of Tim Cook and Craig Federighi, but we can but dream. Will we get new Macs? New iPads? Yosemite? That famous "One more thing?" Knowing Apple any or all of the above, but what do you want to see the most?
Apple will be streaming today's event and you'll be able to sit back and enjoy the show in a number of ways. Available for everyone is the main stream portal on Apple's website, which will go live as the event kicks off, but should you own the Apple TV, it will also be possible to catch the show while relaxing in front of the big screen.
We are midway through October, and that means it's almost time to put on those costumes and head out trick-or-treating, hoping to score all kinds of candy. I know my daughter is counting the days until she brings home that big sack of loot, and I'm sure many of you feel the same way.
This week, let's see some candy! It doesn't have to be Halloween candy either. We want to see all the sweet, irresistible, sugar filled candies you can find. Be creative and have some fun with it!
The contest begins now and ends Tuesday October 21st at 11:59 PDT. Good luck!
It's also time to announce the winners of our last photo contest! We had quite a few fantastic submissions, and chose two winners. Those winners are...
Despite a ban from the NFL as a result of an exclusive sponsorship with headphone-maker Bose, Beats still got the beats. A recent debacle involving 49ers Colin Kaepernick's $10,000 fine for wearing Beats hasn't hurt the company in the slightest, and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine is happy with the media coverage amounting to roughly $2.14 million in free publicity.
Reddit now has an official iOS app again. The company has acquired the Alien Blue app along with its creator Jase Morrissey. Despite having its own official app, Reddit says that it is still committed to third-party apps that tap into its community and discussions. The Alien Blue app will continue to keep its name and Reddit will make the iPhone and iPad versions free.
Good news for those eager to take advantage of Apple Pay: 9to5Mac had obtained a leaked internal memo from Panera Bread that points to Monday, October 20th as the launch date for Apple's new mobile payment platform.
If you're a Beats Music subscriber, as well as an AT&T customer, this news may be a little disheartening. AT&T is no longer offering an add-on package that provided customers with a Beats Music subscription that comes with an extended 90-day trial period.
The Facebook app for iPhone has been updated to support the larger screens of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but that update's had an unintended consequence: tiny text. At least it's text that appears smaller, thanks to the larger screens of the new iPhones leading to users holding the phones farther from their faces. Thanks to the update, interface items are the physical same size across the board for all iPhone models… and that means they seem awfully small on the 6 and 6 Plus.
Variety is reporting today that Christian Bale is in talks to play Steve Jobs in Aaron Sorkin's upcoming biopic on the Apple co-founder. The film is based on Walter Isaacson's 2011 biography, simply titled "Steve Jobs."
iOS 8 brings a lot of new features to the Photos app. One of the biggest and most welcome additions is better control over editing and adjustments. Take a photo outside and think it's too bright? Or maybe there are shadows over part of the image that you don't think look quite right. Now iOS 8 can help you enhance images like never before with smart adjustments, and we can help you learn how to use them.
