What could Apple be planning with Rovi?

On Monday Fortune brought word that Apple had entered into a multiyear licensing deal with Rovi, which could cover everything from TV guides to DRM. But what could Apple want with this tech?

Gene Munster, of course, still thinks Apple will build their own TV. I still think that's a leftover rumor from when they were readying the 27" iMac. With a $99 Apple TV on the way, Apple doesn't have to worry about competing with Sony or Samsung in the lower-margin, high cost, premium TV market but can simply piggy back onto any existing panel in the living room.

DropBox 1.3 for iPhone, iPad now in App Store

DropBox for iPhone and iPad has just been updated to version 1.3 and you can get it now from the iTunes App Store. Like Apple's own iDisk, it lets you store files online and sync them locally as well. Unlike iDisk it's lightning fast, provides versioning (like Time Machine), and does a host of other great stuff as well. New features and fixes in 1.3 include:

iPhone 4 cases that fit your cables

Not all iPhone 4 cases are compatible with all iPhone 4 cables -- even Apple's bumper doesn't work with their own A/V cable! -- but there are several cases that work with a wide variety, including A/V, car kits, and chargers. Here are two of our favorites on the ultra-light side:

Netflix introducing video streaming service in Canada just in time for Apple TV debut

Netflix has made its very first foreign expansion by introducing their service of streaming video content into Canada. The service is now available and will cost you $7.99 per month.

This is great news for those of you in Canada as you will not be left out in the cold when Apple TV starts to ship (any day now). The company confirmed that not only will it support Apple TV but Apple's iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch will also be compatible with the streaming service in conjunction with the appropriate Netflix application.

'Army of Darkness' iPhone game in the works - "Groovy"

Evil Dead fans can finally breath a sigh of relief as you will soon be getting your first iOS game based off one of the popular cult classic movies staring the one and only Bruce Campbell. Army of Darkness will be brought to us by Backflip Studios and is promised to be worthy of the movie.

"A game developed by us in tandem with MGM Studios based on the cult classic ARMY OF DARKNESS movie will launch early in 2011 . . . deadites beware!"

The game is said to have all of the classic witty quotes and is hybrid castle/tower defense inspired as your main objective is to protect the Necrinomicon from the Deadites using chainsaws, boomsticks, etc... Sadly, Army of Darkness will not be introduced into the App Store until early 2011 but that gives you plenty of time to watch the film if you have not done so already!

iPhone: 3% market share vs. 39% profit share

iPhone has tiny market shall, monumental profit share according to Canaccord Genuity and IDC, and pretty much everyone else who's ever mentioned it. TiPb's been pointing this out for a long time of course, but boy does the above graphic make it visually apparent just what the difference is.

Analyst: 3 million Verizon iPhones being built in December?

3 million Verizon iPhones are being built in December for launch early in 2011, according to Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro. Now I'll preface this by saying I won't believe any more Verizon iPhone stories until I see one in Steve Jobs hand, but the amount of noise around this potential product launch is only growing.
