Steve Jobs was "Particularly Involved" in iPhone 3.0 Interface Design

The Wall Street Journal reports that while Steve Jobs remains home on leave of absence, with chief operating officer Tim Cook managing the day to day business, Jobs is still keeping active tabs on the greater strategic vision, including iPhone 3.0:

He regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month, these people say.

App Review: Flight Control for iPhone

App Review: Flight Control for iPhone

Flight Control Forum Review by cjvitek For more Forum Reviews, see the TiPb iPhone App Store Forum Review Index!

Ever want to be a flight controller? The most stressful job (so I hear) ever? Well, if you want the fun, but don't want the stress, Flight Control is the game for you.

With Flight Control, you play a flight controller who needs to guide planes in for a safe landing. You have two runways (red and yellow) and one helicopter pad (blue). As planes fly in, they are either red or yellow, indicating which runway they need to land on (helicopters can only land on the pad). Your job is to guide the planes to the appropriate runway while avoiding in-air collisions.

Sounds easy, right? Sure it is...when there are only one or two planes coming in at a time. But as time progresses, more and more planes enter the playing field, increasing the risk of close calls and collisions.

Attack of the iClones: No ZunePhone but... ZunePod touch HD?

Attack of the iClones: No ZunePhone but... ZunePod touch HD?

Personally, I still think Microsoft's only hope at this point is an XboxPhone, but what do I know, I don't run the largest, richest, most talent-laden software company in the world... that runs itself, and everything it produces, into the ground due to paralyzing politics and committee. So, excuse me if I'm nonplussed by the rumors of a new Zune HD, which while not an iPhone clone, or even an iPod classic or nano clone, looks to be positioned exactly opposite the iPod touch. A strategy which has proven so successful for Microsoft thus far...

Apple Store Finally Dumping WinCE-Inducing Payment Systems?

Apple Store Finally Dumping WinCE-Inducing Payment Systems?

Yeah. Apple Stores use what appear to be Soviet-era Windows CE handsets from Symbol to process credit card transactions on the floor. It's their secret shame. All that beautiful, elegant, perfectly balanced mobile technology in the iPhone and the iPod touch and their front-facing staff is stuck using devices straight out of 1960s garage sci-fi.

Well, the times they may finally be changing. Apple Insider reports that:

Bluetooth 3.0... in Time for iPhone 3.0?

iPhone 3G uses Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, but it seems like the folks behind the BT standard are ready to release the next big version, coincidentally sharing the same 3.0 version number as the next iPhone firmware update, coming this summer.

There's been no word on Apple adopting Bluetooth 3.0 for iPhone OS 3.0 or the next generation iPhone hardware expected to be previewed at WWDC in June, but according to BGR, it will be landing on April 21st and will enable:

RIM Steals Microsoft's Stolen Apple Designer to Create "New Experience" -- VistaBerry Cometh?

No, we're not talking about Bono. Sigh. We're talking about Don Lindsay, who was, according to Apple Insider:

Design Director of the Mac OS User Experience Group, he led what was called the "Mac OS X interface concept project" and directed the design team responsible for the user experience of Mac OS X 10.0 "Cheetah" through Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther," which included the company's first-generation of iLife digital lifestyle applications.

Apple Says Thanks a Billion - Reaches 1 Billion iPhone App Downloads

Back in January Rene made us all aware that the Apple App Store hit the half billion mark in terms of downloads. A few months later it seems like they will be doubling that number by hitting 1 billion app downloads. This is indeed impressive and Apple wants to celebrate with giving you a chance to win some really sweet prizes.

MobileMe Discontinues .Mac HomePage

MobileMe Discontinues .Mac HomePage

Before MobileMe there was .Mac, and before there was iWeb, there was .Mac HomePage. Well, good thing the latter has been replaced 'cause Apple is officially declaring them EOL (end of life) come July 7. After that date, whatever is there will remain there forever (or until Apple gets tired of it and yanks them down). So get with converting to iWeb or rolling yourself something custom.
