It looks as if iOS 5 may still be coming packed with the rumored Nuance VoiceOver technology even though it wasn't given an official mention during Monday's WWDC keynote.

If you look closely at the image above presented during the iOS 5 portion of the keynote, you'll notice a few interesting tidbits pertaining to iOS VoiceOver integration.

Daily tip: How to install a beta version of iOS via XCode or iTunes beta [Mac only]

<img src="/sites/imore.com/files/images/stories/2011/06/Screen-shot-2011-06-06-at-10.54.46-AM.png" alt="" title="Screen shot 2011-06-06 at 10.54.46 AM" width="365" height="250" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-64941"

Here is a tip for developers on how to install a beta for iOS using XCode or iTunes. One of the coolest things about being an iOS developer is being able to check out new versions of iOS before they're publicly released. With WWDC 2011 upon us, we should see a beta of iOS 5 soon. If you're a new developer, or you're testing for a current developer, you'll want to make sure you install beta firmware correctly. If you don't, this can lead to problems when upgrading to official or later versions of iOS.

As a forewarning, betas are only intended for developers and testers. Don't expect a beta to be flawless, expect the opposite. I also recommend installing betas on a test device when you can in case something goes wrong.

So if you're new to this process, hit the jump for a walkthrough of how to provision your device and install a beta version of iOS. And obviously, betas are Mac only.

David Ashman talks LockInfo post iOS 5 notifications

David Ashman is the developer behind LockInfo, the popular notification and lock screen information app for Jailbreak -- and he's just seen Apple add their own version of both those features to iOS 5. So how does he feel about that, and what does it mean for the future of LockInfo?

Check out the video above, shot at WWDC 2011 the day after the keynote to see what he says. (Spoiler: While Apple may fill the needs of casual users, LockInfo is going to make the pros very, very happy for a long time to come.)

iTunes 10.3 now available with beta iCloud support

With the iCloud unveiling yesterday, Apple also announced that a new version of iTunes and a beta version of iCloud would be available now (with the rest rolling out in the Fall). Users have been reporting iTunes 10.3 downloads becoming available over the past 24 hours. Now, it appears to be available for everyone.

Keep in mind only some iCloud services are available now (and they're still considered beta). The rest will be rolled out this Fall. You should already see changes to the App Store on your devices as those were rolled out wireless yesterday.

Poll: Will you still jailbreak post iOS 5?

Poll: Will you still jailbreak post iOS 5?

Will you still jailbreak post iOS 5?survey software

So will you still Jailbreak now that Apple has included notifications, lock screen info, and so many other features into iOS 5? Granted most of them don't do as much as their Jailbreak counterparts, but you aren't required to Jailbreak to use them either.

Are you a hardcore Jailbreaker and you're going to do it no matter what? Are you taking a more wait-and-see attitude? Or has Apple finally done enough to convert you from #TeamJailbreak to #TeamPure?

Vote in the poll up top and give me your reasons in the comments below!

iOS 5 contains references to new iPhone and iPad models

As with all new beta firmware, it appears there are references to new hardware in iOS 5. I expected there to be references to a 5th generation iPhone model but there are also placeholders for new iPad models as well. TUAW is reporting that they found references to not only two difference 5th generation iPhone models, but 2 different iPad models as well.

    iOS 5 beta gallery

    iOS 5 beta gallery

You're flooding us with screen shots of iOS 5 (sometimes without removing your personal info first -- please do that!), and we're going to keep adding them here. Here's some of what we're seeing:

    • iPod app is dead. Long live Music and Video apps. (More consistent with iPad, iPod touch.)
    • Tap and hold a lock screen notification icon, then slide to view it
    • If you hate the new style notifications, you can turn them off or switch back to the old popups
    • You can update more than one app at once
    • The square toggle sliders are round now
    • There's a "buy more storage" button in iCloud
    • There's a wireless iTunes sync setting
    • Calendar now has week view in landscape mode
    • Move Camera Roll photos to existing albums or create new ones
    • Add multiple Twitter accounts in Settings
    • Storage usage by app
    • On-device software updates
    • Open Safari links in background
    • SMS/iMessage are the same app, sends depending on what receiver can handle (AT&T/Verizon must hate that)

Photo gallery after the break, and we'll update if/when we're sent more.

[Thanks Ethan, Richard, K, and anonymous!]

iOS 5: What we didn't get

Now that the excitement has died down after the WWDC keynote, let’s consider what is missing from iOS 5. There has been a huge amount of speculation over the last few months about what to expect. This often leads to huge disappointment when the actual details are revealed. These are a few of the areas that are still lacking in iOS 5. Of course things could still change and get added into iOS 5 prior to its debut in the Fall.
