Dropbox to fold photo sharing app Loom into Carousel

Loom, the cloud storage and organization service and app for photos and videos, has been bought by Dropbox. Loom allowed you to quickly and easily share photos from your iPhone and Mac through the cloud, and was about to face some tough competition from Dropbox and their recently-announced Carousel app.

Carousel integrates with Dropbox's cloud storage and can automatically upload and organize your photos. While the terms of the deal weren't disclosed, Loom did announce that they are no longer accepting new users and will be shutting down their service in one month.

Angela Ahrendts taking her time moving to Apple

Angela Ahrendts, incoming SVP of Retail at Apple, seems to be taking her time leaving her current post as CEO of Burberry, and the company has yet to announce her departure date. Ahrendts is supposed to start this spring, and is available to leave Burberry starting this month, having finished her six-month notice term. But it appears that she will stay with the company a little longer, helping to ease the transition to her successor. She may also be staying while negotiating the terms of a possible £8 million in share bonuses from Burberry, according to The Guardian:

Evernote Business Notebook lets you share while keeping your personal notes private

Evernote has introduced a rather interesting new notebook in conjunction with Moleskine. Users can now capture digital images of notes written on custom-made paper notebooks and enjoy a wealth of extra features over your usual text recognition apps. The Evernote app recognizes notes you want to keep for your own personal reference in the cloud, others to share with colleagues, whether you want an item to be prioritized with a reminder, and where to file notes thanks to a selection of smart stickers. As always, text from uploaded notes is fully searchable.

Breeze, by the makers of RunKeeper, aims to keep you moving in style

There's a new motion tracking app in town, and it's from the developers of the highly popular RunKeeper app and service. Breeze, by FitnessTracker, utilizes the M7 motion coprocessor in the iPhone 5s to monitor your movement and provide you with updates and motivation throughout the day. That M7 data is constantly and consistently being tracked by iOS anyway, so you can install Breeze now for free and have a week's worth of data right off the bat.

Dynamic affordance: Can the iOS 8 interface be made smarter?

Dynamic affordance: Can the iOS 8 interface be made smarter?

Depending on who you are and how you feel, iOS 7 either took the training wheels off to fully embrace digital design, or it removed so much interface as to crush usability. Both are true. iOS is used by a wide range of people, from the digital and mobile immigrant — those who grew up reading newspapers or using PCs — to the digital and mobile native — those who were born to iPhone and iPad. One, single, static default choice can never properly meet the needs of everyone across that range. But what if iOS 8 could make affordance and accessibility dynamic?

Pixelmator previews impressive advanced image repair tool

An upcoming update to Mac photo editing app Pixelmator will include a rather impressive repair tool. With it, you’ll be able to remove entire objects simply by painting on them and letting the software do the rest. The same tool will be able to remove blemishes and dust with ease. A similar feature has existed in Adobe Photoshop for several years, but Pixelmator is generally much more user friendly and always significantly more affordable.

FarmVille 2: Country Escape is made for mobile, requires no friends

Following a fairly successful soft launch in Canada, Zynga’s FarmVille 2: Country Escape launches globally today on iOS and Android. The Facebook version has been out since 2012, though the new mobile version won’t require a social plug-in to bug your friends for resources. You can also play offline, which is a nice change of pace from these types of games. The usual freemium city-building tropes are here: gather resources, plant new crops, wait on timers, or speed them up through in-app purchases, and co-operate with friends.
