US App Store: 500,000 apps later

US App Store: 500,000 apps later

According to 148apps, the US App Store has unofficially seen over 500,000 apps line its shelves since it debuted in June 2008. Only 400,000 or so remain live on the App Store today, for a variety of reasons, but that's still an incredible number.

Let’s get geeky and take a look at some numbers. From that nearly three years of data we know that you’d need a 7.5 terabyte iPhone to hold all of the apps available at once on your device. I guess we have a new high end target for the storage limit of the iPhone 5. Oh, and it would cost you $891,982.24 to buy all of the apps.

Check out their amazing, and amazingly big, infographic after the break!

Steve Jobs to Keynote WWDC 2011... or not? [updated]

According to GigaOm, Apple has confirmed Steve Jobs will be giving the Keynote presentation at WWDC 2011, despite being on limited duty during his third medical leave. For the last 3 years, Apple has introduced new iPhone hardware (from the iPhone 3G to last year's iPhone 4 at WWDC, however, unofficial word is that there'll be no new iPhone until the fall this year. Since, also unlike previous years, there was no iOS preview event this spring, an iOS 5 announcement and probable beta release will likely be our high point. (There will no doubt also be Mac OS X Lion news as well.)

Possible picture of the iPhone 5 rear panel?

Hot on the heels of the obligatory iPhone 5 case leak, we now have a supposed picture of the back panel of the next iPhone with the same LED Flash placement on the opposite corner. The image is obviously unverified budoug does match up with both the recent case leak and some supposed next generation camera parts. Two holes are clearly visible, one for the camera on the left and one for the flash on the right.
