Apple Alters Policy on Water-Damaged iPhones

Cue the Jaws music... According to ifoAppleStore.com it seems Apple has recently changed their policy on water-damaged iPhones. Effective now, Apple will replace the iPhone you dropped in your toilet with a new or refurbished phone - guess that would depend on what kind of mood the Genius is in - for $199 without extending your contract for $199.

Microsoft iClones Apple App Store Restrictions?

Microsoft iClones Apple App Store Restrictions?

We love many things about the iPhone. Most things even. One of the few things we're not so chuffed about is the weird, wacky restrictions Apple places on App Store apps, and the sometimes haphazard way in which those restrictions are applied.

So, one edge we thought the other platforms might have would be the relative openness of their competing app stores. Turns out maybe not so much. How so? Our buddy Phil Nickinson over on WMExperts spent his weekend scouring through Microsoft's Windows Marketplace for Mobile restrictions, and at first blush they appear at least as crazy as Apple's:

iPhone 3.0: Swipe to Delete Contact Info

iPhone 3.0: Swipe to Delete Contact Info

Not sure if this is new to Beta 4, or if it appeared earlier in iPhone 3.0, but it's the first we've seen of it so we're passing it along. What is it exactly? Simply go to Contacts, pick a name, and then swipe to call up the red "Delete" button that we all know and love from Email and other, previous apps going all the way back to iPhone 1.x.

Nice way to speed up removing unwanted or outdated information. Thanks Apple!

(And thanks Adam for the tip!)

Updated: iPhone 3G Coming to Orange UK?

Updated: To address some of the comments, we edited out the URL field to protect the source, but it was not the public facing web address mentioned below. It was local intranet address. Of course, anything is fake-able, so we'll just have to wait and see if -- ever -- Apple and Orange UK make an announcement... or not.

Rumor: Apple to #Buy @Twitter?

Rumor: Apple to #Buy @Twitter?

Dieter rates this rumor at 10%. He may be generous. Never-the-less, noted Silicon spysite Valley Wag is reporting that:

A source who's plugged into the Valley's deal scene and has been recruited by Apple for a senior position says Apple and Twitter are in serious negotiations, with the goal of unveiling a deal by June 8, when Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference launches in San Jose.

Valleywag thinks Apple may want to uber-cool web savvy of the Twitter crew for their own. Dieter had another idea: what if they're looking to spice up a BlackBerry Messenger (MMB)-style service to compete with RIM?

Quick App: AT&T myWireless for iPhone

Today AT&T's very own application, myWireless, was released in the the App Store for all AT&T subscribers to download. myWireless [iTunes Link] is a crafty little app that lets iPhone users manage their AT&T accounts easily from the device itself. You can view your data and minutes usage, view and pay your bill, and you can even add and remove extra features like text messaging and early nights/weekends, all from the comfort of your very own iPhone.

Quick App: FileMaker's Bento for iPhone

FileMaker was gracious enough to provide TiPb with a walkthrough of their just-released Bento for iPhone and iPod touch ($4.99 - iTunes link). Coming as it does from a wholly-owned Apple subsidiary, Bento shows every bit as much polish as the built-in iPhone apps. Features include:

iTunes Connects Developers With Crash Logs

iTunes Connects Developers With Crash Logs

Ars Technica reports, with some very nice commentary and screen caps from Equivalence (iTunes link) for iPhone, that:

One of the most requested features from developers, automated crash reports, can now be submitted by users via iTunes 8.2. Developers can access the reports via iTunes Connect.

No code is ever perfect, but anything that helps developers make their apps more solid for more users is certainly appreciated.

iPhone 3.0: Predictive Text Enhanced?

Did iPhone 3.0 Beta 4 refresh the dictionary behind predictive text? Based on a few emails we've gotten it looks like Apple might just have altered -- hopefully expanded and improved -- the engine that tries to make multi-touch typing just automagically work.

Let us know if you've seen anything different in beta 4.

[Thanks Adam!]

Will Hulu Hurt Apple's iTunes Offerings?

Will Hulu Hurt Apple's iTunes Offerings?

Maybe, in that news of Disney joining up with Hulu to offer even more free, advertising supported television and movie content via the web, could reduce the amount of people in the US who choose to pay for that same content, ad-free for rental or purchase via iTunes. However, there are some other factors involved that Business Week isn't addressing:
