What Do You Want to See in MobileMe 2.0?

What Do You Want to See in MobileMe 2.0?

MobileMe was announced by Steve Jobs and demonstrated by Phil Schiller at WWDC 2008. Tagged originally as "Exchange for the rest of us", a disastrous launch -- where Apple tried to do too much at once, including the iPhone 3G, iPhone OS 2.0, and the App Store -- and a problem with early computer-side syncing forced them to downgrade the promise of "push" to more of a gentle "nudge".

Fast forward 6 months and MobileMe has grown through its pain becoming almost, though not quite, everything Apple promised it would be at WWDC. Web-based email, contacts, and calendar are synced in near-real time to and from the iPhone and the Mac (Windows mileage may vary). Photos function, and iDisk is beefier, but still functionally on par with its .Mac roots.

But what do the next 6 months hold? If we get new iPhone hardware in June, and iPhone OS 3.0 along with it, could Apple be ballsy enough to try and give us MobileMe Take 2 at the same time? And if they are, what do we want to see in it?

iTunes Crashing After iPhone 2.2.1 Update?

iTunes Crashing After iPhone 2.2.1 Update?

So today I had a bit of a scare. I went to sync my iPhone 3G with my Macbook and noticed when I'd plug in the phone it would say it is syncing while iTunes simply showed nothing -- no kind of response whatsoever. Yes, everything is up to date on my Macbook so that was not the problem. After a few reboots of the Macbook and iPhone the same behavior still continued like clockwork.

iTunes Update: Apple's Refunding Mistakes, Norway's Dropping its Case

iTunes Update: Apple's Refunding Mistakes, Norway's Dropping its Case

It's been an interesting road since Apple launched iTunes Plus, originally only offering DRM-free music for EMI and independent labels. Now everyone is on board -- or will be by the end of April -- and Apple has righted the wrong of requiring every track to be updated all at once. So what else is going on?

Seems like Apple accidentally charged some upgraders $9.99 to take their albums to iTunes Plus, but Macworld says Apple is making it right:

iPhone International: Orange Ousted, Arabia Impending

2008 has come and gone and Apple is still adding regions and carriers to their iPhone 3G rollout. This time it's the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia according to Macworld:

UAE-based provider Emirates Telecommunications—aka "Etisalat"—will be selling the iPhone and providing service to both countries "later this month." The deal was announced in an advertisement in an English-language paper in the region.

Lousy iPhone Reception? Want an AT&T Tower in Your House? Meet Femtocell!

Mike and Dieter discussed this newfangled tech being offered up by AT&T (and others) called Femtocell during the last Phone different podcast, and our sibling site, WMExperts has posted up the quick and dirty:

AT&T is joining the femtocell bandwagon with their 3G MicroCell. While pricing and availability aren't indicated on AT&T's site, we do know that it will cover up to 5,000 square feet, allow up to four simultaneous, secure voice or data connections, and will require a broadband connection to operate. It is also only compatible with 3G phones.

Quick App: Arcade Bowling

Quick App: Arcade Bowling

For only a $1.99, Arcade Bowling from Skyworks, found here in the App Store, may be the least expensive addictive substance around. Based on the old arcade classic, Skeeball, your objective is to roll the laser balls down the ramp, where they launch and fly through the air and into one of the holes in the board. The smaller, more difficult holes are valued higher, but never fear, the worst you can do per laser ball is 10 points.

Alex Evans, GroupWise Product Manager has announced in his blog that the ActiveSync protocol is coming to GroupWise in a future update. What does this new native support mean for iPhone users? Well, it means that you will be able to sync your GroupWise calendar and contacts to your iPhone via the Exchange conduit (located under Settings-->Mail-->Add Account). This is truly exciting. ActiveSync is quickly becoming the mobile sync standard for devices and businesses that do not have or cannot connect to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).
