Updated: iPhone Firmware 2.0.2 Download Error? (-3256)
UPDATE: Fourth time was the charm! Download finished quickly and update took under 10 minutes. What's in it so far? Commenter Sarah Healey, below, says support for the additional carriers coming on line this week, which we should have expected (thanks!), Craig Hockenberry on the Twitter says an iPod Touch/Xcode glitch was corrected for devs, and iLounge says "update all" is gone from the App Store. Oh, and, some 3G bugs might have been squashed...

Word from a merry tipster, whom we would trust with our lives (well, maybe the lives of our pets, we're not madmen), is that AT&T is informing the faithful:

Rumor: Jobs Fires Ex-Microsofty For MobileMe Fiasco?
Friend-of-a-friend-of-a-former-Apple-employee (no names!) has just fed an awfully convenient (and admittedly unsubstantiated) rumor to the mill: MobileMe was run by Rob Schoeben, VP of Applications Marketing (including Pro Apps, iWork, and iLife) at Apple, who was a former Microsoft executive and who brought in fellow former Microsofties as well. Blogger Chuq Von Rospach intimates that Schoeben's head may well now decorate, pike-top, Steve Jobs' figurative wall outside 1 Infinite Loop. In more realistic terms:

Review: Belkin Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger
Imagine this scenario: You’re in a hotel room and you bring your iPhone, Macbook, External Hard Drive, Camera, and another iPod cause you’re nasty..but they’re all in need of a charge. You run and send a search team for the nearest available outlet, to your utter dismay it only provides two outputs. You reason you can live without a couple of those items but then you can’t fit two clunky chargers at once. You’re left with just charging one device.
We’ve all run into hotel rooms that just don’t seem to have enough power outlets. With the Belkin Mini Surge Protector with USB that problem is pretty much solved. How does it perform?
Read on for the rest of the review!

State of the Apps: Frank on App Store Love/Hate
Panic makes killer Mac apps. I use Coda daily, and Cabal Sasser designs UI the way they're meant to be designed. Likewise, Steven Frank's recent blog post on the double-edged sword that is Apple's App Store is one of the best descriptions I've seen on the subject from a developers point of view:

Pwnage Ppdate, er Update.
We have an update from iphone-dev that falls in the good news / not-so-good news category. The not-so-good is that they're still hard at work on figuring out how to unlock the baseband radio, but there's no ETA on when or (here's the bad part) whether it's going to happen.

Blog vs. Blog: Thurrott/Dilger MobileMe Pundit-palooza!
What's better than a couple of well versed, well argued technologists presenting deeply reasoned and sharply insightful, fundamentally different but equally challenging, views on a critical topic? Well... nothing. They're just hard to find given the intertube collective's penchant for rewarding punditry and link baiting. Sometimes, however, we're lucky enough to find a mix of both knowledge and provocation.
Cases in point: here were have noted Windows Super-Siter, Paul Thurrott, and accomplished Roughly-Drafted Apple Insider Prince McLean each presenting their own unique, multi-part perspectives on MobileMe.
Ready for the blow-by-blow? Continued after the break!
