Verizon reveals details on iPhone Wi-Fi personal hotspot pricing

Verizon reveals details on iPhone Wi-Fi personal hotspot pricing

Verizon Wireless Executive Director of Corporate Communications Brenda Raney said today that Verizon would be charging customers $20 per month for the iPhone Wi-Fi personal hotspot feature. That's on top of their regular data plan.

The extra $20 buys you an additional 2gb of bandwidth for the hotspot to use. AT&T subscribers on the other hand currently pay the same $20 per month for a wired tethering plan, however they aren't allotted any additional bandwidth despite paying extra for the feature and it only allows for tethering one device via USB. The only major drawback with Verizon is you'll be paying an additional $20 per gigabyte in overages -- ouch!

Google adds weather 'widget' to search

When searching for weather on Google with your iPhone, you will now be greeted with a beautiful widget-like interface above your search results.

Google weather search displays the current weather conditions including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and chance for precipitation. Also, the forecast for the next four days is displayed and a slider to see the conditions predicted over the next 12 hours. As you slide the slider, not only are the conditions updated, but the background darkens or lightens to reflect the time of day. Underneath, you will find links to The Weather Channel, Weather Underground, and AccuWeather.

Deutsche Bank "no going back to BlackBerry" after iPhone, iPad trial

Deutsche Bank "no going back to BlackBerry" after iPhone, iPad trial

Following a pilot of iPhone and iPad, Deutsche Bank's Chris Whitmore says there is no going back to BlackBerry:

The result "was a fantastic experience as it was easier/faster to access data (touch UI) than on the Blackberry. It was also great to only have to carry one device for personal and corporate email access."

They're using Good for messaging so users complain about the lack of background email receipt, and they do miss the BlackBerry notification light but the positives "far outweigh these issues".

Apple reported over 80% of Fortune 100 were piloting or deploying iPad, an unheard of adoption rate for new technology.

Verizon confirms $30 unlimited iPhone data plan -- for now

The Verizon iPhone will -- for now -- have an unlimited $30 data plan option according to what Verizon COO Lowell McAdam told the Wall Street Journal:

“I’m not going to shoot myself in the foot,” he said. Not offering an unlimited plan would put up a barrier for customers who might otherwise switch from AT&T, he said. The country’s No. 2 carrier still has millions of subscribers grandfathered into unlimited plans they signed up for before AT&T switched to tiered pricing last summer.

TiPb TV 14: iPad 2 rumor boogaloo

The iPad 2 is almost certainly coming this spring and the rumors just won't stop! Will it or won't it have a Retina Display, will there be a Verizon model or a combo model, will it have a bunch of new ports? And most importantly -- will it be smaller and lighter with less bezel?! Those are the questions we're getting asked the most often these days and they're the topic for today's episode of TiPb TV!

We cover the pros of staying 1x with 1024x768, going for it at 2x with 2048x1536 and the cons of trying to do anything in between. We wonder if that new Qualcomm GSM/CDMA chipset could join a super sweet Apple A5 processor inside iPad 2. We talk about Apple taking their Camera Kit and VGA adapter and whether they'd ever really build them into SD card, USB and MiniDisplay ports that some users may just never use.

And then I tell Rene he's wrong about there being no changes coming to the iPad bezel. (Apple better back me up on that!)

Check out the video above and then let us know what you want from Apple in iPad 2 -- and what you absolutely don't want!

Microsoft planning attack on iPad

Microsoft has started it's war against Apple's iPad, handing their reseller partners material to show their customers pointing why the iPad is not the solution they should be using for their enterprise needs. Distributed starting around December of last year, the material lists reasons why people should either move away from the iPad for enterprise needs or why they should not go towards the iPad in the first place.
