Don't want to use your credit card in iTunes? Use a gift card instead!

Want to buy from iTunes but don't want to use your credit card? No problem. Just head on over to a pharmacy, supermarket, big box, or any of the myriad of places that sell iTunes gift cards, buy one for yourself, and use it to top off your account. (Extra tip: Costco sometimes has packages for a few dollars off, like $50 worth of cards for $45).

The tip comes by way Ian Ross and Shelby Lee Engels, who shared it with Apple's iTunes team.

Star Trek production artists talk iPad

Star Trek production artists talk iPad

Ars Technica's Chris Foresman has a terrific interview up with Star Trek production artists Michael Okuda, Denise Okuda, and Doug Drexler about how they conceptualized iPad-like devices for TV and movies... some 23 years ago. Their device was known as the PADD (Personal Access Display Devices):

Drexler said that to him, the iPad is "eerily similar" to the PADDs used in Star Trek. "We always felt that the classic Okuda T-bar graphic was malleable, and that you could stretch and rearrange it to suit your task, just like the iPad," he said. "The PADD never had a keyboard as part of its casing, just like the iPad. Its geometry is almost exactly the same—the corner radius, the thickness, and overall rectangular shape."

"It's uncanny to have a PADD that really works," Drexler said, unlike the non-functional props made for the TV series and later films. "The iPad is the true Star Trek dream," Drexler told Ars.

Sony Ericsson prepping Android 3.0 PlayStation Phone to take on iOS gaming?

Sony Ericsson prepping Android 3.0 PlayStation Phone to take on iOS gaming?

Engadget has it from a reliable source that there's a device being prepared by Sony Ericsson that will look like a cross between a Samsung Captivate and PSP Go, run Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" and, enjoy PS titles like God of War.

If it pans out, if they nail the hardware and software, it will be a serious competitor to iPhone and iOS in the mobile gaming space. If Sony can work a little Apple-style magic and get it integrated with the PS3, it could be flat out awesome.

Why won't my iPhone or iPad case work with this cable?

Why won't my iPhone or iPad case work with this cable?

Why won't my iPhone or iPad case work with this cable? is one of the questions we're being asked a lot lately. A naked iPhone can pretty much fit any sync, charge, or media cable you connect it with at home, at work, or on the go. When you start introducing some types of cases, however, and add in different kinds of cables -- all bets are off.

ITV getting ready to sue Apple over rumored name change?

ITV getting ready to sue Apple over rumored name change?

There's a rumor -- repeat, rumor -- going around that Apple will switch the Apple TV to iOS and rename it iTV, and that seems to be enough to get British broadcaster ITV all dressed and wigged up in litigation clothes.

"You only have to look at recent problems with the iPhone 4 to see not everything Apple produces is gold dust. We all take our ITV brand very seriously and we'll do everything in our power to protect it."

Ouch. Meow.

Apple for their part is staying mum:

"Apple does not comment on rumours and speculation."

id Software's Rage running on a iPhone 4 at 60 FPS

id Software's Rage running on a iPhone 4 at 60 FPS

During QuakeCon 2010, ID Software's co-founder John Carmack demoed Rage on a iPhone 4 running at a very impressive 60 frames-per-second. And what's maybe even more impressive is the fact that Carmack believes this game will "kill anything done on the Xbox or PlayStation 2." We first heard of Rage coming to the iPhone and iPad back in March so it's good to see that this is finally going to happen and sooner rather than later.

Any first-person-shooter fan out there should definitely be chomping at the bit to see this one land into the App Store "later this year". And if one title is not enough, perhaps the planned sequel that will be available just in time for the 2011 launch of the PC version will make you happy.

Check out the most impressive video after the break!

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
