Facebook 3.1 with Push Notifications for iPhone Now Available

Facebook for iPhone just received an update that contains one of the most sought after missing features, push notifications. It has been a long time coming as most of us hoped for this feature when Facebook 3.0 was released. The only other difference noted in 3.1 is very Android-like, the ability to sync your friends with your address book.

Now all we need is for Apple to step up to the plate with iPhone 4.0 and give us a better to handle our notifications. At least we can all dream right?

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Microsoft's Ballmer to Try and Pre-empt Apple, Introduce HP Tablet Tonight?

UPDATE: According to WMExperts liveblog, it was a Tablet PC by HP running Windows 7 and called -- wait for it -- the Slate. Yes, named after Apple's latest tablet name rumor. Looks chunky, and its using a desktop OS. Okay.

ORIGINAL: So the rumor is Steve is about to introduce a new tablet device -- no, not Steve Jobs of Apple, but his nemesis Steve Ballmer of Microsoft -- and he's rumored to be doing it tonight at CES!

iPhone Review from Android Central's Casey -- Smartphone Round Robin

iPhone Review from Android Central's Casey -- Smartphone Round Robin

A long time ago on a blog far, far away, Casey Chan wrote about the iPhone. Then there was a great disturbance in the 'sphere and he ended up editing Android Central and embracing the dark side of the G1. Easily, seductively, his powers grew with the Hero and now the insidious DROID itself. But a new hope emerged in the form of the 2009 Smartphone Round Robin, which forced him to put down the evil red eye of Google and pick up the brightly sided iPhone 3GS. Did he restore balance to his mellow?

Potential iPhone Gen 4 ARM Cortex A9 Multicore Processor Demo

Potential iPhone Gen 4 ARM Cortex A9 Multicore Processor Demo

ARM is showing off their new Cortex A9 multi-core mobile processor, which will scale over 2Ghz at less than 0.25W of power per proc -- and since Apple is rumored to be a massive ARM licensee and Apple staff were hinting that developers should prepare themselves for multi-core, rumors once again resurface that this smoking hot chip might become part of the 4th generation iPhone and iPod touch. (As part of PA Semi system-on-a-chip, 'natch).

The current iPhone 3GS and iPod touch G3, as well as a bunch of competing smartphones (and superphones, don't get us started!) use the ARM Cortex A8. MacRumors is guessing it might just make its way into the iTablet/iSlate as well.

CES is ramping up folks, and remember TiPb will be there, so we'll bring you back anything more we can find out.

AT&T Announces Completion of HSPA 7.2 3G Upgrade

Looks like AT&T put the HSPA 7.2 3G peddle to the metal so T-Mobile wouldn't grab all the nation-wide upgrade headlines today.

3D Multitouch Interface for iTablet and/or iPhone 4.0? Apple Patent Regurgitation!

The Baltimore Sun has regurgitated a recent Apple patent filing for a 3D, multitouch, zooming user interface. So the speculation jumps immediately to iTablet/iSlate and iPhone 4.0? Is this the "surprising interaction method" we'd heard rumored? Or just another in a long list of patents Apple may or may not ever get around to implementing in a real device? Place your bets in the comments!

Link4 Online for iPhone -- Connecting Fun, Just Don't Type "Grapes!"

Link4 Online for iPhone -- Connecting Fun, Just Don't Type "Grapes!"

I have been playing the iPhone game Link4 Online [Free - iTunes Link or $2.99 - iTunes Link], which is a "connect 4" type game by PlayMesh. I love Link4 and have spent many a long night challenging other players to the game. Link 4 also has a chat room and if you have ever been in a chat room you know that a lot of nefarious things can happen. To keep the discussions as clean as possible, PlayMesh has evoked an auto-banning system. Now certain words (that will not be mentioned here so as not to get my editor's wrath) are sure to get you banned. However, what has been happening in Link4 is interesting.

Waiting on players, I would sit in the chat room and after a time I noticed that many people were asking about how wine was made and where raisins came from from. I also noticed a lot of people were being banned, for 24 to 316 hours of play.
