XGear Shield Case for iPad – accessory review

XGear Shield Case for iPad – accessory review

If you’re looking for a sturdy and transparent skin, the XGear Shield case for iPad for $29.95 may be the case for you.

The XGear Shield is made from dual-compound materials that creates a shock absorbing bumper on the edges. Translation: it has thick edges that fit securely to the iPad that can reduce damage to the corners if bumped. Though not completely transparent, XGear Shield has more of a frosted backing that and not only looks good but totally protects the back and sides of iPad and gives you complete piece of mind from scratches.

There are two things that I really like about this case. The first is how secure it is. There are some cases that fit, but the edges and corners are loose. While this may make for easy removal, I fear it can get caught on something and slip off of the iPad. This is not the case with the XGear Shield. The edges are actually a challenge to put on and remove so you know the case isn't going anywhere. On the downside, it doesn't allow for docking with the iPad dock. All of the openings are there, but the power button has given me some challenges. Turning on is easy though by tapping the home button instead.

CNBC talks to AT&T CEO regarding iPad adoption and network quality improvements

CNBC talks to AT&T CEO regarding iPad adoption and network quality improvements

Today AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson spoke with CNBC in a lengthy interview. Discussed first was the relationship AT&T has with Apple and how the iPad is doing in the business sector.

"I think this is going to be really a significant product for enterprise. You think about, you know, our objective is just to mobilize everything. Whether it's in the home or the workplace, this is a device that really lets you think differently about mobilizing all of the applications that you see in business. And we're getting a strong interest from our large business customers on bringing this device into their environments, and whether it's working with the salesforce, whether it's order takers, any number of areas, are really excited about bringing this device in."

Skipping near the end of the interview Stephenson touches on AT&T's network improvements - mainly in New York.

"The uptake and the demand was dramatic, and there are particular markets like New York. The demand was really impressive, and it had an effect on voice quality. We have been going hard at the voice quality issue in New York, and made tremendous progress. And so, we're getting to a point where voice quality is getting to where it should be, and mobile broadband is the fastest in the nation. as measured by any number of independent people."

So how about it New Yorkers, has the quality of your service increased or are you still stuck with dropped call after dropped call? Sound off in the comments below!

It's too bad nobody brought up the question about the iPhone 4 launch issues that are still continuing as of right now. To be fair to AT&T though, Sprints whole system was shut down from the EVO launch for a few hours. How many EVO's were sold on launch? Now compare that to the amount of iPhone 4 pre-orders were happening today (presumably a much higher number).

Apple needs to get on more than one network in the US.

Apple posts FAQ on SIM-free (unlocked) international iPhones

Apple posts FAQ on SIM-free (unlocked) international iPhones

Apple has posted an FAQ (frequently asked questions) page concerning the new SIM-free (i.e. unlocked) iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 they're selling for the first time in international Apple Store like UK, France, and Canada.

Bottom line? They're really, truly, 100% unlocked and will work on any GSM carrier for which you have a miniSIM (iPhone 3GS) or microSIM (iPhone 4). You'll pay full price for them, of course, but for those who absolutely don't want a contract, or for frequent international travelers, this is huge.

(Note: No T-Mobile US 3G. Sorry folks, even though iPhone 4 is pentaband, T-Mobile's 3G band isn't supported. It hurts. Sorry).

Here's the cover:

Buy your iPhone from Apple commitment-free.

It works with the carrier of your choice. Buy your iPhone from the Apple Online Store and choose your own GSM carrier. You can change carriers at any time.

It’s easy to set up. Get a compatible SIM (iPhone 3GS) or micro-SIM card (iPhone 4) and select a plan from the carrier of your choice. Then insert the card and set up your iPhone using iTunes on your Mac or PC. With a few clicks, you can start making calls.

It works internationally. Because this iPhone is commitment-free, you can purchase a micro-SIM or SIM card and service from a local carrier at your destination. Or check with your home carrier regarding international roaming charges.

So did you pre-order or reserve an iPhone 4 today? Are you going to?

301

So did you pre-order or reserve an iPhone 4 today? Are you going to?

So did you pre-order or reserve an iPhone 4 today? Are you going to? Sure, it looks like AT&T can't handle the onslaught of would-be iPhone 4 pre-order and reservations that came crashing down on them, and their servers, this morning. And the Apple Online Store has gone up and down so much it may need a gyro soon. But we have to hope at least some of you have gotten your order confirmations and are the proud soon-to-be owners of a new iPhone 4? (Black, of course, since White ain't coming until later this summer).

Let us know how you're doing in the poll after the break, and feel free to expand (and vent!) in the comments below!

Apple Store app for iPhone now in App Store

Apple Store app for iPhone now in App Store

Looks like Apple has finally released an Apple Store mobile application for the iPhone.  I would have thought we'd see this a lot sooner but we all know Apple.  Looks like you can not only browse the store, but search for Apple Stores close to you and even make appointments with the Genius Bar.

As of now, it's only showing up in the US app store, so those of you in other countries, feel free to let us know when you see it show up in yours.  Given iPhone 4 pre-order madness is upon us, I can't access the Apple Store to test it so if it gives you problems just wait a while and try again when the the pre-order insanity dies down.

Jump to the break to see some basic screenshots, and I'll add more once the Apple Online Store is up and running again.
