Dev-Team releasing Redsn0w and PwnageTool iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak tonight!
The Dev-Team will be releasing the official tools for an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak tonight. Both Redsn0w and PwnageTool will be available within the next 24 hours and will support all iOS devices including the iPhone 4 and latest generation iPod touch, but will not yet be compatible with the iPad 2.
Over the weekend the Dev-Team let the world know that if #sundayisfunday started trending on Twitter they'd release an untethered jailbreak shortly after. It has since been confirmed that they're planning to release the official tools at GMT-8, which should translate for us in the US and Canada to the following times:
- 12AM Pacific
- 1AM Mountain
- 2AM Central
- 3AM Eastern
It's been a long time coming, but it looks like we'll finally be able to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 without needing to tether to a PC or Mac each time a reboot is required. We're not sure when a jailbreak will be out for the iPad 2, but we've heard rumblings of something in the works from Comex. The Dev-Team may hold out on an iPad 2 jailbreak to make sure Apple doesn't patch hardware vulnerabilities with the iPhone 5, but with rumors that we won't see the iPhone 5 in June this year they may end up releasing a tool sooner rather than later.

Can't wait. Had to exchange my original iP4 due to a glass separation issue last week. The new one did come with 4.2.1 on it but it seemed off ( as many iphones out of box do) but I had no shsh's on file so I couldn't do a clean restore and jailbroken what seems to a be a buggy ip4. Hope a clean restore fixes the bugginess otherwise another hour trip to the apple store will be in order.
Oooohhh, and I hope they don't sit on a iPad 2 jailbreak. It's killing me to be stock!

i am on 4.1 jailbroken and have no problems with my phone. unless im wrong updating to 4.3 will do nothing for me. the only advantage would be airplay but i dont have apple tv so nothing major to want. i dont feel like re installing all my jailbroken apps either. i probably wont update till iphone 5 unless somebody can tell me why 4.3 is so much better. so i will be checking back to see if anyone can tell me what the big difference is from 4.1 to 4.3
Mark I'm also on 4.1 and haven't noticed anything really making me want to upgrade to 4.3.1 but I'm going to do it just to stay current but I'd also like to hear other people's inputs too.
There are quite a few apps out there that do not work with 4.1. Just off the top of my head, iMovie.. Need the latest. If you can live without the specific apps that need it. I wouldn't update either
Yeah same here. I'll be upgrading/jailbreak/unlock only for DJay app. I still don't understand why some dev don't think before putting stupid requirements ....

Why do you guys keep associating jailbreaking with pirating? The image with the iphone as a pirate is inappropriate.

It's a fair point that you make. I've been jail breaking for some time, but I don't have a single pirated app. I just buy them...just because. I'm not judging or condoning those who do pirate when I say that I would rather we not all be painted (tarred?) with the same brush.

I appreciate Dev-Team's efforts but this is very childish. Software development is meant to be professional; although they ask for nothing in return, they should keep this in mind.
Which is why the Dev-Team takes great care to make sure their jailbreaks are legal and do not violate copyright. Sounds professional to me...
Cool - now they can release the Verizon iOS 4.3.whatever :)
i wonder how many versions will be released before it is "stable" ... that's the good thing about being jailbroken already on 4.2.1, having the luxury of waiting and letting others be the testers

Quick question, does 'untethered' just mean you don't need to connect to a computer everytime a reboot is performed or does it also mean you can use any sim card/carrier with the device? I'm using my UK iPhone but living in Canada so need it to support foreign sim cards. Thanks!
if you have a locked phone and your baseband version is 3.10 then you can't unlock your phone to use different sim cards...yet.
think about it this way: all unlocked phones are jailbroken, but not all jailbroken iphones are unlocked.
im waiting for the unlock impatiently! i don't know why it's taking so long!

I'm on 4.1 limera1n, it's been faultless but can't wait to update... am starting to witness more and more apps relying on newer firmware.
Sorry but no, the update for the ultrasn0w only fixes the 4.3.1 compatibility, tha basebands it unlocks remains unchanged :-(
There's one very good reason to upgrade to 4.3.1 and that's Personal Hotspot. Possibly depends on your carrier and country of course. Time to rejoin the JB world now for me.

You still need to plug your phone into the computer to run the software. Untethered means once the jailbreak is complete you will not need to jailbreak again every time your phone gets reset or turned off.
You're probably thinking of "userland" - that's the type of jailbreak where you navigate the phone browser to a particular URL to jailbreak.
BTW, anyone know if the term userland comes from URL? As in UseRLand?

What exactly is Pwnage Tool for Mac for? And do I need it if I decide to jailbreak on a Windows computer? I previously jailbroke with Greenpois0n on my Mac. But I may have messed something up because my Mac would refuse to restore ANY of my iDevices. So I was thinking it might be better to use a Windows machine rather than my Mac.
