Live from Mobile World Congress with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg! [Noon EST Feb. 24]

And yet another Monday liveblog from Mobile World Congress where Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to give a keynote address on, well, whatever he wants. Zuckerberg's actually a fairly compelling speaker, and this should be a good one.

What to expect? Probably not any new Facebook phone announcements, folks. Instead, look broader topics that have to do with the Internet, social connectivity and the world in general.

We're liveblogging this one starting at 6 p.m. CET — that's noon in New York and 9 a.m. on the West Coast. Join us!

Facebook will no longer change your privacy settings after you die, but will make you a Look Back video

The advent of social media profiles has created an interesting problem, from a philosophical perspective: what happens to your profile after you die? Originally they would just go dormant unless somebody had your password, but then Facebook updated their policy to place the profiles of our dearly departed into a "memorial" mode where visibility was restricted to only friends. But starting today, Facebook is changing that.

Best WhatsApp alternatives for Facebook haters

Let's be clear — if you used WhatsApp today, very little will change today and likely tomorrow. According to WhatsApp's statement, not only will they stay an independent app, they'll stay an autonomous business unit. So, like Instagram, we may see some integration, even account sharing, WhatsApp won't become Facebook Messenger or vice versa, at least not any time soon. If, however, you absolutely can't stand even the idea of Facebook owning your instant messenger (IM) app, then there are some alternatives. So, if you're determined to ditch WhatsApp, where should you go? Here are our top 5 favorites!

Facebook’s WhatsApp acquisition a bold move for the global instant messaging gold medal

The news of Facebook acquiring WhatsApp for an enormous pile of money is front and center in the mobile communication industry today, and for good reason. Having watched WhatsApp grow from nothing into a cross platform winner over the last 5 years and doing a darn good job of executing on a growth plan, I'm impressed with what they've done. And while I was shocked to see the deal's valuation, I've taken some time to think about it rationally, and it might not be that insane.

Facebook Lookback highlights your first and most liked moments in social — here's mine, what are yours?

I joined Facebook 6 years ago and the first photos I uploaded were of a string of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments and seminars I attended that year. My most liked posts were the ones congratulating my mother on her retirement from school teaching last year, the remembrance for my maternal grandmother who passed away last November, and my photo of the view from the airport hotel in San Francisco where I spent a morning blogging on the bay. I've shared photos of parties, iPhone lineups, filming on rooftops in New York, shooting CESlive in Las Vegas, and for it all, Facebook has given me a giant unicode thumbs up. That's my Facebook Lookback, the video montage they're offering in celebration of Facebook's 10th anniversary. What's yours?
