Facebook app crashing for some users

My Twitter stream is being swamped by people claiming the iOS Facebook app is crashing for them today. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the recent iOS 6.0.1 or iOS 6.1 beta 1 firmwares either, and people who haven't gone near either of those are reporting the problem. It also doesn't seem to be a problem for everyone, as other people are saying they're just fine.

Facebook testing "Want" button, as in they want to better monetize their platform

Facebook already has a "like" feature that lets its billion members express their endorsement for everything from a status update to a photo to web article to an App Store app, but now Facebook is testing turning "like" into "want". Called "Collections", it sounds like it would function as a wish-list, perhaps in the Amazon or GDGT fashion, but with partner retailers in a way that could eventually see Facebook entering the massive e-commerce market.

It's not about HTML5 or skeuomorphism, it's about usability

There were a couple of interesting comments on user interface today, one coming from Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, who acknowledged they bet wrong on HTML5, and the other from unnamed sources who suggest Apple is deeply split along Scot Forstall vs Jonathan Ive lines when it comes to skeuomorphic vs more digitally authentic design.

iOS 6 preview: Siri shares to Facebook and Twitter, launches apps for everyone

Siri was a bit of a tease on iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S -- while it could send Messages and Mails, it couldn't send status updates to Twitter or Facebook, and it couldn't even open an app. With iOS 6, however, Siri is not only launching on the iPad, but it's launching you into any app on your device, and posting tweets and updates like a social champ.

Facebook adds "Find Friends Nearby"

For those for whom Facebook pretty much is the internet, and sharing location with friends is more positive than negative, the social network's new Find Friends Nearby feature is sure to be an impromptu party hit.

TechCrunch got the early word on it, and Facebook engineer Ryan Patterson gave them the background.

I built Find Friends Nearby with another engineer for a hackathon project. While it was originally called ‘Friendshake’, we settled on ‘Find Friends Nearby’ for launch (the URL was a little bit of a homage to the previous iteration).
