Instagram comes to Windows Phone, brings some great photographers along with it

Get ready to see Windows Phone in your Instagram!

Instagram was originally iPhone-only, but eventually expanded to Android. Now, Instagram (beta) has landed on Windows Phone as well. That means not only will there be even more great photos to enjoy, but even more great photographers to enjoy the from. Sure, there have been unofficial Instragram apps on the platform for a while, there's nothing like an official one to really drive adoption. Daniel Rubino for Windows Phone Central:

Announced a few weeks ago in Abu Dhabi during Nokia World, Instagram for Windows Phone has been one of the most coveted and sought after applications for the rapidly growing platform. Constantly cited as the one big “missing apps” for consumers (and being one of the searched for in the Store), Instagram’s arrival has come at an opportune time, seeing as Windows Phone is gaining market share fervently these days.

I have a Nokia Lumia 1020, with that giant Carl Zeiss face-hugger of a camera on back, and I for one can't wait to see all the big, beautiful 41 megapixel optically stabilized PureView photos being crammed into a tiny Instagram stamps. I kid. It'll be awesome. And if you have any doubts, just check out Daniel Rubino shots. More of that, please.

Anyone else happy to see Instagram expanding its horizons?

I'd like to see the Windows phone market thrive. Competition can only make iOS better.

I'm not happy. I loved the app when it was iPhone only. Instead of investing in WP, they should make an iPad app, it's long overdue.

Because tablets are more important for taking photos and uploading than a phone?

zdn1042 says:

I understand what you're saying but it would be easier to browse for pictures using a tablet.

I have the IG app on my Android tablet. Only worth while for uploading pictures taken with another device. Glad they opted to go onto another phone platform instead.

Rene, did you lose a bet to Daniel to post this? ;)

It's a nice update and jump to the Nokia but I feel like it's not fair... I want to take some awesome pictures with my iPhone but the Nokia's pictures are so awesome -.-

It is a great news for windows phone. Many people buy phones based on the apps and its ecosystem. Windows phone has a great potential and now with Instagram and Waze and more apps coming. It is really good to see WP community grow. I had bought a Lumia 800 on its launch day and for more than 2 years i was defending it with the features and future apps that will come. Now i'm really happy to see such a progress. Windows Phone is my first Love and iPhone is my True Love :D

I don't own a windows phone but I like that Instagram is available for windows users. I personally like it because I get to see more images from more people. I'm a photographer so the more the merrier. I also agree with others as far as competition. Competition makes others better.

Now, I'm feeling sad for BlackBerry. Not fair. I know they have the option to side load but its just not the same as getting an official one. I hope the devs have change their mind and a BB release would be next in development. Spread some more love!

Are there people actually mad that they make an app for windows phone ... you know even as i type it's occurring to me that yeah there probably are people that think like that.

Apparently NinoArt (above) is upset. Meh.

Feel bad for everyone on the Windows Phone platform. BGR just posted a sad state article about their app marketplace.

BGR is on a personal mission against MS. It is the one site that truly has a major bias..

I don't like the WP8 Instagram design. It looks outdated, and not very appealing IMO. It's still cool to see it on there.

If windows phone wasn't so behind in features, I would really consider one. The tile OS is sexy and dat camera tho. All these new apps that are filling the ecosystem up is a good sign. I still love my iPhone, but I hope windows does something good.

Sure Instagram has to come to WP, since all Lumias' cameras are awesome (even for the cheap 520)

Justin Thiel says:

Windows? Ehh on that, but I do like that my friends who have windows phones can now participate in the Instagram universe officially with the rest of us.

Instagram is getting BIG. Too bad it went downhill when they started adding android users and now windows lol. We'll see how it goes.

Great to finally see it - I'm sure all the die-hards were using 6Tag, but it was really important for WP to have the official version for the general public. And the more good photos the better!
