Tiffen has announced the availability of its new Steadicam Curve for GoPro HERO cameras at CES 2014. It’s now available for $99.95 USD. Designed for action-packed, one-handed GoPro HERO camera shoots, the Steadicam Curve weighs just a half-pound. With its portability, you can create some really interesting action shots.
The Steadicam CURVE lets GoPro HERO users shoot shake-free video using Steadicam’s stabilization technology. It gives your viewers that feeling of floating along with you. The Curve can also be used as a simple handgrip when you lock the camera to the frame.
To get started, you need to slide the GoPro with buckle onto the mount slide and make sure it’s facing in the right direction. Since the stabilizer has been built specifically for GoPro cameras, setup is easier than other stabilizers targeted for various devices. There are adjustment knobs to balance the GoPro camera. Turn the knob on top to move the camera front to back, and twist the weight at the bottom to adjust it left to right. It supports the GoPro Hero HD, Hero 2, and Hero 3 with GoPro LCD in the BacPac compatible housing.
It took a while for us to balance the Steadicam Curve for the first time, but we think it can be much faster after more practice.
If you’re interested in using a stabilizer for your smartphones, Tiffen also produces the Steadicam Smothee. Unlike the Curve, the Steadicam Smoothee lets you switch between different devices. The downside is that it is larger in size compared to the Curve.
Heavier cameras like camcorders and DSLRs require bigger stabilizers. Steadicam makes stabilizers for those devices too, but expect to spend a lot more money.
The Steadicam Curve comes in five colors. You can buy it now for $99.95 USD in black, blue, silver, purple, or red. Are you picking one up? Let us know in the comments!
