iMame brings retro arcade gaming to the App Store

iMame has just appeared in the App Store, it is a hugely popular app on other platforms as it is an emulator for retro arcade cabinet games from the early 1980’s. The official version comes with a set of seven games pre-installed with no official way to add any more games.

iMAME is an application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software on modern personal computers and other platforms. The intention is to preserve gaming history by preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten.

The included games are:-

  • Circus
  • Crash
  • Fire One
  • Hard Hat
  • Robot Bowl
  • Side Track
  • Spectar
  • Star Fire
  • Targ

Not the most interesting set of games however keep in mind that iMame is a free app. Where this could get really interesting is if there is a way to add game ROM files to iMame; you could then be playing games like Pac Man, Galaxians etc. According to TouchArcade, there already is a way to do it; however we have yet to test it.

If it is easy to add other game ROMS without the need to jailbreak, the app will probably have a short life in the App Store. We recommend you grab this one as soon as you can. iMame is a universal app and also includes support for the iCade.

Yep, Grab it NOW.
ROM side loading works in the exact same way as it did with iDOS(for PC games).
Finally, my iCade can be put to real use, without jail breaking.
Seth and Georgia should be all over this one!

felface says:

How do you put roms into the game where do you get roms when i had a jailbroken iphone i had a gamebpy emulator and pokemon on it how do you do it without jailbreaking

Abe Walker says:

The roms is the harder thing. Most I have found do not work. I think they have to be from Romset 37b5. All you do is download iexplorer to your computer and install it. Connect your iphone and it shows you a directory with your apps just go to imame, documents and past the rom there. Finding 37b5 roms is the hard part for me atleast

Abe Walker says:

Almost forgot you do not have to be JailBroken to do this.

Reddata says:

Correct. They need to be specifically the sets that work with 37b5. Nearly all of them work quite well.

stephen007 says:

Wiser says:

What are you stating, man? I know everyones got their own view, but really? Listen, your web site is cool. I like the hard work you put into it, specifically with the vids and the pics. But, come on. Theres gotta be a better way to say this, a way that doesnt make it seem like everyone here is stupid!

This might not be the most beneficial place to request this, but I am trying to find a pest management provider within the pittsburgh region and have no method to find out who is the very best. I found this company that is really close to me and wanted to see if anybody has any reviews on them. Spectrum Pest Control, 3058 West Liberty Avenue, Dormont, PA 15216 - (412) 446-2802
